Yep, the RRP of the 500 Plus was £399, it could be gotten for around £350-60 shopping around, that is how much mine cost me in 1992.

Thanks for the info very interesting i had a comadore 16 had some pretty good games for its spec i didnt have a 64 because i had a spectrum plus 3 the one with a disc drive i remember playing turbo outrun on it loved it.
But the amiga 500plus i had was such a improment at the time was quite pricey at £400 i believe could be wrong it cost me and my brother all our birthdays and christmas presents for a year we wanted it that bad. i think my favorite game was probably prince of persia it was tough timing those jumps right though lol

Piracy was a contributing factor to software houses shifting to consoles..alongside technological advances leading to a shift to 3D gaming, but ultimately it was Commodore themselves making too many bad business decisions that led to bankruptcy.

Unlike the worldwide success of the C64, the Amiga was successful in Europe, the Amiga 600 should never have happened, originally meant to be a cut down price version of the Amiga 500 it originally sold for a higher cost, replacing the short lived 500+ production.

The A1200 was about 1-2 years too late (and dated quickly, by 1994 it desperately needed a 68030/40 processor and upgraded graphics hardware to compete with the rise of 3D titles on other systems), and despite initial promising sales in Europe of the CD32, software production was poor alongside very little in the way of enhancements of existing A500/1200 titles.

Sadly, whilst still profitable here in the UK, a proposed buyout by Commodore UK failed at the 11th hour, Escom firstly then Gateway 2000 killed the 'Amiga' as a brand.

This is without looking at the other financial errors from the 8 Bit generation home computers...the R&D of the C65 which never got released. The failures of the Plus-4 and C16, the brilliant but little supported in 128 mode C128 and the laughable C64GS games console.

Hard to believe that the humble C64 with its MOS 6510 processor and 64K RAM effectively outlived them all. 22 Million units sold over 12 years, with the only change being lessening production costs and case revisions. As much as I loved the Amiga and still own an expanded A1200, it is the C64 that is remembered as the only lasting success of Commodore International.

Nope... Tis true that the switches broke easily, but in terms of ergonomics, it was second to none.

Also, I assume that you've heard of the two Amiga documentaries that are doing the rounds?

I remember running down the freezing street, going berserk, screaming, "Thank you God!"

Think I was about 11 or 12...must have been 1990/91? The years that followed, swapping and copying disks from everyone at high school, were the greatest!

Sensi, Monkey Islands, Pinball Dreams, Last Ninja, Turrican, Syndicate, just sooo many to mention!!

Long live the Amiga!

Used to play my brother at Sensi on the Amiga all the time, was the only platform to play it on, pure class

We had an A600
His weapon of choice was a Quickshot Python and mine was actually a Mega Drive Pad (only the B button worked when it was plugged into the Amiga but that was all you needed for Sensi)

How those pads and joysticks never broke after being thrown about so much, I'll never know :-D

Sank hours into Sensi, Superfrog, Skweek, Turrican, Speedball, Xenon 2 & Lemmings on my Amiga 500 back in the day and I was 24 then.
Trusty Konix Navigator joystick, my wife armed with 'The Bug' and our early married years were bliss
As has already been said, the Amiga versions were head and shoulders above any others.
Used to swap games with Amiga contacts I found in New Computer Express.
Happy days.

Significantly worse than their Amiga counterparts, particularly sonically, this was a time when there were many variations of PC Soundcards.

Sensible Software, the last bastion of European Commodore gaming successes, the slow death of the Amiga brand alongside the shift of gaming from 2D to 3D led to their demise, RIP Sensible Software, RIP Richard Joseph......
