Thanks for that info, assuming the stock they had was made in 2012 that would be interesting. Real possibility that they made them for a few years. When I worked for Philips they normally estimated how many items they would need for a certain period of time and then warehouse them. Once sales pattern was established they would make more batches upon demand.

The technical details of this particular vacuum does state 15 minutes so no none is "spreading nonsense" around the forum. The model that lasts 20 mins is the V6 range

Sorry, did you even read my post or just jump to conclusions about what you thought I was saying?
I made no comment at all on Dyson or whether the product was any use or not. I was simply stating a fact about rechargeable Lithium batteries, of which I know a considerable amount about seeing as how I have been actively working with them since before you even knew they existed. ( Unless you were in Lithium R&D back in the 90's in which case you might know more about them.). Next time, please don't tell me I said things I didn't and then try to have a go at me for saying them.

I've got one sitting in front of me right now, and I've had it for about 3 months now. When we first got it, normal suction (which is more than powerful enough) lasted at least 20 minutes. 3 months later, I still get a good 20 minutes. You don't start off with 15 minutes suction, spreading that around the forum is nonsense and FUD.
Every single time there is a thread about Dyson handhelds people like you come out of the woodwork saying 'moh only 15/20 mins suction is useless, it's no good'. It's more than enough, not once have I ever run out of juice on a vacuum around the house, not once. If you do run out of battery, you're not using it the right way. It's obviously not designed for 1 hours vacuuming sessions, I think that's plainly obvious. It's the same mentality as calling a laptop useless because it can't last an 8-hour flight on battery, and saying your desktop is better.

Err, no, it's not. My brother had one and tried to claim and was told no. This is also burried in the T's&C's on the Dyson website (not the warranty page sneakily)
What isn't covered by a Dyson guarantee?
Dyson machines are engineered and constructed for continual high performance in normal domestic settings. If a Dyson machine is used in the way it's intended and it breaks down within the guarantee period, it's our responsibility to repair or replace it.
There are, however, some circumstances in which a Dyson guarantee doesn't cover the repair or replacement of a machine. These aren't hidden in the small print. Here's what isn't covered:
•Normal wear and tear, including parts that might wear out over time (e.g. fuse, belt, brush bar, batteries, filters etc.).

I can assure you that there is a boost mode on this model: 15mins @ 28aw and 6mins @ I think 65aw.
You might be thinking of the older model. The older dc30 had just one mode which ran for 6mins.

Lithium batteries lose around 5% chargeable capacity per year even if not used and at ideal storage temperature. If it was 15 mins in 2012 it will be 11.5 mins now. Probably closer to 10.
And that's if it even worked 15 mins to start with which many people say is wildly optimistic.

I had one for about 3 years. Personally I'd say it's solving a problem that doesn't exist. Where suction is important is your 'real' vacuum, that's what's going to be vacuuming carpet, thick rugs, etc. This is for quick pick-up jobs. You're unlikely to be bent over holding this fairly heavy handheld for 15 minutes at a time cleaning something start-to-finish. If you drop a packet of crisps and don't want to get the big hoover out, well if you're me you pick them up and eat them anyway, but for some other people any old cheap handheld would be more than fine. Personally I think the power (and it is fairly powerful) isn't really necessary for most of the cases that this is designed for. We ended up permanently keeping it next to the cat litter boxes to pick up scattered litter, which is fairly undignified for a (normally) £100+ vacuum.

The battery on these is poor and you get a maximum of 10 mins, the thing stops and starts as you vacuum and you have to keep letting go of the trigger and restarting it. Very good whilst it works but spends most of its life on charge.

You must have had a serious fault with yours. The power of these units is designed to be fade free. So it either works at the started power or it doesn't. The power doesn't drop off as the battery dies like a dustbuster would for example.

They probably had it on 'boost' mode which means it'll last about six minutes.
And the battery IS covered under the two year warranty.

Have to disagree I'm afraid.
Ours was awful. Lasted about 6 months of very sporadic use before the battery just died and wouldn't recharge. It works 'well' for about 5 minutes, after which suction becomes noticeably weaker.

Love Dyson but this is garbage and has been pretty much this price for over a year because no one can sell them. Check the reviews online and you'll see one common factor - battery life and the price of replacement. 15 minutes for a brand new battery is optimistic, most people seem to say you're lucky to get 5 and it drops very quickly with every recharge. A lot of people also report the battery doesn't last more than 18 months before needing replacement and guess what? Warranty doesn't cover it so that's going to cost you around £50 - 60.

Personally I would say no when you can get a refurbished V6 for £150. More powerful, more tools and more useful. We got one last year and it's virtually replaced our corded Dyson whereas the DC34 would only be used for car/stairs/awkward crevices etc.

I have the V6 version of this as a secondary vacuum cleaner. Love it - use it way more than the main one now. Probably gets used at least 2-3 times a day for bits, spills, quick cleans, car etc. highly recommended.

Suction remains at a constant level until battery has lost its charge, so no 'die off' as you put it.
Excellent for car, stairs, and hard to reach places etc. I bought a second equivalent (not Dyson) battery off Ebay for about £20 which has worked fine. I took out the screw that holds the battery in place on the Dyson and push in a small plug to hold it in place instead. It allows me to quickly swap out the batteries when in use.

We have both and while the V6 Animal is a far better beast (excuse the pun), if it's worth two thirds of the price again is debatable. Aren't you better saying get the V8 over the V6 as well. The DC34 is fine for lesser roles, still much better than I expected and better for things like the car than that horrible Black and Decker PAD1200 that keeps getting posted.

I've had one of these for years and the battery is still going strong. I had to buy a replacement charger a couple of years ago though. Its a great little handheld. The only thing that bugs me is you have to keep the button pressed in while you vac. Also please be aware that the motorised head tools that you can buy will not work with this model as it doesn't have the driver. I checked with Dyson when I was looking at buying one a while ago.

Had one six months or so ago when this price in Currys. Great little cleaner saves getting the big Dyson out. Last about 15mins on a full charge which is plenty to do the car or stairs.
