Looking into it further seems to be alot of conflicting information online. Sony link states snapdragon 400 but then an online teardown shows broadcom so all very confusing.

The Sony Smart Watch 3 has a Snapdragon 400 processor just like most of the other watches. https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/archive/smartwatch-3-swr50/#most-advanced if you go down to the bit that says "World’s most advanced Android™ Wear smartwatch¹" it states it runs on the snapdragon 400 series

Majority of ones confirmed and with dev previews are Snapdragon devices, a few are Intel powered and one lone Mediatek device.
The Sony has a Broadcom SOC, which to be compatible with Android Wear 2.0 might need work from Broadcom, so it's not really down to Sony.

I think Sony would like to release Android Wear 2.0 for it but might have to wait for something like drivers from Broadcom which is probably why they haven't made an official statement about it.

If the SWR50 doesn't get the android wear 2 update then it will all be down to sony as the specs of the watch match alot of those which are officially confirmed as getting the update.

I've owned one of these for about 6 months and they're "alright".

with minimal use you'll likely get a day or two at best before it'll die; the proprietary wrist-strap that comes with it is only replaceable via Sony (they cost £30 each, almost half the cost of the unit itself...)

Also, my strap is already weakened / loosens occasionally (and I'm not in the slightest too aggressive or overly 'active' with my watch, no rock climbing or potholing that's for sure!).

I bought mine from Ebay for £60 and honestly, I wouldn't recommend paying anymore (especially with Googles relaxed attitude towards Android Wear updates etc)

as I said they're "alright" but if someone offered me £30 for mine right now I'd take them up on the offer lol. :smirk:

Companies say anything to sell. technical services say anything when they know nothing. History and reputation is what you need to look at, Sony have a guaranteed 6 month software support for most devices and its actually more like 12-18 months, then that's it, yes, that's it. I would be surprised if sony could afford or spare staff to do the basics of keeping most of its range updated. Its the reason why Sony have gone from being a powerhouse of a phone company challenging Nokia and Apple, to a joke of a company (like Nokia) now lagging behind Motorola and Huawei.

If this was £60 or less, or if it was going to be supported, I would vote hot and buy one. Otherwise its like the same thread posted before the shopping hype, freezing cold.

Most likely won't get android wear 2 seen as though it was released in 2014, and moto 360 1st gen released in 2014 is not getting it either. Nonetheless great price if you can get it for £46.

I bought this strap:
Ritche Black Stainless Steel Strap 22mm
3D Printed SWR50 holder

So about £25 all told and I really like it. The adaptor works really well and being able to swap out 22mm bands is really useful. The black silicone wasn't quite fancy enough for parties at the Stark residence.

I bought one in june for about £70. Great watch. I remember seeing a link somewhere for a fob type surround which allowed you to use any xx mm strap. can't find link now. I get 2 full days battery and it charges very quickly. perhaps a little large on my skinny wrists but some of my regular watches are too.

I did download an app which allowed you to surf the web. It wasn't too bad really, but the free version only allowed you to view the BBC website without forking out for the full version. It was called Web Browser for Android Wear.

I have this watch and it's very good indeed. Yes, battery life could be better (I get about a day and a half out of mine), but it uses the micro USB charging cable so it's pretty versatile charging wise.

Sony Customer service emailing people, posting on Twitter saying it was coming early 2017. However lately someone got a reply from Sony saying it's not coming and the list of devices as published by various news sources don't have SW3 listed as a device receiving it so I'm now of the opinion we won't get it.

I'm not too bothered though. It's still a pretty good watch, use mine with BT headphones when running and GPS tracking so I can leave my phone at home. Also pretty good for controlling Hue Lights with IFTTT Do Buttons. Also handy for taking quick notes and setting reminders.

Got it for 69 from curry's when on offer. Overall a good watch and excellent value for money. The most disappointing thing, and this probably applies to most smart watches, is the battery life. Even after turning off WiFi and adjusting brightness, etc I find the battery goes very quick. Even sometimes when you turn on aeroplane mode after having used GPS the battery appears to durian quickly. I also get the odd random reboot

Great watch, though I bought the white strap as the black picks up the smallest amount of dust and fibres.

I got one for Xmas. Can't go wrong at this price. Lots of apps, pairs with your phone, has built in GPS. Can play music via Bluetooth headphones so you can go for runs without have to worry about your ipod earphone cables.

as sony havent announced a replacement I would be reasonably confident. Even without it is a fairly good buy at that price, miles better than a fitbit. The only thing it is missing is a HRM and to be honest the wrist ones are indicative and this pair with a bluetooth hrm and headphones for phoneless runs. It is also waterprooof and records your swims with swim.com, golf swing analysis etc..
