I've been looking for a decent compact camera and came across this deal.
Seems like a good price to me considering its nearer £300 elsewhere and some good reviews.
Only available in white at this price, the black is £299.
Here's the spec.

I telephoned today and was advised if I pay an extra 100 then they will dispatch otherwise my order will be cancelled. So much for none in stock!

I thought they would have contacted everyone with the same story. I told them I wasn't prepared to pay £299 when it had been advertised at £200 and expected them to honor the contract. Their view was the order is on hold until I agree to pay extra or cancel. Think its a grey area as to whether they can do this as according to T's and C's a contract is only in place once order is dispatched.

can they do that? My order is stating on back order too

I rang them earlier and was told that the order had been placed with the supplier and they were awaiting stock but they had no idea when it would be dispatched . Sounds like they've taken way too many orders and are trying to wriggle their way out .

Jessops just rang me. They will not honor the £200 advertised price, and will only despatch camera if you agree to pay £299

Your best bet is to contact them and let them confirm.

Does anyone know if Jessops are going to honour this. I bought it and then it went out of stock, when I track the order it says on back order.

Any one got the confirmation that it's in stock and will be delivered? Also in the order confirmation Jessops said they won't charge the Amex card until it comes in stock. My question is if stock becomes available after 31st, Amex £50 offer will expire or they will still honour it as the order was placed on 24th? Cheers

No
It's the date your card is charged. So I would look something else if you are not confident about this coming back in stock before offer expiry.

Just to be clear, I crave the latest body just like anyone else. And I find the cost of glass hard to swallow. Since you mentioned this was an older body, I was just sharing my own (slow) realisation that IMO its best to invest in the Glass and buy a body a few gens back.
I wasn't suggesting you're a kid. So not sure why you've taken offence at what I thought was a perfectly reasonable point.

Come on, I am not a kid. The thing is I have several decent lens and good enough A mount camera body already, i do not want to buy anymore lens, I do not want new mount. Especially that this was supposed to be my pocket camera, it's not a bad option, it just failed to impress me out of the box.

I think is normal these days people found phone's camera better than the dslr because of their usage. DSLR sure can get better quality image but might not be the quality some people will expect. It all depends on the way you use it and the adjustment
afterwards.

Must admit I am a bit Sony guy if we talk about house electronic. I bought this camera from argos @ £239 a while ago but ended up returning. The spec is great, finish is good as always from Sony, however I found few issues with the firmware and the lens quality in low light conditions quite disappointing tbh (and no chance I would pay current prices for a lens upgrade). In good light conditions, even my phone takes great pictures so I expected from apsc sensor and premium product more. Ultimately, I went for a completely different beast (Nikon coolpix a) and I am happy with it.Saying that, this is a decent buy @ £200, just do not expect too much and be aware its already few generations old.

I've come to the conclusion you're better of investing in the glass rather then the latest Gen body.
Unless there's a fundamental issue with the current body you have (AFS speed, low light sensor performance), you're best sticking with what you have or buying a few Gen's back. Because whilst the headline specs are great, the bang for buck with each iteration is minimal in real world use. Moreover, they depreciate rapidly.
Upgrading the Glass on the other hand (faster/clearer/longer/wider) really opens up a whole new world of options. Moreover, outside of the kit lenses it generally holds it value well, so you can gradually step up without taking too much of a hit.

Not really something I'd be interested in, not for the price is a solid deal. I'm seriously tempted to pick up an Olympus M10 - light, compact, viewfinder, shed load of compatible lenses. Just looking for the right deal

I have the nex5 and a 5d2 . The issue I have is the size is just a little too big to be compact, the sony is fab but for travel it's just a bit too big.
