He'd just gorged himself on a kill so was sleeping it off. I have a load of shots, I'll share later. There's a nice comparison where the guide used an SLR (but with a cheaper lens) versus this.

This was a good price, although personally I would recommend spend more and get a compact that slips in your jeans pocket and it will give similar results with 1080p video....
Had a Sony hx10v for nearly 4 years, not really missed the zoom being only 16x on mine, but the pictures and especially the video is great, use it a lot for motorsport events.
just my 2 pence worth.

I'll say it again, no good having an all singin all dancin DSLR with mingy lens and pouring over settings and quality when you don't actually get the photo in the first place..
I have been in the same boat as RXP91 and got shots of animals from afar with superzoom bridge cams, of which I have missed out on with a DSLR in the past..
For safari and anywhere you need to zoom in close, unless you have £10G and want to cart a lens longer than your arm around with you, these superzoom bridge cameras are just great!

Shame the price has shot back up :disappointed:

Took this with last years model on Safari
Everyone I went with had pretty good SLR's with separate lenses, but this little beast with 42x optical took the best photos of the lot purely because of the zoom. Also nice having a Point and Shoot so you could quickly take a picture and just enjoy the surroundings without fixating on your camera settings.

Have been trying to purchase this camera since Christmas but it has never been available. I spoke to Argos Customer Services and was told it was available in Portsmouth, I live in London! I was rather disappoint with Argos when it became available in my area this week with a price increased of £40, now £169.

Damn this website, I've gone and brought one .
But I do need a new camera.
Read a lot of reviews, and it's a mediocre camera, it's simple to use and fully automatic for the point and shoot.
Collect mine tomorrow.

Anyone know what it's like in the low light, such as music concerts?

Would this be any good for taking action shots like kids football matches?

It would be OK.. Not really designed for fast action. You would need a decent slr with at least 5fps

Autofocus system on most bridge cameras will not be fast enough for sports...especially at zoomed lengths
Also another bridge camera that lacks one important thing for use in bright conditions.....a viewfinder.....they also make taking action pics easier
It has the old CMOS which tend to produce a lot image noise. I would spend some more money and go for the 540.

Now here is a classic example of
Someone passing a comment without any knowledge of the product. This camera has a CCD sensor not a CMOS. I have this camera and for a normal family person it is the business. It takes good action shots and has a class leading zoom. If you want better pay 10 times as much. But unless your a professional this camera is perfect for normal use.

Worth reading this review - http://cameradecision.com/review/Canon-PowerShot-SX420-IS
There isn't a sports setting but the P mode with rapid shoot works well.
these were all taken with it
