This phone is perfect for me (spec wise). It comes with dual sim (3 card slots), FHD, decent camera, 3100 mAh battery, NFC, gyro and compass. The 7 things I lookout for in a phone (all the phones I look at always got 1 or 2 things missing).
I think the SD801 chipset is still capable. http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_nubia_z7_max-6491.php
I would have bought this if I didn't just buy a Xiaomi Redmi Note Pro 3.

i have found this phone to be picky with sims. I had a nano sim with a micro sim adapter and the sim kept "disappearing". I have changed the adapter and it seems more stable. @shimmy1 Ask virgin for another micro sim

No don't have to do that. Think that's only if you're going from android 4.
The only issue I had was rooting the phone. TowelRoot didn't seem to work, so ended up using Kingo Root, which did work, but also installs loads of crap onto the phone and also PC, so I'd avoid that method if possible.
I have now tried a couple out. First I went for Resurrection Remix v5.8.0, which is android 7, but found that wifi was dropping out all the time, and there were also issues with status bar icons vanishing.
Next I tried MoKee 6.0.1, which is android 6, and I have been running this for around 4 days now. So far everything seems to work fine, but there's some stuff I haven't tested, like second sim and bluetooth.
Ah OK. Good to know. Did you have to do some operation to change the partition to a merged one? I keep reading about that but not sure if u need to...

Anyone tried another ROM yet?
Mines come with 5.1.1 on it and it's snappy fast. It's true that an old flagship like this still beats a lot of new mid range phones.
However I am intrigued by some ROMs on needrom but the community for this phone seems pretty dead. Not much conversation on XDA.

I received it yesterday and it came ruining android 5.1.1 Yeah I see there are a few options ROM wise, with some issues raised in the comments section on needrom.
Hoping to get some feedback from someone that's tried some out, but might just have to try them out for myself!
I ordered this and it says it ships with Android 5.0. Can anyone recommend a rom please?

You can't get a new s5 for that kind of price but used ones do pop up on ebay, there is a dual sim version of the s5 or you could use a dual sim adapter. It's a good deal for £82 but you might get stung for import duty. Custom rom support is usually really good on Sammys, I still have an old s2 and it can run lolipop and marshmallow. I'm not knocking this deal, I guess it depends on how up to date and secure you want the software, one downside is that cyanogenmod will stop soon so the future is unclear.
bazray
30 Dec 16#54
Looks like it should perform similar to the Galaxy s5 as it has same chip etc... slightly lower spec camera and no fingerprint reader good price for new though. If you want more custom rom support and things like spare battery, mhl, water resistant, covers etc... then a used s5 for similar money might be more suitable. Voted hot as this is for brand new.

Infrared doesn't work. The phone has NFC but I haven't tried it...
It's a lovely phone, unbeatable specs for this price. Beautiful screen, gorilla glass (real gorilla glass not like some phones which say they have but haven't), fast CPU, decent memory, 2 SIM slots and a micro-sd card slot.

ROM = Read Only Memory.
32Gb of ROM would not be very useful to store apps, picture and music.
Currently have a Samsung Note 3, is this an upgrade on the note 3?
rasdonny to doggboy10
28 Dec 16#45
apart from RAM, battery mAh and the same primary camera, this phone will be an upgrade in almost all other respect in terms of production date, Chipset, CPU, dual-sim etc
but this opinion will probably indeed start an argument with those who think more RAM makes a phone better all round
I am not voda so wont argue this point too strongly, but where you fail in your comment is the use of the word 'if', you might as well say if vodafone has poor coverage on any bands or if any network other than vodafone has poor coverage on any band then this or any phone wont work on that network.
sam_of_london
28 Dec 16#41
If Vodafone has poor coverage in 2600 band, this phone will not work at 4g but only 2g or 3g. Having all UK bands means better coverage and full data speed due to 4g carrier aggregation.
clairew123
28 Dec 16#39
little baffled by all the technical speak, would this work with a vodafone sim please and 4g enabled?
So, Yes, shld work with a vodafone sim and 4g enabled
and will also work on 3G as well as it works on 2100Mhz (Band 1) for 3G and vodafone uses 2100Mhz (Band 1) for 3G.

one more plus for this ZTE is that it has 'infrared port', which the Moto G4 doesnt.
but as you said - only the clued up ppl on here know a 'good phone' overall when they see it and not just go like drones for Iphones or for Android phones with 4GB RAM which lacks other more important specs some of 'us' are looking for.

Your're talking about the Moto G4 2GB/16GB dual sim 2016 model right? (Which I have owned) This ZTE phone is the better phone. It out spec's the Moto G4 in all departments apart from maybe the camera (Moto G4 camera I really rated). The Moto G4 flaws were that it didn't have no NFC, gyro, or compass. The SD801 aces the SD617 in performance, and because the ZTE has the SD801 it can record in 4K something the Moto G4 can't do.
If the Moto G4 dual sim version was this price on this site it would go 2000°+ hot. The Moto G4 is a lower spec phone, your're basically paying more for less. I would even chose this ZTE phone over the Moto G4 Plus (you don't need 4GB RAM in a phone, only the clued up people on here know that).
Whatever the outcome it's still a worse phone for more money.

How is it more high risk? Its an item over £100 on credit, you've got them by the **** for several years. Very have to comply with UK and EU law, this shower of **** don't.
GAVINLEWISHUKD
27 Dec 161#32
Ok found the deal where you have to take out a credit account with very. That's more high risk than a phone breaking. Besides it's a lower spec.
But on the plus side I found the more equivalent speced 'plus' at £189. But for that money I could get two Z7's (as a spare incase one breaks or is stolen or lost) and a spare screen (incase one gets broken)
That would cover more bases.

If this was amazon then not a bad price. Banggood - no thanks. If it breaks in 4 months you're £90 down. Plus you could get stung by customs. Save yourself the headache and get a moto g4 for £20 more.
GAVINLEWISHUKD to jaydeeuk1
26 Dec 162#29
Where is the Moto 4g £103? Besides to get the same 32gb you would have to get the 'plus' version at a eye watering £229!
But you would be more down if you drop your Moto G or its stolen or lost which is probably just as likely as it breaking down.
You pay a little less for a better phone and take the little risk of it going wrong. Life, all about choices.

Does it support the 4G band of Three network please?
Not sure if this was supported by Cyanogenmod but it's all up in the air now with what happened a few days ago. Probably won't be supported by its successor, Lineage. If you are especially tight and only use your phone for the most basic stuff then this thing will be fine for you, but if you can stretch it just a little bit then I absolutely recommend the Redmi Note 3 Pro. Much better custom ROM support and all round better phone for just a bit more money.
