I have on and agree with the first review
1. The writing by the dials will come off after 2 or 3 uses.
2. The grill plates have not been angled correctly, so any fat that drips off the food does not fall off the grill, but instead stays on the plates and just end up burnt
3. When you lift the lid, the fat drains off the top grill plate onto the back of the machine and all over your worktop
anyway I complained to delongh and they replaced it for the second to be the same - phoned them again and they sent a kettle as compensation.
can not fault delongh as a company but this item is poor although at this price it's a bargain (I have lifted the back to the plates are angled better)

I have a new George foreman grill with the exact same issue, the angle is not angled enough so nothing drips out and stays burnt on the girl instead.

That was one of my Amazon reviews, and I would advise everybody to avoid this grill, even at £20 - just save yourself a lot of hassle and buy a different machine, (I went back to the George Foreman). On the De'Longhi machine the channel the fat drains out of is not like the George Foreman, i.e the fat comes out of the whole of the front of the machine, instead on the De'Longhi the fat is directed to the bottom right hand side, the area the fat comes out of is around one centimeter, if this gets blocked then all of the fat will stay on the machine and start burning causing a horrible smell in your kitchen and on your food (see picture 6 on the Amazon website to get an idea of how small the area is that the fat drains out of).
When you lift the lid, the fat on the top grill plate spills on to the back of the machine and all over your counter top, it takes ages to clean the back of the machine and the counter top.
On a positive note, if you buy the machine from Tescos, then you will be able to return it to them after you have used it a few times (as the numbers on the dials will come off after a few uses, giving you a reasonable excuse to return the machine). Make sure you keep your receipts safe.........

with this level of complexity, is worth discovering the joys of a frying pan particularly as they are saying fat isn't bad for you. And then when you finish wipe it with a kitchen towel and it virtually clean. The real devil is in the detail of these machines

i often wonder how products can be thought out, designed, approved, prototype made, tested, approved etc etc until manufactured... and still be a big pile of crap that doesn't even do the single job it was created for. like grill plates not being angled properly.. how does that even get passed the initial design phase?

I have put a 12 mm sheet of plastic under the rear feet - this lifts it sufficiently to let the fat to drain forward / really bad design but easily fixed

I bought one of these and returned it for the usual reasons. It's very lightweight and appears poor quality, nowhere near good enough for the high RRP, and it's no surprise that the price has been reduced so much !

Shouldn't you be buying a new over rather than a piece of tat that you will never use?
They don't make any more but George Foreman brand used to make a small clamshell oven and it was the best thing I ever owned. You could either put food items directly on the bottom or on a tray and if you did that there was virtually no cleaning, it was the ultimate low energy oven and you could do whole chickens in it.

Should be an easy job as the grill plates come off, but in truth it is a bit of a nightmare as the ridges the fat drains off are very thin and really deep, the fat seems to get stuck in these and then burns, so it takes ages to clean.

If anyone wants a proper decent health grill thing, I would recommend a Tefal Optigril+. Pricey, but bulletproof.

Thats great, I'm glad you do. I have friends that work in retail that hate it, and I've done bar work which while I enjoyed some aspects hated others. I'm happy when my friends get a bargain, I don't feel I am more entitled to it than them just because I don't work there. I'm not belittling your job, I'm glad you like it, I'm just saying that for what you put up with I think you should be allowed the odd benefit.
