Just been to Staples at Greenbridge in Swindon to pick up a Hard Drive and took a WD My Passport Ultra 2tb Hard Drive off the shelf. It stated £74.99 on line and on the shelf ticket, but actually went through the till at £59.99 so this looks like an In Store only deal. This link on this tread takes you to the online deal for the specs, and which is showing at the more expensive price.
Being the Ultra model this seems to have automatic backup software and 256-bit AES hardware encryption and is USB3. Available in Black, White, Blue and a Reddish colour from what was on the shelf and there were quite a few left.
My first deal, so hope I've submitted it right :sunglasses:
Not sure if this is nationwide, but may help someone to back up their new Xmas present

Staples said last month it would sell its UK retail business and operations to Hilco Capital, which invests in distressed companies. Not sure what impact that will have in the long run. Staples do great deals every now and then but are usually expensive for most stuff.

Nice first deal you've posted, but why are you buying so many portable external HDDs?

I understand from conversations with staff that Hilco are going to rebrand the offline stores and Staples online will be a separate business.

I`m amazed they have survived so long, every one I go in always is almost empty of customers, their prices are too high, the staff are always busy with something else and disinterested

I can confirm the 2tb drive has been reduced to£59.99 at the Edinburgh Hermiston Gait store. The reduced price was displayed on the ticket.

Nice deal. I've been looking at recertified drives direct from WD, and even they are marginally more expensive then these. Have some heat!

Why would you buy a recertified drive. limited guarantee. think 6 months when for sake of a few extra £ 's you can get a brand new one with full warranty. memories priceless abd unreplicatable.

Recertified drives are tested to the n'th degree and are actually more reliable than a new one. You're 3 year warranty is worth jack if the unit fails and you've lost everything in any case..

I got the last 2TB in the Leeds store yesterday, but they had 3 1TB left at £43

I took one of these on a 10,000 mile motorcycle trip around South America, with a lot of off road riding and a few crashes. Still going strong. Saying that, I didn't pay much more than the £59.99 they are going for now, and I bought it over a year ago.

I bought mine in the Argos deal on 30-11-2014 more than 2 years ago. It was £59.99p plus I received a £10 Argos voucher for spending over £50. Still have that drive yet and it's working perfectly.
I still have the receipt.

I've got six of these and a couple of 4tb MyBooks, all recertified, and have never had even the hint of a problem with them in 2 years. Maybe I've been lucky, but I took the gamble and they've proved to be great value.

Used to work for staples (awful employers btw) - the star next to the item name denotes discontinued stock so be aware not all stores will have a lot of these. Annoyingly each colour will have a different sku code as well so asking for a stock check will only have them check for that one colour.

I've just ordered 2x 2Tb recertified WD's direct from them for £113.98 - £61.99 each, and then £10 off the total for purchases over £100 (discount code WDSTORECPN at checkout. I was amazed that it still works as it's four years old!!). This is the best deal I've seen in some time for drives like this. Of course you'd have to be happy with the whole recertified idea, but I've never had any problems with them.

When it comes to Mechanical (Moving Parts) Hard Drives, I prefer new myself ...
ONLY an SSD (Non-Moving Parts) Hard Drive, would I dare to buy in a quote/unquote "Refurbished" state (though not ventured down such a route as yet really ... )
New for me too I think?.

Curry's eBay has the 2TB WD My Passport Ultra Exclusive Edition drives for £72.99, difference being 5 year warranty instead of 3, if that's of any use to some. Might get one of those as a backup drive.

I'm looking for a USB 3.0 Portable HDD to use with my new Xbox One S/EA Access. Has anyone managed to track one of the 2TB Drive down on Merseyside in the last few days?
I've had a look at recent Hot UK Deals but the only other one I can find for a similar price is a Seagate one from Argos for £62.99. That deal currently sits at -140 as it appears it was available on Black Friday for £45. I didn't have my Xbox One then so missed it.
I have some vouchers I could use towards the Seagate Drive from Argos & thought it looked like a good price for a none refurb on the High Street. The same/similar drive is £70+ elsewhere.
I’ve reserved a 2TB Seagate for collection tomorrow from a local Argos but would appreciate any alternative suggestions from the community before I make my purchase.
Thanks
