i've installed the MTK engineering app but there is no audio setting in the hardware menu, any ideas?

Nope, bog standard, except for running the firmware update when I first got it.
I should add I'm a deaf old b***** so a good volume and clarity of tone are important to me.

Have you used any apps to increase volume?

Sorry, have just read bertiebasset's appraisal "lovely little basic phone".
I found I could barely get it to play music as I set the micro sd as portable storage and ot adoptable storage as was not sure I could copy music across by the usb.

What do you expect for a tenner?
With the SD card fitted (finnicky!) I set it for "USB Storage" and a folder pops up on my desktop, already mounted, into which I can copy over any data I need.
I find the media volume and clarity, both on phones and speaker, very good indeed, better than with other, dearer phones I've owned, and can easily set my stored music as clear, loud ringtones, which wasn't always the case I found on others.
Great call quality and reception too.
I think, for the price, it's wonderful value, when I only really bought it for tethering, as a cheap option to a midi or dongle, to use the Asda Xmas bundle and the Three 24 GB deal.
Maybe I'm not used to any better? :stuck_out_tongue:

I replaced my first one because the volume was lacking, bu it seems the next one is the same, pretty weak speaker, not a loud ringer.

O2's website is awful to order from. Took me about 20 attempts, it would go into loops of requesting login then failing on the payment page.

When I bought the Alcatel 4 4 the week before Xmas (their busiest time, you'd think?), it all went flawlessly at the first try.
The same process, this time trying to get this 4 5, took me 3 days on and off from Wednesday through till Friday.... nightmare!

After the third or fourth try last night and deleting my prev payg numbers, I thought as AndyRoyd discerned, it wasnt worth the hassle.
You got the Alcatel 4 4?
I got the Alcatel 4 4 from EE instead previously. How did you find yours?

Couldnt buy as it had one of my contact details wrong and couldnt change it. Anyone encountered that?

I had similar issue; o2 website's address database appears to be poor. In a chat session with o2 I was told to create an o2 account prior to purchase using incorrect but acceptable-to-the-website contact details, then call o2 to correct the inaccuracies, then place an order online. Already lost interest ? Wouldn't blame you; far too much faff for a £20 mobile.

Same for me today. Despite having already set up an account and bought a phone last month, and my name and address showing up correctly after logging in, it wouldn't let me past that page (Your details incorrect).
Ended up having to buy it through their sales dept by phone...
Nightmare, kept cutting me off before completing sale, and every time I had to start all over again from the beginning (plus two of them told me point blank "we don't sell Alcatels", others "you mean Alcatel pop", one even "Never heard of that brand before, it's only my second day" after I spelled it out to him) but I wanted this phone A LOT having missed out last time.
These people made EE's CS look good!
Pity because the staff in my local O2 shop couldn't have been more knowledgeable and helpful when I visited.

Worth bookmarking it and keeping an eye open. It's been back in stock since Wednesday, and likely to come back again, according to my local O2 shop staff.
Also this one https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/phones/alcatel/pixi4-4-like-new
only 3g but then only a tenner (plus 99p to unlock), which was available just before Christmas and again for a couple of days last week. Grabbed it in December and think it's a lovely little basic phone.

clicked pay as go classic and got this
confirm I want my service to start as soon as I top up my sim (you'll still have 14 days to cancel, you'll just pay for what you've used)
- I have read the terms and conditions and checked my coverage
- If you've chosen a 4G package, additional terms apply.
this isnt a contract sim is it

Well I didn't have to enter bank details for direct debit but any sale is a "contract" nor did I when I bought one when last available back mid-December - I think they would have produced a bill by now.

Nope, you should have noticed the total amount at checkout is only £19.99. (This is confirmed in the email you'll probably have received by now)
They do send out a SIM card with the phone but it's then your option to top it up or not.
Frankly, with unlocking only costing 99p, I'd doubt anyone would choose an O2 tariff!

Bought one of these last time
Pros:
Very responsive
Plenty of storage
Only 99p to unlock
only £19.99 !
2% tcb
Cons:
awful screen with a terrible viewing angle and while you can turn down the brightness
the contrast is set way to high imo

if brightness is a problem download "darker" or similar. that should make it easier to bear with

not a bad phone for £20 use mine as a backup phone
Bought one last night. Currently zero obligation to buy with a top up, although the process suggests it is obligatory. If no top up is required, just select a SIM type (example: "Classic Pay As You Go") and when clicking "Select" no top up costs are added.
