Most useless tool I own.
If you want to find wooden studs I highly suggest the magnetic kind.
These don't work too great, didn't find a live 230V wire behind a single sheet of plasterboard dot & dabbed in my garage.

I had to send mine back. It kept going off every time I picked it up!

I have one of these and its saved my life not once but twice..
Seriously though, its better than nothing! Seems to detect things in the wall for me so I know where to hammer a nail in!

How poor are they?
Do they struggle to detect wiring under plasterboard with a skim of plaster?
Most people looking for a £5 version of these is for simply DIY like when hammering in a nail or driving in a screw for shelves, hooks, pic/mirror frames.

But seriously, is there a version of these that actually works and doesn't cost £120?

I'd be interested to know this too, had a look round and generally the reviews seem pretty poor, even on the Bosch one.

Are there any versions of these that actually are useful? Moving house soon and I was looking around, but found that they all seem to have pretty poor reviews.

I have had one of these for years, and it works well for my DIY needs.

This one is a little temperamental. I chucked the one I bought and spent a little more on a higher quality one.
