Can you tell me if my card is affected by the thermal issues?
Kind Regards
Your Answer:
Hello,
We looked up the serial number for your particular card. It is not effected. The cards have been modified with additional cooling elements and yours had those elements pre-installed when it shipped.

ACX 3.0 they where reported that they catching fire !!!!! google it ....... they should be recalled
All of the cards being manufactured by evga should have that particular issue fixed by now but that doesn't rule out old stock still floating around that might have the same problem. The good thing is evga are one of the best companies when it comes to aftercare and customer service

Yawn, with the amount of safety features on GPUs these days it's extremely unlikely any of them would catch fire, would probably throttle back and shut down long before any chance of it catching fire. Probably like the whole "My PS4 Pro Melted" debacle some time ago all coming from one very suspect looking photo and zero evidence....

Any decent external graphic enclosures announced at CES yet? Really would enjoy pairing something like this with my laptop

Is this card/brand okay (reliable) or should wait for another 1070 deal? (Was looking for a GPU for a long time now. Wanted to get MSI or Zotac or ASUS but this looks decent price.)

EVGA are one of the best GPU manufacturers, this price almost seems like a mistake to me, this card is £400+ usually.
It's £407.93 at Ebuyer and that is apparently on offer with £77 off
I have a Gigabyte 1070 and run most games in 5760x1080 on three screens, I run 60FPS solid in BF1 on ultra so yea, very good card!

In my opinion, EVGA are the best. But if your card were to break, their RMA process is excellent.

Always had EVGA and wouldnt consider a different brand for gpus or psu. Currently using a 1060sc and its fautless, the upgrade bug has bitten me though and this is probably the cheapest this card has been.

BTW. the one on ebuyer is the `Gaming` edition. The one here mentioned is the `Black` edition. That one has a back plate this hasn`t got. Dunno if there are much other difference though.

The FTW editions were the main fire starters (not a ubiquitous problem but I like to poke fun <3 ). All "ACX" cards can get free thermal pads to stick on and have a BIOS update with a higher fan curve, however.
The problem is probably fixed in newer manufacturing of the card as well.

Hey Keyboard Warrior get the facts right before you split out you own opinions without research. It is well know (for people with knowledge) that they had been catching fire, loads of evidence !!!!
Now OOS until the 11th, but I bit the bullet and got one.
Currently running a 770 but just bought a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, so games can't do native without slowing to a jerky 25fps.
Hopefully this will allow me to get back to Ultra settings and 60fps..
And maybe VR. Maybe.

That's what I'm waiting on.
There's meant to be an exclusive upgrade plan with nvidia for 980ti owners.
Think it's means a slight discount and jump the queue.

Will this be compatible with a P8Z77-M PRO and a OCZ ModXStream Pro Series 600W? It's looking like it will be as I've seen other builds, a second opinion would be awesome (:

There is so much claptrap on the net about overheating this and that - half of it from fan bois from the other camp - the PS4 Pro is a classic example. Supposed to melt apparently - my experience of the Pro is that it is so cool I could probably use the air coming out of the back of it to cool my gaming PC! ;-)

Nope. Strangely enough, they don`t put backplate on them.

To be honest I went for this version as well as this was on sale. All the rest 1070s are still £380+ or £400+ atm. So I am hesitating about this as well but I don`t think so there are much difference between any of the 1070s with 2 fans. They all have the same chip and overclock the same. Only difference on them are the cooling. I wanted MSI Gaming X cos they have the best cooling and materials etc. but they are the most expensive and never on sale. So might just do with this. As I said there aren`t much difference. About the backplate. To be honest not sure if it has any real use apart from structural strength and aesthetics. I read somewhere it might even trap the heat. But anyhow, EVGA has 3 years guarantee at least. So if you get the card can register and if any problem can fix or change it. But hopefully there won`t be any problem. Let me know how it works out for you.

The only issue I can see is if I get a big CPU air cooler and it being to close to the gfx card, what parts have you guys fitting the 1070 with?
Why would it be a problem if it`s too close. But I think there should be enough space?! No?
timz
7 Jan 171#45
I think there should be more then enough space with your setup, just with a bigger air cooler it might be even closer to the top of the gfx card! It's more of a asthetic thing then a performance one.
Wow. Very nice parts!! I prefer the water cooled version. If you put that in then definitely won`t have problem with the GPU card. (Btw. if you want the comp only for games you don`t really need i7. i5 is more then enough. That`s what most people recommend so you can save money on that part. But if you don`t mind money go with i7 and water cool then definitely won`t have problem with cooling and aesthetics. Lol

Hi there. Is this the card you asked about is the one you bought though this deal posted here from Amazon?

Well, managed to get 10 mins to myself yesterday evening to hook this up (single people - stay that way. Married with kids and you end up with no life!).
It's a big ol' card! Had to remove a drive bay from my case to fit in (upgraded from a MSI Twin Frozr Gaming OC GeForce 770 which fitted in fine) but that'll probably help with airflow anyway!
The EVGA software shows the fan is at 0rpm on the desktop, which is nice.
I managed 5 mins of GTA V and it didn't make a peep and run sooo smooth at 3440x1440 with all settings on Ultra or Very High. Will tweak some more when I get a chance and remember to turn the fps counter on!
Glad this was without the backplate too - as the PCI-e slot on my motherboard is very close to the RAM slots, and I'd struggle to fit a card in if there was even more plastic. I don't have a window in my case, so doesn't bother me in the slightest.
