Amazing.
Can't believe they let me leave back in August, refusing to knock a penny off the £32.50/month price for 50Mb broadband. Now they're practically giving it away. I'd have been happy with just the broadband for £25.
Got to suffer a year of BT's crap speeds now.

I went for the broadband only option at 18 a month with only a 12 month contract rather then 18, used the £50 promo code which worked and i am now paying £13.84 a month for 50mb broadband, bargain!

Oh dear. Told them I was leaving in Black Friday weekend, they rang back the following two week days and dropped my monthly by over 50% for the 200mb, free weekend calls & XL tv bundle. All for £2.50 more than what you paid for your 50mb. Crazy

Does an engineer have to visit your home to install this? Currently, we have VM broadband and phone. We have an 'NTL' box attached to the wall that has a 2-way splitter. One of these cables goes to the router and the other is attached to nothing. Presumably we just stick the other end of the cable into the Tivo box and we're good to go? An upgraded SuperHub would be useful, I think we still have the 2nd gen.

yeah, Virgin shady. engineers for months said my service will improve. then customer services say oh no it's going to be slow speeds for another year. over sell their product knowingly, and deny it until your a customer. be l lucky to get 10% of your speeds in the evening in congested areas.

Tivo box is utter rubbish, and Virgin staff are told to tell people its slow because there so much on it, but that's not the reason.
When it was designed Virgin decided to save costs by using a pared down processor which was fine at the time, but now just isn't up to the job.
Slow isn't the right description. Over a minute to wake up 5 - 10 seconds to react to a button push, and worst of all it's incredibly power hungry. There is a way to reduce this on the net by stopping it constantly spinning the disc in standby even when it's not programmed to record anything.
Worse than all that is the vile BBC decided that all HD content has to be encrypted so if you can buy a Tivo box from overseas which will work with the Virgin network then you con't have the encryption issue. (This is not legal though!).

If VM install a socket in the lounge for TV, and one elsewhere for broadband .... I know the cable sockets look the same, but are they functionally interchangeable - ie the broadband router could be plugged in either in the lounge socket or the original socket?
Am really only interested in broadband solus, but have no cable currently and am thinking it is best to go for this to get a full installation out of the way, once, and for free. Then I'd have real flexibility on where to place the router.
bryan1979 to gwapenut
10 Dec 16#25
That's right, I have one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Both can be used for both TV and broadband, they just add a splitter to the end of the cable if you have both in one room.

What I ordered specifically said this in the confirmation email, as well as in the ordering process:
You've got our Player Bundle
(12 month contract unless specified)
Also, the installation fee is specifically stated as free.
I think either the deal is not available in your area, or you're looking at something else?
Gentle_Giant
10 Dec 16#16
Prices may change at any time during the contract.
Minimum term applies to your cable service, check basket for details
There is no mention of contract length until you have given all your details, so someone who has signed up - can they confirm you are not tied in for longer than 12 months??
(No point entering my details, we cannot get it here).
Also missed out this bit from the small print
Installation: An engineer installation fee applies (starting from £40 for standard install).
That pretty much wipes out the cash back, so back to a fraction over £20 p/m for the first 12 months.

I will probably give them a call over the weekend. Need to speak to my current provider first to see what they will do for me next year. Also noticed that quidco are offering £40 cashback on the player bundle but the quidco link takes you to the player bundle at £29.
I already had the player bundle in my basket from the original link posted on here and it was still showing in my basket when I clicked through on the quidco link! Don't know if it would be declined or not if I purchase using the quidco link?

Just had a look at this deal. Comes up at £20 for me and promo code works. Sadly, I can't find any way of adding anytime calls so it is tying me to just weekend calls which is no good for me.

Maybe it is location dependant. That said, £23 is still less than the default £29 a month via the usual link. Plus, you can still try the promo code to get the £50 credit.

9 Dec 161#2
That's OK - I posted it on here just to see if anyone could find any holes in what I think is a good deal! I just ordered it, and there's always a cooling off period, so if there is a catch there's always time to change!
This one only appeared to me when I entered my postcode. Otherwise, the bundle was about £9 per month more expensive. I thought initially that the link was tied to my postcode, but it's generic. Turns out the URL is just slightly diffferent to what you see for the same bundle without first entering postcode.
