anyone have any recommendations out of those, in particular for films that show off the format (but ideally are at least decent to watch too)...

Was thinking of getting San Andreas for one of them, as I really enjoyed the film just not sure on the second one....

For picture it has to be Lucy but it's only an ok film at best.

Therefore out of the choice for 2 for £30 the best will be Couching Tiger and Spider-Man 2.

Thanks. Have seen mad max on normal bluray. Really enjoyed the movie but heard that the 4k version doesnt add much over the normal bluray. Still tempting though just for the film...

Bear in mind a lot of these films have been mastered from 2k versions so San andreas as an example is probably not worth buying over normal bluray, same for two of the three bourne films just released as 4k etc.

Lucy is a great transfer but cr*p film, same with Mad Max (in my opinion anyway!) basically a lot of the current 4K releases are not massively better than the blue ray but £10+ more expensive so use the review site to double check before spending money even with a deal like this.

Also jbhifi in Australia have some cracking 4k offers and even with postage can work out around £12 per disc so cheaper than this deal

They are probably matching HMV who have had 2 for £30 for weeks. Quite a few titles on offer.

Don't you need a 4k player to play these 4k disc? Didn't think there was any out yet, but If so, what player do you recommend?

Yes they do need a new player. Of course they are available or it would be pointless having discs no one could watch. That said i can understand people being somewhat confused as it really hasnt seen much of a marketing push and i think only a few players exist right now.

My choice was the xbox one s (which is a console that doubles as a uhd bluray player). Obvious choice for me as im a gamer but would recommend for even none gamers as it costs no more than a dedicated player yet can do so much more e.g. play games and a huge range of apps including all catch up tv and 4k netflix, youtube and amazon...

Mad Max is the only one i'd buy, the rest are either bad or too old to spend £15-£20 on an upscale.

The TV makers are slowly removing 3D from their sets. It's a pity but I hated 3D on TVs but once I tried it on a projector I loved it as it's so good. Better than in the cinema. Everest in 3D on a projector really makes the film come to life with all the extra depth.

Does anyone have any experience/advice on how these play on a PS4 Pro? I know it doesn't have a 4k drive in it (nice work Sony), but does it upscale to a reasonable degree? Or would I be as well just getting Bluray.

Thanks to Sony cheaping out on the Bluray drive, UHD blurays won't play at all in the PS4 Pro, not that they won't be 4K it just won't read the disc as it doesn't have the right type of laser in there, so sadly it can't be patched in later, the only hope is a revised model in future if the format proves sufficiently popular. Of course as these have a regular Bluray in the pack too you could play that in the PS4 Pro but seems a bit pointless buying UHD blurays just to watch the regular bluray unless you just want to be future proofed for when you do get a player...

i do find this topic funny as we have people defending UHD who said blu ray was a dying format and people who defended blu ray saying UFD is a dying format!

I think physical media in general could be considered a dying format and I must admit the convenience factor of Netflix etc is extremely appealing. If Netflix had a higher quality UHD setting that pushed the data rate up to say 50mbps I probably wouldn't buy UHD Blurays at all, though they wouldn't as you would need cable or top tier fibre so only a small proportion culd watch.

So I think for those that want to watch films in 4K at the highest quality possible UHD Blurays have a niche and purpose and I think the premium packaging (they nearly all have slip cases and are triple play) does give them a nice collectable feeling for those into that.

So yes, 4K Bluray will probably remain very niche, but will still likely sell enough to carry on as a format, just not with the level of success VHS and DVD enjoyed in their heydays.....

oh wow, I just assumed the disc would work!
That yes, may not display native 4k, but WOULD play in a kinda upscaled, HDR kinda way (which is nice in itself).

As someone's already mentioned 'Sicario' is supposed to be fantastic in 4K as is 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' (reportedly)

I got a 4k TV over Christmas and bought Sicario but wish I hadn't Personally I couldn't see anything that special on picture quality, and the film is seriously dull! Good deal by the way, have voted hot.
