I love that website called google
Where do cashews come from?
The fruit pictured above is a cashew apple, hanging at the bottom of it is a cashew nut. The nut is, botanically, the seed of the fruit and each apple will only produce one. Each nut has to be manually collected from each fruit and then set to dry.
However, once dried, much care has to be taken in shelling the seeds. Stored in a honeycomb structure between the soft outer shell and the hard nut there is a liquid called CNSL (cashew nutshell liquid) which contains anacardic acids which cause severe skin rashes. Therefore, before shelling the seeds have to be roasted, so that the toxins are destroyed. This must be done outside, as the process releases gases that can severely irritate the lungs, sometimes fatally.
The nuts are then opened up and graded. This labour-intensive process, coupled with a short supply, is why cashews are much more expensive that peanuts.

I'd say it's national, but depends on your store by how much it's reduced. If you look it up on hukd people have posted this a few weeks ago @ the price of 50p. In other stores it's 1.25, etc. Might be worth double checking the price in your local.
PS. Remember, the red packaging ones (Christmas ones).

I have never eaten the cashew, but it sounds very good. So I can be imagining what it would taste like, if you were to compare it to a nut I might have eaten what is it a bit like?
Many thanks being to you in advances

They are a slightly stronger tasting than a peanut yet with a softer texture. Almost creamy...almost. very moreish imo.

Comparing the taste of different nuts is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. They're all different. I'd say creamy is the key word for cashews particularly if they are lightly roasted/salted.

You can store nuts in the freezer. They don't turn rancid this way therefore lasts longer. Can also toast them in the oven prior to eating. 180 Celcius / gas mark 4 around 10-15 minutes, brings out the flavour more

Yesterday I had 4 ounces of these and MyFitnessPal said they were 626 calories, through all my gym effort and calorie counting out of the window. I will definitely not be buying cashews again, heat added though.
Sorry, threw not through.

its a different kind of fat a healthy one, not like processed, refined and fast foods
nuts are harder to digest and take longer thus keeping you fuller for longer, meaning less snacking/eating especialy in between meals and a good option as a snack in between meals

At least those 626 calories came from a healthy source - way better than eating a donut or something! This price is amazing, hope my local store has some.

muddassarsardar to Kulaak
7 Jan 171#37
er would u take a guess. mine is they are more difficult to cultivate or are less readily available then peanuts. peanuts or probably the cheapest buts available maybe the question should be why are peanuts cheaper than the rest of the nuts family such as almonds walnuts brazalin nuts etc.

If they are roasted they may well contain trans fats(although thankfully these are becoming less common) which are bad for you. Nothing wrong with food deep fried in natural oils in a balanced diet.

Because when you ingest over 2000 calories of good fats your body automatically refuses to store any of it as fat, right?
topla
7 Jan 171#45
it is meant as a snack or light portion
answer to your question essential yes, as this type of fat is harder to breakdown, keeping the digestive system busy and sending message to the brain that your not hungry, thus you eat less or are prone to not binge snack etc.
as it harder to breakdown you only absorb a small amount of fat when compared to bad fats, and the rest gets excreted
there was a segment in bbc doc about it
