Just purchased myself a dyson handheld from the link.
Seemed a decent price for the v6 animal.
The handhelds start from £143 but for a little extra you get the animal

They didn't even have the mini motorised head. Basically two totally different machines. This one is a cordless vacuum which can be used as a handheld. The V6 Trigger which was £99 was just a handheld.

I think you would be surprised how many items in general go faulty and just thrown away in the bin, at least dyson are repairing and reselling. It's a cost effective way to still make money for any business

I think the brush head has less bristles so it doesn't get clogged with pet hair. It will work ok on wooden hard floors and it is a great price.

The fluffy has the spongy type head for hard floors. If you have some carpet but mainly hard floors I'd personally go for a total clean or a fluffy

I also got a refurb 3 years ago, it was in a plain box but the unit looked brand new I couldn't find a mark on it. It's had some hammer and is still going strong. They are expensive but well worth the money, I got through loads of cheap ones, then I bought this. I always buy refurbed stuff direct from manufacturers now. Karcher stuff is well cheap direct. Thanks for posting. Heat

I've had with the faulty charger when come out the box. But they just send new one for replacement. Refurbish come with black plain packaging box and no model name on the stick. Otherwise all are the same. Battery life same 20 min as per spec. Bought during black friday with same price

I purchased this last year, money well spent!
The only issue I had was the filter had a strong smell otherwise no sign of use pristine condition.
Contacted dyson via call was sent two extra filters for free and the advisor registered it, two year guarantee. Brilliant machine!
Yes it has a 20 minute battery life but as everyone in my household magically now hoovers more often (because it's no longer a chore) 20mins is all you need, if not stick it on charge and get something else done whilst you wait.
A friend of mine has the V6 Total Clean which is suberb, if given the chance I'd definitely go for that purely for the stronger motor and the soft roller head

Bought the refurb DC41 mk2 about 3 weeks ago from the outlet site for £159, arrived quickly and looks like new, I can't see anything that would suggest it isn't brand new. Registered the machine with Dyson and the 'guarantee' is now till 2021  is 'guarantee' the same as warranty?

All manufacturers do this and I'm not sure about dyson but I know cameras are preferred refurbished by manufacturers because they get calibrated properly and not just off the line, if dyson do the same your refurbished dyson could be more efficient.

I can't decide if this is preferable or I've heard on hukd that dyson offer a customer loyalty for previous Dyson owners of £10 discount to this model making it £189.99, a guaranteed 2 year guarantee (some seem to get 2 years on a refurb model, others not. It's looking to me that it's if the item you've bought was registered by the previous owner or not) and a free tool.
What to do. What to do

I got the Absolute which is worth the extra imo. Mine definitely was a refurb as one of the bolts on the head was rusty. No quibble from Dyson....they sent out a brand new one to me. However, as soon as i contacted them they auto registered the machine for me....but only for the 1 year warranty which is a shame as some get new machines with 2 yr warranty. I am more than happy with the price and machine and service from Dyson. I can't see these prices getting much lower, especially as they want to start promoting the v8 more. When i rang Dyson (as an existing customer) they would only take off £10 from the brand new price offer of £250

From their website ( I wonder if the machine I received, although sold as a refurb, has never been sold previously so comes up on their system as a 'new' model?)
How long are refurbished Dyson machines guaranteed for?
Refurbished Dyson machines are stripped, cleaned, rebuilt and tested by Dyson engineers to a nearly-new standard. Every refurbished machine bought from Dyson comes with a free Dyson guarantee that reflects the thoroughness of the refurbishment process. Refurbished (B grade) uprights and cylinders are guaranteed for two years. Refurbished (B grade) handheld and cordless vacuums, fans, heaters and humidifiers are guaranteed for one year.

I have the V6 Absolute, a fantastic vac, VERY effective, light-weight and really easy to use. I got it from Currys and the charger failed after a few weeks but Dyson sent a new one and all is well again. We have a large 5 bed house can manage the groud floor plus the stairs on a charge. I also use it on the cars.
If you have an average size 3 or 4 bed house it really could be all you need. For us however we also have a mains powered vac but it is no more effective than the V6.

Do you swop the heads out much? Friends have the animal and say the standard head works fine on hard floors, don't know if I'd be paying more for something I wouldn't use! I'm aware the head is slightly more powerful on the absolute tho

If you have pets, the machine soon smells. And really cleaning it involves removing and cleaning the cyclone (a major job) AND the brush end needs to be kept clean. Whatever you do, it still smells. I can imagine this would annoy some people, so they would send it back.
Also, its capacity is very small!

The Absolute is better than the Animal, I took this from the dyson website
The Dyson V6 Absolute cordless vacuum comes equipped with two Dyson-engineered cleaner heads. Invented for hard floors, the hard floor cleaner head removes fine dust and debris on hard floors. The Direct-drive cleaner head provides 150% more power than the Dyson V6 Animal vacuum. Dyson V6 Absolute uses patented 2 Tier Radial™ cyclones, an efficient post motor filter and a sealed system to ensure that the air that leaves the machine is cleaner than the air you breathe. Extra Dyson-engineered tools for homes with pets.

Thanks OP, just ordered. Had my DC16 since May 2009 and it is used, with no exaggeration, several times every day without fail - and also a quick scoot around the car each weekend. In that time I've had to replace one battery with a relatively cheap non-Dyson aftermarket one as the original was no longer holding a decent charge but otherwise has been flawless.
It will now be retired to the garage - I hope this new one proves just as reliable.

The V6 animal was there too for £195.
