This is valid on a spend of over £50.

It just worked for me on some shoes

How to Claim:

Add any Qualifying Items with a combined value of £50 or more (the “Minimum Purchase”) to your Shopping Basket via the “Add to Basket” button. You cannot use the 1-Click ordering method when redeeming a promotional code.

When you’re done shopping, click the “Proceed to Checkout” button.

At checkout, enter the promotional code (BIGTHANKS) in the “Gift Cards and Promotional Codes” box. The Offer will then be applied to your order, reducing the cost of your total order value by £10.

Spend £50 or more in a single transaction (on a single item or on multiple items) dispatched from and sold by Amazon at the website http://www.amazon.co.uk (“Qualifying Items”) and £10 will be deducted from your total order value when you enter promotional code BIGTHANKS at checkout (the “Offer”). This Offer applies only to products dispatched from and sold by Amazon, excluding baby formula, digital products (Audible, Digital Documents, Digital Video Download, Digital Music Service, Digital EBook Purchase, Digital Software, Digital Video Games, Mobile Apps), alcoholic drinks, gift cards (Gift Card, Gift Certificates, etc.) and delivery and handling charges. It cannot be redeemed on products sold by Amazon US or Amazon.co.uk Marketplace platform (including items Fulfilled by Amazon), at any of Amazon.co.uk’s Trusted Partner sites or at any other Amazon site, for example Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.es, Amazon.fr or Amazon.it. Each customer may claim a maximum of one Offer. This Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional codes or on any pre-existing orders. This Offer ends at 23:59 GMT on Friday, 20 January, 2017.

Ensure that you have £50 or more worth of items sold and dispatched by Amazon in your basket. Items which are sold and dispatched directly by Amazon.co.uk can be identified by the message "Dispatched from and sold by Amazon" on the product detail page. Please note that items described as “Dispatched from and sold by Amazon US” are not sold and dispatched by Amazon.co.uk and are therefore not eligible for this Offer.

Don't know how Amazon won #1 customer service when they dropped their 1 week policy and stopped giving refunds when an item's price drops after you purchase it
knack to Change_Me
20 Jan 17 1 #86
That was never a published policy and whenever I got a refund they made it clear it was a goodwill gesture.

At least if the difference is significant you can use their returns policy to return the item and then repurchase it.

'I understand the price of the item has been reduced by 10 GBP in this case I'll now refund the price difference to your gift card balance' is all that was said... this was a week after my initial order....

20 Jan 17 1 #168
You need to use filters, you can only find that by using a specific category on the left hand side where it says " show results for", it will then give a list of categories after selecting a specific category it will then list sellers of which you can then tick a box for just Amazon.

To find Amazon only products is pretty simple. After you have searched for an item, it is important that you choose a category which can be seen on left hand side. Once you do still keeping to the left hand side of the page scroll down until you see "seller" look for amazon. If amazon is not there then click "see more" and click the "A" letter until you see amazon. If amazon is still not there then they are not selling what you are after. Hope that helps anyone struggling.

Does this offer work when you redeem gift card vouchers as payment?
X50pence777 to lord_trumpington
20 Jan 17 1 #325
yes
if the £15 is from a gift card it wont make a difference if you return an item, you will get money back for the returned item(if you return both you will get the money you spent money back + gift card credit back )
as for this BIGTHANKS voucher im not sure but as both are over £50(the minimum spend) then the voucher should theoretically be applied to the one you keep...

A note on this promotion for pre-orders:

I just bought one board game, and 2 books coming out later in 2017. It splits the £10 voucher proportionately between each item. So if the board game is £12.74 and the books are £40.90, the board game ships for £10.36 (£2.38 discount) and the books ship for £33.28 (£7.62 discount).

I hope that clears things up for people.

I read somewhere that the Switch has inferior hardware than the Wii U because of its portable mode. Personally I think the Switch is overpriced especially when you consider that the dock, the online, the controllers are all overpriced. Plus besides Zelda, the only other non remaster major game coming out will be Mario in December

This deal is pretty good if you plan on upgrading your PS4 drive though. That 2TB Seagate FireCuda is the way to go

Bought 1 on Black Friday to have a play with... liked it. Since then, have bought another 2 Dots and 1 Echo all on deals mind. Very happy with them even though I'm yet to get around to all the automated side of things. Echo is in the kitchen for example, it has replaced the old kitchen radio and useful for setting timers for when food goes in. Need to know what F is for 350c, just ask. Kids also resorted to using for homework on occasion ... doing their math - cheats! :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought that I would be crafty and re-order some past orders with Amazon...

However, Amazon appear to have beaten me to it as past purchases are now at least 20% higher. (eg: 5 of Hangman Products 30-Inch Heavy-Duty Mirror and Picture Hanger with Walldog Anchorless Screws - Aluminum (HM-30D) Sold by: Amazon Export Sales LLC $12.09 now priced at $17.95) So, it's the case with my past orders of basically...no deal, it's the same price or more expensive buying today.

As with all these types of promotional discount, make sure that you're aware of recent prices and that they haven't been hiked up.
ikonanddiva to ikonanddiva
22 Jan 17 1 #635
Well...it comes as no surprise that I was right with the price hiking and anticipated price drop after the BIGTHANKS, thanks to an alert I've just received from CamelCamel

Incorrect the Switch is more powerful than the Wii-U. Zelda runs at 720p30 on Wii-U and 900p30 on Switch when in the TV dock. In handheld mode it only runs at 40% power to prolong battery life which brings down to Wii-U level of performance. In the dock it runs better than Wii-U comfortably.

Amazon sometimes drops prices, and you can get the difference back if you chat with them, but it's doubtful they'll do that this time because of the extra discount voucher
They're a business - you can see it from their perspective that they have to make money too, not just give things away below cost

You add a friend's account to your Xbox and set as your Home console. Then games purchased digitally are available to both of you.

Not a glitch, just a legitimate feature. It's the reason I've switched almost exclusively to digital games now. Everything half price.

You can always return for free if 'there's something wrong/unsatisfactory' with the item, whatever that may be.

If you just don't like it some things you can return free like clothing, it will say free returns on the product page.

Assuming it hasn't changed, for other stuff you just start a return, and whichever option you pick from the reasons list determines whether it costs or not if you catch my drift

I have noticed that Amazon have done this to an item that was 'Too' popular.
(32GB Toshiba SDXC card that was £13.99 then suddenly went 'Prime Only' !!! ???)
It seems to be a new trick.
I have also noted that items in your lists can be 'increased' in price but when you check the item directly the price has not gone up. If you click the item from the list you get the higher price !!!??? (A bit naughty).

Order placed within the offer time. Discount code accepted on order page. However order history and email confirmation show the discount was not applied.

Amazon online chat has informed me that due to high traffic at the end of the offer period, the promotion was not applied. They are unable to apply it now or apply a manually added £10 credit

Amazon was apparently offering this promotion due to being ranked number one for customer satisfaction in the UK

The offer should stand if the order was placed within the offer period. Otherwise this could perhaps be considered false advertisement? I think it said orders up to 2359. So you should have got the promtion if you ordered at 2357.

21 Jan 17 #611
I had a similar thing happen to me except I applied the code at 11:57 and it just said that the code had expired so I didn't go ahead with the order. Went onto Amazon Live Chat and the guy just said that there was no way it could've happened and that there was nothing he could do but forward it onto their team. Shame cause I was just starting to like Amazon again as well.
TheMightyClam
21 Jan 17 #612
Yeah, I didn't end up ordering as it said code expired, so I cut my nose off to spite my face. It would p%*s me off to know if I'd ordered even 10 mins earlier I would have saved a tenner.

So the Amazon bloke couldn't possibly see how that happened yet here's two of us saying the same thing hmm...

Amazon blokes are usually low paid workers in India who are predisposed to robotic responses. Literally tested with 3 unique CS staff and got the same pasted response.

I recall last years BIGTHANKS, they held the £10 for me for about a week. This year they're a bit more strict.

Im just salty I couldnt get the Zowie FK2 for £39.99 :disappointed:

No, its is not 20 %. It is 10 pounds, no more. For example it was a DEAL: . Post 26. mnneast
"Just pick up mine! Ordered this morning and the code was working fine...
£649 - £200 ( Amex / 4 transactions) - £240 Panasonic cash back ( need to wait 1 month to claim) - £13.31 ( quidco)
Total £195.69" .

Easy 400 pounds savings....or 200 pounds if you sell it back on ebay, gumtree etc. Ofc this is only fresh example. Thread deserve hot as hundreds of us use it but definitely this is not the best deal ever. Using other words, Formula 1 circuit best time lap is won by Daewoo Matiz/ Citroen C1 ?

No problem, I know what you mean.....Ecco is one of my fazvourite brands, love thier style of women shoes but at the price of £80+, even over £100, I could never justify myself to buy a pair but at the current price with the £10, couldn't resist. Most likley the cheapest ecco shoes as of right now.....

On most offers if you read the terms and conditions they usually say offer can be ended early at their own discretion. This is to protect companies if offers become too popular. They'll have a set amount set aside for offers, when that money is used up it's game over. Those complaining of the offer not being accepted at 23:57-9....check your clocks against this clock

https://www.timeanddate.com/time/internettime.html
TheMightyClam to howdiefellas

I am a horology nut and all my clocks / watches are set exactly to atomic time. At the time I was wearing a high frequency Quartz watch with a time +/- to 15 secs a year. So yes, my time was accurate, just for clarification. They ended the offer early either due to them ending it early, or their they were rocking the wrong time.

Anyway I can only be irritated on missing out on a deal for so long!

My computer clock is under a second faster than the time given in the link by howdiefellas. Therefore I reckon the deal ended early. Especially as a few fellow hukd members have reported the same happening to them.

I wasn't in desperate need of what I was purchasing. There is the possibility of it coming up in a future lightning deal or having a price drop in the future. It may even become cheaper elsewhere.

Ideally Amazon should be a bit more on the ball for situations like this.

What I was frustrated by was the inefficiency of the customer services rep in the online chat.

Next time I'll just have to order several minutes before a promotion is ending.

I thought that I was getting somewhere with online chat: transcript is below:

Initial Question: Hi, I was hoping to place an order before midnight so that I could use the code "BIGTHANKS". I could not get the code to work and there was still a couple of minutes before midnight. I have just over £200 in my basket so was disappointed that I could not get the code to work and have therefore not placed my order.

12:39 AM GMT Vignesh(Amazon): Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk. I'm Vignesh.
Am I chatting with Miss L J Cunningham?

12:39 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Yes you are.
12:40 AM GMT Vignesh: Thank you. Hello Miss L J Cunningham.
12:40 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Hi Vignesh.
12:42 AM GMT Vignesh: I understand you would like to know the big thanks.
12:43 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: I could not get the code "BIGTHANKS to work" which would have given me £10 off my order.
12:44 AM GMT Vignesh: Please note, the offer is running from 00:00 until 23:59 on Friday January 20th, 2017 only. Any orders placed outside of this time period are not eligible for the discount.
12:45 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: I tried to add the code at 23:57 and it would not add the code even though it was before midnight.
12:46 AM GMT Vignesh: I see that the cutoff time is ended so only you are unable to activated on this.
12:47 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Yes but why would it not let me add I not add the code even though it should still have been working as it was 23:57
12:48 AM GMT Vignesh: I am sorry for that I am unable to confirm why it was happen.
12:50 AM GMT Vignesh: And I see that there is a heavy traffic to activated on big thanks so only some times it is not apply.
12:51 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Well I am not very impressed with amazon and feel that I wasted my time this evening. I have seen the LED bulbs cheaper at John Lewis so will purchase from there.
12:52 AM GMT Vignesh: Okay in this case I will help you better I will contact our internal team and ask them to apply the promo for you so you will receive the email confirmation within 24 hours.
12:54 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Shall I wait for email confirmation before placing my order?
12:55 AM GMT Vignesh: No once you placed the order and it will be manually updated on your account.
12:57 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Okay I will place the order now on the understanding that I will receive a confirmation within 24 hours for a £10 discount with regard to the promotional code.
12:57 AM GMT Vignesh: Yes you are correct.
12:57 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Okay thanks for your help.
12:58 AM GMT Vignesh: I request you to please do not worry about this.
12:58 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: Okay. Thanks again for your help.
12:58 AM GMT Vignesh: Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
12:59 AM GMT Miss L J Cunningham: No that's all.
01:00 AM GMT Vignesh: You're most welcome.
It's my pleasure helping you!
Have a nice Day!

Subsequently Amazon are refusing to honour the £10 after I placed the order and I think that I should contact trading standards about this. I have now cancelled the order as I am astonished at how poor their customer service is.
HottyHotty to Greeble69
22 Jan 17 #633
I'm pretty sure that's not a trading standards issue. More it's an employee error that they're not willing to stand by.

On a £200 order might work out cheaper if you buy in a few weeks. I bought a coat that has gone up by £21.99 since bigthanks, but other stuff I was considering has dropped in price. £10 off £200 is not much, could easily change with price fluctuation.

Thing about amazon, you have to picture them as a big robot, rather than a human entity that you can argue the case with. The drones will only do what they're allowed to do at any given time, and for whatever reason they're not budging on bigthanks.
BigDiscovery
22 Jan 17 #634
Second order got canceled. Amazon does not allow buying popular items on multiple accounts (even though second account had a different surname, card number, phone number and email), basically 1 "popular/high demand" item per household.
Still happy, but if you live in a house share and your housemate buys that item before you, then you are screwed.
HottyHotty
22 Jan 17 1 #636
And it's not just amazon it should be said, in these days where every day is a sale/code/deal, all the retailers mark stuff pre-discount day.

Saying that... coat I bought on bigthanks was cheapest it's been at £60, day after is now over £80, both prices far cheaper than elsewhere. So it's not always a scam, but as you said worth knowing exactly the value and price history of what you buying.
ikonanddiva
22 Jan 17 #637
Exactly; buyers need to be acutely aware of the price history ("caveat emptor") as a lot of retailers/distributors are crafty with their promotional discounts. Not all and not on all occasions but it does happen quite often...

Some people will have saved money with this promotion (well done them), others won't have being tricked into 20% off, unaware of 20%+ price hiking prior to a promotion. The price hike in my case was 48% or 64% on the price a few days later. Naughty Amazon.
Speculator
23 Jan 17 #638
Placed 4 separate orders with code bigthanks.

Order no 1. Ordered Duck feather/Down Duvet. They sent me two pillows.
Order no.2 Ordered 3 x size 3 Rocketdog boots for my wife. They sent 2 x size 3 and 1 x size 5
Order no.3 Ordered Note 4 battery charger inc battery and Lego Dimension Story pack from Amazon warehouse. They sent the Battery charger but can't find the Lego.
Order No. 4 Ordered a plate and a 4G MIFI. Received plate, Mifi due early next month.

They better not mess up my Mifi order!

I tried ordering a few minutes before the time was up and it wouldn't work for me. Contacted Amazon and they was as good as useless.
Greeble69
23 Jan 17 #640
Yes I did get the impression that because my grievance was to do with the big thanks they wouldn't do anything- they have obviously got no movement on this promotion- I suppose they want to be fair so that people cannot complain that some have been given the promotion retrospectively and others haven't. I was simply annoyed at the poor customer service with regard to a promotion for which was given due to them been rated for customer service. The customer service representative should never have said that the promotion would be applied and I feel that Amazon should have acknowledged that this was wrong and that I only placed the order based upon the promotion been applied (I have now cancelled my order).

I just had to email CS as when I ordered Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - the promotion seemed to vanish when they applied £2 prime discount after I'd pre-ordered it. They said initially to email when the game dispatches to get a £10 refund but the reply says they're applying £10 credit to my account - not as good but it'll come in handy I'm sure.
Anyone else have problems with the code?
chompyrud to Mikey91
27 Apr 17 #644
mine went through fine for mariokart and zelda - the discount was apportioned in relation to the cost of the games - I paid roughly £35 for mariokart and roughly £40 for zelda
