Yes i think band 3 (B3) is 1800mhz which 3 runs 4g on
if this has had band 20 would have been my first choice. instead went for the note 3. will be a cracking phone. the redmi 3 is awesome and this just builds on it

with the 3, first came developer ROM, then a xiaomi ROM, then global.
flashing the xiaomi ROM required the bootloader unlocked after an easy flash of the developer ROM (done through their updater app).
so not the easiest. but someone a bit tech savvy should be OK to do it.

I've just bought note 4 pro and love it. thinking of buying this for my mum for xmas. only thing putting me off is it not having global rom with updates.
When this becomes available does anyone know whether its easy to load?
thanks

So many redmis.
How does this compare the the 3s prime that has band 20 and glabal6rom and was posted for 108 late week.
Also the note 3 pro global version with band 20 was posted for around 125 not too long ago either

HOW DO THEY MAKE PROFFIT AT THESE PRICES??
LG said they made 1p per top of the range smart phone not long back, these guys are like 200-300 cheaper with same if not better specs

Wikipedia (cough) says that they don't make a profit.
Apparently the aim is to distribute hardware at cost price, and make money from software and services.
They don't seem to be directly owned by the Chinese state, which might be considered a bonus

How does something like this compare to a more mainstream smart phone like the Samsung s6 (for example) - this seems really quite cheap. I guess a more relevant question for me would be how would an s6 user generally find moving to a phone like this.
Thanks.

I Was using a cheap chinese phone not long ago, its build quallity was not great, and the screen glass was not tempered, so the screen cracked really easilly , however it was still usable...
the phone its self was very fast and more responsive than the galaxy s6 (which was the next phone i brought), i hated the s6 so much i sold it and brought an LG G4 Second hand.
over all, if you get a decent Chinese phone i doubt much can go wrong, where as if you cheap out like i did (phone cost just £38)

The Samsung S6 is/was a high end phone, every component was top notch. This is a budget smartphone that's trying to give you the same experience. The camera isn't as as good, it won't be as zippy when playing hardcore games, the software updates won't come in, but other than that, you're getting a very good phone for the money. One thing about the Xiaomi brand that you can trust is the build quality, always metal
RiverDragon8 to charlie71
14 Dec 161#32
You can configure the phone to how you like. If you wanted to have it like the S6 then that's up to you. After the latest update to MIUI 8.1 I think it's pretty much the same as other Android phones I've had in the passed.

You are wrong when it comes to software upgrades. Xiaomi updates their phone's OS with security patches and new features all the time. My Redmi Note 2(released mid-2015) received another update yesterday.

14 Dec 16#34
Xiaomi tends to use a global ROM update for non chinese sales now - so you shouldn't have any issues with updates etc.. They are the 3rd biggest phone manufacturer in the world so their products must be ok.
The Redmi's look like great phones for very little money. Snapdragon cpu's are really good. I reckon the camera won't be as good as high end manufacturers but I never really got the obsession with camera quality - if I want to take great photos I'll buy a good DSLR.
I've had Cubot phones in the past and been really pleased with them. Basic phones with reasonable specs for under £100.

I bought Mi5 Pro (4gb/128gb/2.15 quad core) last Thursday on AliExpress from Hong Kong Goldway shop. £275 for White ceramic Mi5, with 1 year global replacement warranty, express shipping (S.F. Express shipping - seller claims no custom's tax. The phone actually went to France first). The phone was in my hands in 6 days after placing the order. +8% cashback, so ended up paying £250. I'd rather have this for £250 and get a new one in a couple years than spend £1500 on an iphone 5

One of the more interesting things about the missing Band 20 is the mhz - 800mhz - the lower the mhz connection the faster and more stable it is, but it doesn't reach as far. So within a city 800mhz gives a faster and more stable connection than, say, 1800mhz. BUT 1800mhz has a wider range, hence giving 4G support, albeit at lower speeds, for a greater distance. You'll invariably find that the 800mhz bands aren't available in rural areas anyway so having it missing wouldn't be such a hardship, but in the cities it would be, and often there would be no 1800mhz/2600mhz/etc support because of that.
Consequently if you live in a built-up area with a good 4G, you may well be connected to band 20. Rurally it's less likely. So there's a chance you could get 4G rurally whilst not getting in in the city. Food for thought eh?
Tafkawac
15 Dec 16#52
But nice phone for the money - Heat!
badboyofrock
15 Dec 162#53
You've got it the wrong way round. 800mhz has less capacity to carry data, but can easily travel longer distances and penetrate buildings etc. 1800/2600 carry more data at higher speeds but over shorter distances. This is what you'll find in towns and cities. 2600 is what EE use for their 4G+ double speed service. 800mhz is the band you'll want to find in rural areas.
I had a Redmi 3 previously. I had many issues with playstore will not download apps. Tried many different foruma and advice but still didn't work.
At the end I was fed up luckily the seller accepted the return of the phone without any problems.
Anyone else had playstore issue with this phone?
doncoop
17 Dec 16#58
what ROM and how you got the play store on there will make a difference. I had issues with the redmi 3 when I just side loaded the play store and the other apps needed like play services etc. but that was setting it up.
once those apps had time to update and configure then they worked fine, just the initial set up was a pain.
once the xiaomi ROM came out and I flashed that, not a problem.

Anyone looking for a decent phone. I've just got the ee deal on the huawei p9 lite and I'm amazed by how good it is. It's a replacement for the flagship android HTC 10 which broke and I'm honestly finding it a better phone. Bargain for £140. Super snappy and responsive. If it lasts I can't see myself spending silly money on a phone again.

the p9 is a very good phone and theae xiaomi redmi 4 and note 3 are very similar.
with the p9 lite you'll get a slightly better camera and warranty.
these tend to get you a bigger ROM and battery. being a tech junky I'd much rather buy a new £150 each year and keep a decent SIM only monthly cost rather than thousands for one top phone over 2 years.
