To start things off this is a list of all the great value DSLR's that are currently available on MPB photographic starting from £59.00 ranging in excess of£2,000.
These are all of the Nikon DSLR's that are available, some of them are good deals, others are relatively poor, though this does give you an overview of what is available.
Nikon D100, £59.00, APS-C, By no means the best camera around though still capable, and for a fully working Nikon DSLR you can't go wrong, 6.1MP
Nikon D40, £74.00, APS-C, Good small budget camera, 6.1MP
Nikon D50, £74.00, APS-C, I would avoid this camera, not the best, 6.1MP
Nikon D80, £109.00, APS-C, Good but not great, worth the extra to upgrade to the D90, 10.2MP
Nikon D5000, £124.00, APS-C, Small compact with a flip screen, 12.3MP
Nikon D90, £159.00, APS-C, First DSLR ever to have HD video though and surprisingly good low light performance but shooting raw is a must with this as the files it produces i found were quite flat, 12.3MP
Nikon D300, £159.00, APS-C, 6fps 51 point auto-focusing system, similar to that in the D4, and great ergonomics making it a camera you will never want to let go of, though the low light performance is poor, 12.3MP
Nikon D3300, £184.00, APS-C, Good for virtually everything accept for sports, 24.2MP
Nikon D7000, £259.00, APS-C, Good all rounder 39 point focusing system, not the best focusing system, 16.2MP
Nikon D300s, £319.00, APS-C, 7fps 51 point focusing system, very similar to the D300 but has video and slightly better low light performance, 12.3MP
Nikon D5500, £424.00, APS-C, Not worth the money for the flip screen and WIFI over the D3300, 24.2MP
Nikon D7100, £479.00, APS-C, A great camera that really is all anyone needs, 6fps, 51 point focusing system, 1080p 60fps video, but the catch with this is the buffer that makes it very difficult to use for sports, 24.2MP
Nikon D3, £549.00, Full Frame, Great value for a camera that will never be recreated due to the expensive manufacturing process, great low light performance, 51 point focusing system, 9fps, this is definitely the best value camera here, 12.1MP
Nikon D700, £569.00, Full Frame, Produces the best files straight out of camera and is a great camera for portraiture, though the buffer is lacking for sports, 12.1MP
Nikon D600, £634.00, Full Frame, Good but the focusing system is something is out of a nightmare, a 39 point system that doesn't fill the prism. 24.2MP
Nikon D3s, £849.00, Full Frame, my personal favourite, as i own one, and i can say that it is worth every penny, great low light, up to 11fps, 51 point focusing system
Nikon D610, £859.00, Full Frame, Much the same as the D600, but without the oil sensor problem that will not hinder these cameras as they have done over 10,000 shutter releases, 24.2MP
Nikon D800, £1,149.00, Full Frame, Great landscape camera, but be careful that your PC will be able to process those massive raw files, 36.3MP
Nikon D750, £1,189.00, Full Frame, a Swiss army knife, can do everything but is not exceptional in one area is very good in every area, 24.2MP
Nikon D3x, £1,649.00, Full Frame, Not worth the money, just get the D750 or the D600, 24.2MP
Nikon D810, £1,799.00, Full Frame, Same as the D800 just with the low pass and anti aliasing filter removed, 36.3MP
Nikon D4, £2,079.00, Full Frame, the Camera that I dream of, if you are looking to buy this it needs no introduction, 16.2MP
Nikon D4s, £3,099.00, Full Frame, Same as the D4, but even more
Now these are by no means facts it is just my opinion, but it is based on research and having used a lot of Nikon DSLR's in my time. If i was to buy one of these at these prices it would have to be the D3, as it is the best value, but my wallet does not allow this at the moment. Hope this helps someone out coming up to Christmas.
All of these prices you will have to add £4.95 to for postage.

Not clear how this is a deal, retailer has been around for years and sells second hand cameras and lenses, prices are normal prices on the website, am I missing something?

I thought that said 'used knickers'!
Then I noticed the price and realised I had made an error.
That would have been far too cheap. :stuck_out_tongue:

Check the item descriptions.....
D3 = Condition: Heavily Used
This camera body is in a heavily used condition with significant signs of use. There are significant marks and scuffs to the paintwork on the body, and several shiny surfaces. The rear LCD screen has some marks. The sensor is free of scratches. The flash mount is heavily used. All rubber grips and covers are present but show significant wear and may be coming away in places. Functionally this camera is in fully working order.

Voted hot for the detailed info you added, good prices and MPB's second to non customer service and warranty!

The D3 can cope with that level of abuse, my D3S has in excess of 600,000 on the shutter and is still going strong, and is built out of worse materials.

The life expectancy of a d3 shutter is 300k actuations. Some may reach that and more, others won't. Factor in the camera condition is very poor and add 250-300 for a shutter and that 550 isn't as cheap as it seems.

Why post this? Prices are well above normal rates for used gear and this isn't a deal just their normal prices. Maybe the o.p works at mpb

I don't work for MPB, some of the prices are above average, other are bellow, it is simply to outline the stocks and the prices that MPB have to offer. Also I know the normal rates for used gear much better then most and I can assure you that it is not way above, especially considering the current market, which seems to be increasing the value of cameras such as the D300 while cameras like the D600 seem to loosing value.

Thinking of getting one to go alongside my D3S, but I think that a D500 will complement the D3S more, though at a grand more, is it worth it?

I went from a D3300 to a D5300 and found a world of difference. The only thing annoying about Nikon is that they will charge you a lot more money if you want just one extra function.

Is it worth nearly as much as a D7100?

I just checked their D750. Scuffed and scratched body with scratched screen for the price of a brand new grey import or a cheaper second-hand on ebay in mint condition.
Import from a reputable seller will come with a warranty, and savings on ebay used body are enough to fix any potential shutter or AF issues yourself.
Hardly a deal at those prices.

Hi, I am looking for a dslr for my younger brother for his photography classes at school, i doubt he would need any particularly complex setup, probably a basic dslr for beginners + lens, the cheaper the better.can You recommend some setup to go for please? I have no clue at all about cameras, other than they take photos lol.
Thanks for help

Well if you are looking for the absolute cheapest set you will looking at something along the lines of the Nikon D70 or Canon EOS 40D, slightly more expensive then the D70. And with the D70 something like the Nikkor 18-55 F/3.5-5.6, this is the kit that I started out with. Though i would strongly recommend to get a 50mm F/1.8D as well, as this is a lens that will him forever.
Obviously the more that you spend the better the kit that you will get, though most beginners will not need anything more than this. If you are looking for new kit you will be spending a lot more but in cases you can loose features, for example the D70 is capable of using much older lenses then the current D3000 series and 5000 series Nikon DSLR. But the image quality is going to be worse. If you tell me your budget I will be able to suggest the best possible kit for your brother!

Thanks for all the help so far, I would ideally be looking to spend up to 150 quid on that, but could probably stretch to 200. Don't mind 2nd hand as I am aware I wont get new set at this price point:) Thanks!

In that case I can suggest a few bodies a D3100, on MPB for £94. This will have good image quality and is probably what the majority of the people in his class are using. But if he decides that he wants to do it further then it is likely that he will swap the body as he will want more features. A D300, £159 on MPB, this will last him a while as the layout is superior to the D3100, is better built and has a great autofocus system. Though if he is new to DSLR,s and doesn't know how about manual modes and how to use them it will confuse and he will not get on with it. The last option is the D90, £159 on MPB, the best all rounder. If it was me and I was choosing for someone who I do not know the ability get the D90, but seriously consider the D300 if he is thinking about perusing further than just a photography class, for example degree level or as career. In terms of lenses at this stage look on eBay for an 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 VR on bid or buy it now for around £40 mark. In regards 50mm let him decide as to whether or not he wants or needs it as only his photography style will be able to dictate that.
Hope this helps you out, the world of DSLR's can be very daunting and confusing.
