I am after some advice. My wife and I are expecting twins. Originally I was thinking of one with a video camera, but is it worth the extra money and would this do pretty much the same job. Just not sure what other parents do.

In my opinion better to go for an audio only monitor. Camera ones tends to mean you end up watching it all the time, especially at first. Our BT monitor has very clear audio so we can hear everything going on in the room anyway!

I'd personally recommend an Angelcare with a sensor mat. I always found the mat to be reassuring especially at night. Downside is that they are more expensive than most. But each to their own I guess!!

I've just ordered a video monitor. it's horses for courses but for just over £60 I like being able to see what they're up to e.g. not rolled onto front or got covers over their face etc...

Hi mate,
We recently had a baby and honestly can't imagine only having an audio monitor. It might be the case that if you got an audio monitor you're perfectly fine and don't miss video, but I certainly could not go to an audio-only monitor. There are times at night where my toddler will cough or turn over and this obviously wakes up the monitor but I can quickly check the screen and see that he's sleeping away. Whereas if that had been the case with an audio-only, I'd have had to go into the room at the risk of disturbing him to check he's ok.
I sympathise with you in that everything right now is confusing and you can't possibly get your head around all these products, but one thing I'd definitely recommend is a good video monitor. I have the Tommee Tippee one personally and although it's expensive, the quality is superb (I know this because I bought a cheaper one subsequently for when he stays at his grandma's and the quality is nowhere near as good for both audio and video). It comes with the sensor mat which some parents find useful but I personally have never hooked it up.

Kiaclare you need to replace the nimh batteries in the receiver. I had the same issue, some rechargeable IKEA batteries solved it. Still going strong. Highly recommended baby monitor - much better than the tommee tippee job which was naff

These are fantastic when they work but google reviews before buying. We bought some second which were faulty, sent them back and bought new and now they're faulty too. They click and make a beeping noise for no reason and battery never charges to full, as soon as it links with parent handset it shows low battery
