I decided I don't want 4k on such a "small" monitor, but for those who do, this is a great price.

That was a bargain! Excellent screen for the money. I was between one of these, the samsung u28e590d, or the LG 27UD68P. I went with the more expensive LG (£400) in the end.
If I'd have seen this earlier I'd of had a go at it, especially at the price. From what I've read this is a pretty good TN panel. If you have to have an IPS panel, and don't mind the 5ms response time then the LG seems to be the best in around the £400 mark, well I think so. Depends what your using them for of course

Had mine arrive today. Simple plug and play, instantly booted to 3840x2160 over HDMI without having to set anything in Windows. Very impressed with the monitor, especially at the discounted price Amazon were selling them at!
One thing I have noticed is Nvidia control panel detects it as a AOC U2879G6 instead of AOC U2879VF. Presumably just some setting specific to the hardware and the consumer name has the 'VF' instead of G6?
As for the question about AMD FreeSync - the box and feature sticker (piece of paper held on by the clear plastic protective wrap, which covered every single piece of shiny plastic, front, back, sides, top, bottom...) on the screen bezel has the AMD logo, so would suggest it's the proper AMD FreeSync tech being used and not "Adaptive sync is FreeSync without the AMD oversight", the website also says 'FreeSync TM' as opposed to Adaptice sync. Not owned an AMD GPU for years though so can't say how good that feature is or any way to test it to see if it's proper AMD or not.

Adaptive sync is FreeSync without the AMD oversight. It should work the same. 40Hz to 60Hz range isn't great though.
