I blew up a touch lamp using an energy saving bulb.Does anyone know if a dimmable LED can be used as info is sketchy and says you shouldn't use anything but normal build including halogen

I got these yesterday. Very nice and they say you HAVE to use dimmable bulbs. It doesn't matter whether they are LED or not.

sorry bulb I meant the fitting is SES/E14 small Edison screw if that helps but be careful as you may damage the thyristor

Can't get either link to page only to Tesco's mainwebpage
Does anyone know if just putting in a normal NON dimmable bulb to test the lamp out would damage it? Or does it mean to not use non dimmable bulbs for a long time - continuously.

you any links to suitable bulbs mate  amazon or tesco or somewhere that delivers please  or are they cheap and cheerful anywhere to get like sainsburys/b&q etc
If you can buy some cheap normal / halogen bulbs from Poundland or somewhere else (I have put R50) would be best way to see if the Led bulbs are the problem or the lamp. Then again , whilst looking for bulbs myself I found this:
Q 6: Do LEDs work in touch lamps?
A: No. Unless the lamp has trailing edge dimming. It would be best to consult the manufacturer.
and this
DO I NEED TO USE A SPECIAL DIMMER FOR LED DIMMABLE BULBS?
Yes. LEDs use very little power compared to halogen bulbs. While this is good news for your electricity bills, it also means they will not work properly with your existing dimmer switches and may lead to a shortened bulb life, a lower light output and a buzzing sound. For an optimum performance, you must use trailing edge dimmers which have lower minimum loads and are designed to be used with LED bulbs.
So this makes me think that best way is to use the halogen option for touch lamps...
