If you want British made, Solovair used to make DMs (company has been going since 1800s) and have continued making the same footwear in the UK since DM outsourced. Here's their similar boots to these:
They cost more though, obviously. £150 to be exact. But still, preferable to trying to source an old vintage pair.
£52 is a good price though. I picked some navy ones up for that price before Christmas from the same page.

These "made in Thailand" DMs have some seriously bad reviews. Ever at 50 quid, why throw your money away?

I used to love Dr Martens but the last two pairs I bought fell apart after a few months. I think you can still get some that are made in England but I'm sure they're more expensive.
Solovair boots are much better, like real Docs.

Fashionable "tat" at best - I think the last pair I owned was in 1986 and sold them about a week later.
There's vastly better quality boots out there for similar money (or less) as far as I'm concerned.
Some folks could buy these to wear while riding their "British" Motorcycle made in Thailand I suppose...that would be a Triumph :wink:

Not worth £52...... I bought a pair for £40 and i dont even think they are worth that.
If they were the vintage ones, still made in the uk, then it would be a good deal. But not for these crappy made abroad ones.

well the ones i have not made in the uk have been good, as i have a few colours and styles i just wear one pair for a while then change over, all lasting good, and comfortable. ..The made in uk ones i have are also good , but much tougher to break in...As for this price , Agree not really a deal.... but the dr marten outlets have now upped there prices.....so who knows..

I've had a pair of foreign made 1460s since 2014 which I wear regularly. The trick to longevitty? polish them every 2 weeks or so with a good qualty brush-in polish. I wear their 'parade' show to work, 2 years of daily wear and still looking good (most of the grip on the sole gone mind you). Even my canvas Docs survived a tough summer with nothing more than a trip through the washing machine twice. Not sure where the modern foreign made DMs hate comes from, sure they might not be a British shoe anymore - and that is a shame - but they are still tough, comfy and (when you consider how long they last) pretty good value, especially in the sale. £52 for these? Bargain.

Not sure if polishing helps: the main gripe from wearers seems to be that the sole breaks or comes away from the rest of the boot.
Now what is this DM hate you talk of? More likely, I think that people would love to wear a pair of DM 's like they wore years ago....and yet experience shows that these are not the same quality product. I still remember fondly my first pair I bought when I was 17. Alas they are gone, and so IMHO is the brand.
I just can't bring myself to buy a pair when I know the QC has been sacrificed at the altar of short term profit margins.

Can you recommend some polish? I've got these and the 1461 Carpathian Brogues. First things I've owned that aren't sneakers for a long time so want to look after them!

I have tried the UK make DMs and the Thai, and another (I forget), and the the UK were by far the least comfortable, leather wasn't as supple, had more visible defects, felt too thick, and formed deep un appealing creases from walking which the others did not.
Polish I'd recommend is probably "jak sie masz" very useful.

I ordered the DM cherry polish £3.79 delivered via amazon, then realised it is a different colour. Whoops. I have some neutral stuff that I will use instead.
