Used this for a while to remote control my laptop as well as Plex, openPHT and Media Player. Excellent! But now I have set up a little A/V network with my Roku, amp, and laptop I tend to use Teamviewer which I know isn't quite the same thing but works like a supercharged VNC, allows me to wake my laptop from full sleep mode and is free!

Hi take a look at the free KORE app for remotely controlling KODI. I use it for my sony smart TV as well as my laptop when I'm connected to friends' TVs using HDMI
It take a few steps to set up but works flawlessly. Entering text is so much easier using this than the remote control entry for my TV.
Apparently this Unified remote app does the same in the paid version - but I can't tell you how good that is - haven't used it

Your next device might have one, so well worth a punt for the low price (with free future updates).

17 Jan 17#56
You don't. Little bit techy, but port forward an obscure port to your PC from your router, and then specify the port in the server and phone app. Works fine for me, no more latency than being on the same network.
I use it to control my PC TV tuner when I am on the train, so it will tune a channel and stream it to my phone.

Should add - you will need a fixed IP at home, or use a dynamic DNS service, to reach your PC from a remote network.

17 Jan 17#71
For 10p you obviously can't go wrong, but this really isn't much of an improvement over the free version. The individual 'remotes' you can choose for Netflix, Youtube etc are redundant given how easy it is to cast to a TV or PC using the relevant apps. The most useful feature is the mouse / keyboard controls which are present in the free version. Not trying to put down the deal itself - 10p is a steal whichever way you look at it, it's just weird to me that a paid version exists alongside the free version. If anything they should have just had one single version priced at 50p or something from the get-go. Sorry for the ramblings there - heat added regardless.
MynameisM
17 Jan 17#72
but that wouldn't make sense if they had one instead of free and paid it should be less than the paid one to cater for both parties.

It's has a lot of uses. I've used it for the following:-
- Controlling my Home Theatre PC, so we don't have to keep a keyboard on the sofa.
- Controlling my Server without the need of entering the room it's in / keep a monitor and keyboard etc hooked up to it, so it can be tucked away.
There's most probably lots of other uses for this app. At this price it's a steal. If you sit with a laptop on your lap, maybe this app is not for you, but for millions of others, this app is invaluable.
