24 Hours Only: £5 Bonus Just To Say Thank You

We're very proud to announce that we have been voted Cashback Site of the Year, for the second year in a row! Courtesy of the MoneyFacts Consumer Awards 2017. But we couldn't have done it without you! So, for the next 24 hours you can get £5 extra cashback on one transaction when you spend over £10 - it's just our way of saying thank you, and that we really do have the best members!

What to Expect…

You will need to opt-in to this offer. Once your eligible cashback has tracked you will see the extra £5 appear in your account as a seperate transaction, please allow 7 days for your transactions to appear in your account.

Terms and Conditions

During this promotion members of TopCashback are able to receive an additional Cashback Bonus when the below Terms and Conditions are met.

All information detailing the promotion forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the entrant agrees to abide by these rules.

The information given in these terms and conditions is correct, but TopCashback reserve the right to change any of the below without prior notice.

To be eligible for the £5 cashback promotion, you must be a member of TopCashback.co.uk. You must activate the offer via the link on associated promotions in email and across the site.

Transactions that are reported by the merchant as being made from 00:00 28/01/2017 and 23:59 28/01/2017 will be included in the promotion. Grocery cashback transactions, Tell-a-friend bonuses, sign up bonuses or any other form of incentivised transaction will not be eligible for the Cashback Earnings Boost on top.

Your purchase amount should be £10 or more, this is the purchase amount reported back to TopCashback, some merchants may exclude VAT or delivery charges.

The additional cashback will be added on to your account as a seperate cashback amount once the original transaction has tracked.

If you cancel your order, the £5 bonus will be removed.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend.

We have been looking into the bonus to ensure it was all working as expected. We have noticed that the bonus is automatically tracking for all transactions ecept eBay but don't worry we are currently working to add these in. I can confirm we are working to add these in within the next couple of days and so don't worry that this is not on your account immediately.

If you have any queries either about this bonus or any transaction on your account our Customer Service Team are always there to help and you can get in touch with them via the 'Customer Care' section of your 'Account' by clicking 'Submit a Support Ticket'

I do hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Matt

Grocery cashback transactions, Tell-a-friend bonuses, sign up bonuses or any other form of incentivised transaction will not be eligible for the Cashback Earnings Boost on top.

Do you think that means - say - that the Groupon purchase wouldn't count as 8% is 'Exclusive OfferEnds Tomorrow'?

There's a £5 off £15 Just Eat voucher going round (VoucherCloud).

Hmmm.... I wonder if TCB would pay out if they were stacked... £20 - £5 (well £4.50) - TCB £5 - Cashback = £10 or so for £20 of goodies....

Find a restaurant that gives 20% off £15 or £20... and it'll be even cheaper

There are so many questions you could ask about the TCB site

e.g.
Avg Payment Speed
21 wks 3 days

yet at the same time

We last received a payment from this merchant during March 2016, for transactions in February 2016.

How does that work???

Probably because it says 'one of the retailers above' and there aren't any listed The post only 'assumes' that it covers everyone.

Incidentally, someone said that the bingo sign up offer would be included but if you read where it says about 'sign up bonuses & incentivised transactions' you'll see that it DOESN'T cover that.

Guys remember some merchants don't include delivery or even VAT on the purchase amount. Remember to account for this as the purchase amount declared to topcashback via the merchant has to be over £10

But figuring out which merchants exclude vat and which don't is still a mystery to me.

I believe eBay are fine. £10 spend will equal a £10 spend if that makes sense

no, didnt track, i opened a claim and TCB responded pretty quick to say that "i hadnt spent on the card"

New customers to Zeek get around £5 cashback on their first purchase.

So if you buy a £10 gift card at a discount (e.g. £9 if 10% off), then you're technically getting £10 worth of gift card for £4.

Gift cards are sold without VAT, so this also shouldn't be a concern.

This may have already been mentioned in the thread, but it's 5 pages and I'm in a rush. (Sorry if so)

Just a thought.
seaniboy
28 Jan 17 1 #190
No purchase should be removing VAT unless it is selling to a business. If you are denied your £5 TCB would need to confirm with VAT you met the £10 minimum with the retailer, this is a dodgy practice TCB needs to sort out with its companies to reporting back sales including VAT because it is a legal requirement and retailers can't opt out of it in sales or affiliates.

I hate tcb they are so confusing. under terms and conditions it say ''Your purchase amount should be £10 or more, this is the purchase amount reported back to TopCashback, some merchants may exclude VAT or delivery charges.''

but how do i chech that?? i want to boy from argos
moneyballs2
28 Jan 17 1 #193
Affiliate commission rules are different to the actual law on charging VAT, I believe. Any retailer is free to say they will only pay commission on the revenue that they themselves get to keep and register towards their profits (i.e. the price without the VAT - as that gets sent to the gov).

Some retailers do this because paying a 10% commission on a post-VAT sale of £120 costs them £12. In actual fact, that retailer can only keep £100 of the sale. So that £12 commission is, in fact, a 12% commission as far as the revenue they get to keep is concerned.

These are all part of the individual agreements the retailer makes with the cashback affiliate networks (ClickJunction/DoubleClick etc.), and outside the remit of HMRC.

However, I agree - It is **** practice that TCB/Quidco do not make it 100% transparently clear whether this is the case.

How much should i buy for
jadamso
28 Jan 17 #195
I don't think cashback applies to purchases made on children!

Seriously this shouldn't be too confusing. Trade purchases e.g. Staples will list vat separate, consumer purchases e.g. Argos won't. The only dodgy area for me would be if you're trying to purchase something for say £7 with £3 delivery. I wouldn't regard that as a £10 purchase.
dougrobbins78
28 Jan 17 #196
Doubt that will be allowed. The fact that it's from Asda grocery site means it will get classed as that regardless if you buy a grocery item or not

That was my point, if it is not stated per retailer TCB and it's retailers cannot do it, both parties are breaching a contract by means of a unfair contract, by hiding specific retailer term or not disclosing such term in TCB T&C that not all retailers partake and further you will be notified on specific retailers page.

It's not just TCB...more than a few do the same, someone is going to easily small claims court this unsavoury behaviour!

As a side note I got premium texts via Pay4It (the 4 mobile telcos own it), done all the complaints PayhonePlus or whatever the name - the Pay4It intermediary who billed me sent a PAYPAL text to collect a refund WITHOUT VAT!

We can't go in store and remove VAT without non EU passport, so why can retailers do it electronically through a affiliate program.

£10 is, like, 83% or so of £12. That would mean that (assuming the TCB retailers are reducing the VAT by an accurate amount) VAT is only 17% in this country.

Jonathan was right when he said that you'd have to spend £12.50 to ensure that you definitely have the purchase track at £10+ if the retailer excludes the VAT by 20%.

You (and Jonathan) are deducting 20% from the price including VAT, which is different to adding 20% to the price excluding VAT.

Eg. item is £10 ex VAT:

£10 + 20% = 10*1.2 = £12

£12 - 20% = 12*0.8 = £9.60

To get the price excluding VAT you should divide the price by 1.2.

Just my luck... I saw this offer advertised on a banner on the TCB site in the early hours of this morning bu got the error about how the offer could no longer be activated... so I went and made my eBay purchase anyway as I assumed the £5 offer had expired! I've activated it now, wonder if they'll still honour it as the purchase was made today! Doubt it somehow!

Good try though? What does that mean? I'm not a troll or something.

Yes, it has now been added onto the bottom of the original post about all the retailers but I went through it several times before I spotted that at the end, and I expect most others did too.

Re the bingo cashback thing - I never said you did ask it, this is what I was referring to

No it won't as it will track as 2 transactions. So to work one item must be more than £10. Also with eBay from my experience it normally takes a couple of day to track. So you will get the cashback plus the £5 but it may not track for a couple of days but will have today's date as transaction date so Will be ok.

It all depends on the seller. If it's a private seller then a purchase price of £10 or more should be fine. If it's a Buisiness and they are VAT registered it will be £10 + 20%
muffboy
28 Jan 17 #333
some tool has stated £12 is £9.60 ex vat!
£9.60 is a 20% reduction off the £12, completely different!

Ger73
28 Jan 17 #343
Okay so let me get this straight in my head

1. Ebay has to be £10 or more from a private seller
2. £10 minimum order total for one item
3. Multiple items in basket totalling £10 or more won't work

So better to buy from private seller not business seller
Is this correct?
victorhugo123
28 Jan 17 #344
Should the £5 bonus show up in the tracking straight away? I'm only getting the 3% with my tracked order
moneyballs2
28 Jan 17 2 #345
Based on what other's have said

1) If buying from a business seller, it has to be more than £12, as £2 of that £12 is VAT.
2) £10 minimum order per (private) seller. Can be multiple items.
3) Yes. If you have multiple sellers, but no single seller is selling more than £10 worth (or £12 for business), then it won't work.

bemad
28 Jan 17 #356
Both Superdrug and Marks and Spencer report excluding VAT.

Your transaction with these two needs to be at least £12 (£10 plus 20% VAT which is £2 making it £12).

If the calculation was done backwards then £12.50 (20% of which is £2.50) is the minimum spend, but VAT isn't calculated that way.

To err on the safe side £12.50 as a quote sounds fine though!

Cashback tracking can take up to a week...

Wait a couple days for it to track depending on merchant. If it doesn't, get a refund on your item ordered. Distance Selling Regulations allow a cooling off period

You could submit a missing claim with tcb if you prefer to get your £5 bonus and are certain you've met the t&cs

Despite popular belief, topcashback don't simply payout for no reason whatsoever. Often it's user error for not adhering to the (albeit convoluted) t&cs

im in the same ebay boat of pennies and not pounds but im guessing we just wait for it to catch up. i made sure to spend over 10 pounds without shipping and ebay tracked 10 nectar points.

ive read the t and c's and it says one individual purchase so im confident we are eligible if you did it as a basket etc.

if someone at TCB could confirm it would be great for the ebay lot.

Best wishes,
Matt

I went through TCB and booked some parking at Heathrow but it hasn't tracked as of yet.
Later, went through skyscanner and connected to lastminute and got cashback for lastminute and the £5 bonus (did look directly at lastminute first, close the page and then looked at skyscanner which was showing last minute as slightly cheaper than going direct).

I now know why , it's because in the 1st place I wanted to use Paypal as I can't be bothered to get off the sofa etc and Paypal minimum deposit is £20 but today I went down the credit card route and that is only £10 so I did it via quidco as it's £30 cashback in there and tracked in 10 minutes !

I've been had, spent £12.05 at Lego and it only tracked as £9.38. Someone tell me how Lego worked the VAT out on this as I figured spending £12.05 would have been around £10.04 + VAT. I even paid £3.95 postage to make the £1.05 gain!

Sub Total GBP 12.05
Shipping GBP 3.95
VAT GBP 2.67

4 Feb 17 #501
Ebay tracked ok, but still so sign of the £5. Bit miffed as I paid a bit extra for the item so it was more than a tenner.
cainer1
6 Feb 17 #502
what did you buy that was £12.05 ? all the prices i see on their website seems to end in 99p or 49p
and what did you mean by making a £1.05 gain?
if you ment you paid £3.95 to make the total bill £12.05 then you fail because you dont get cashback from delivery charges
snatch_master
6 Feb 17 #503
I placed a £12.05 order of Pick A Brick items. The postage was then £3.95, making the total £16.00. The £1.05 gain comes from my £5.00 free TCB minus the £3.95 postage I had to pay as I didn't need the bricks ASAP and could have easily added them to the £50+ orders I have placed since.

I took the assumption that if I spent £12.05, that would be made up of £10.04 + £2.01 VAT and therefore qualify me for the free £5.00 TCB regardless of the postage costs or VAT on the postage. I'm no accountant, maybe it's obvious, I just don't see why I did not qualify. Lego listed my order as £9.38 which looks incorrect.
cainer1
6 Feb 17 #504
they have charged you VAT on the purchase and the delivery charge (which is ok as delivery does have VAT)
then it looks like they have knocked both the Lego AND the delivery VAT amounts off the £12.05
id get onto TCB customer services and see what they say as it seems TCB have deducted VAT from a service they dont give cashback on (p&p / delivery)

so to look at it an easy way..
you buy something for £12.00 (£10 + VAT) and delivery is £12.00 (£10 + VAT) = £24.00 (£20 + £4 VAT)
TCB dont give cashback on VAT and delivery, so you would expect cashback on £10,
but TCB have only given you cashback against £8
which means they have knocked the total VAT bill (£4) off the original £12 (£10 + VAT) purchase price
it all seems a bit underhanded to me

6 Feb 17 #505
If you spent £12.05 on Lego, then you have qualified for the £5 bonus.
Put a claim in and advise of your purchase cost. Maybe send a copy of your invoice?

7 Feb 17 #506
mine never got tracked and its been over 7 days. Ive lodged a claim.

So much for the thank you from tcb. I always have to end up putting claims in with pretty much most or all of my purchases. Such a hassle.
Master_Yoda
8 Feb 17 #507
My ebay transaction never tracked despite doing everything correct and spending way more than the minimum required. Have been constantly messed around by their staff. A lot of hassle and no cashback at all. When trying to put in a claim manually, it doesn't even allow me to claim the £5 I am owed. Despite paying to be a plus member which is meant to have faster customer service response, their staff are purposely not even responding to my messages - amazing customer services.
bozo007
11 Feb 17 #508
TCB declined to pay the £5 even though the merchant has confirmed the transaction. Value is also not the problem as my spend was way above the limit. I have now raised a support ticket.

The latest reply on my on-going saga

thank you for getting back in touch with us.

Please do be aware that merchants won't generally pay cashback on delivery charges, so this amount would have been excluded and the VAT based on your purchase amount alone. Which based on your purchase amount would have been £2.41, then putting the purchase just under the £10 threshold for this cashback bonus.

This is also noted within the merchants terms and conditions;

**This merchant calculates cashback excluding VAT, delivery and any other charges.**

I'm sorry that this isn't a more positive response, but I hope this helps.

https://s15.postimg.org/9slercxfv/lego3.jpg

So this tracks as £9.38 from Lego, even though the order HAS to be £10.04 + VAT before postage and TCB just hide behind Lego's odd tracking and say it's not their fault.

Well the saga continues, this is the latest from TCB:

your delivery charges wouldn't have been accounted for on your purchase, so your purchase amount would have only been for £12.04. Minus the 20% VAT would then give a net purchase amount of £9.64, as delivery charges wouldn't be counted towards the reported amount that this merchant would pass on to us. So your purchase amount would only be reported based on your spend of £12.05 and then the 20% VAT is deducted from that only leaving you with the amount that is under the £10 minimum spend as noted in the offers terms and conditions;

Can someone clear something up for me. To calculate the VAT, you take the purchase amount and multiple by 0.8, as in 80% of the total price. That does not seem right to me. Surely to calculate the VAT you take the purchase price and divide by 1.2. When I put MY figures into every single online VAT calculator I can find, it comes out saying £10.04 + VAT = £12.05. Am I going nuts, or are TCB just complete and utter morons?

Having wasted over an hour on this so far, if I am in the right, do I have a case to invoice TCB for my time?
snatch_master
22 Feb 17 #523
They've now asked me to submit a claim regarding the on-going Lego cashback saga. They've won, they can keep their £5 I don't have time to fill in all that form and well they know it. I've strongly advised Lego to think about using TCB as they are clearly dishonest, very bad at maths and essentially losing Lego business as the odd time I did purchase form Lego it was swayed by the TCB.
snatch_master
22 Feb 17 #524
Did someone say TCB reps read this thread? I guess they don't care either, probably the same person sat enjoying a pint on my £5 after fobbing me off for the best part of a month.
backinstock
22 Feb 17 #525
I personally don't thing it's a TCB issue, rather that the tracking network has messed it up. It would appear the issue is regarding the VAT on delivery and perhaps they've deducted that twice!
I agree, a lot of work for £5. But, you are entitled to it.
snatch_master
22 Feb 17 1 #526
Well the claim is in, just love the comments "it might take a few months before we have any news, but please be assured that we will be in touch as soon as we can."

So someone will look at the claim, do the math that the person in my support ticket did and just reject it. Three months later. Seriously what is the point of this joke site, I agree that TCB are not to blame for the poor tracking but it really is simple to observe what has happened and just give me my £5, especially as the bonus was form them and not the retailer.
thewongwing101
23 Feb 17 #527
Thank you thought I had messed this up bought something for £9.99 and a penny sim on ebay
and it tracked at £9.99 put a claim in for £10
and it all went through fine last week
bayhabourbutcher
23 Feb 17 #528
my £5 bonus has paid out - maplin purchase I made only tracked but not payable yet

I rarely use cashback sites nowadays as the time taken up chasing transactions often outweighs any potential cashback - I still try to use them for larger amounts such as switching utility suppliers as any chasing up becomes worth it

a few years back TCB also took about £200 from me when they suddenly closed my account - it was my own fault as I self referred a second account which gives them the right to close an account according to their T&C (I hadnt read them at the time & naively thought they would just decline the referral credit) - the referral credit was fairly trivial compared to the £200 I lost & lesson learned
