Fully agree mate. The Dali E-12 F is a proper subwoofer. Agree about the Sonos proposition, however with Chromecast Audio you can now convert any old set-up to wireless and have integration with Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music etc and also multiroom if you need it at the princely sum of £15 per dongle, hence price-wise there are significantly cheaper options out there.

Funny you mention Dali products, when I saw the cost of this I immediately doubted it'd be in the same ball park as the Dali E-12 F sub. That said, as others have mentioned, Sonos is about paying for the wireless convenience etc.

Obviously, you've not heard any other powered subs at £300+ price

£500 is fairly serious sub territory, I'm sure it's impressive but wonder how it compares to £300+ offerings from the long-established Hi-Fi brands.

Honestly is one of the best things I've heard, your paying for the quality of the product as well as the sound performance, pairing this with the playbar or a play:5 is a seriously good set up, for both your TV and music collection, also benefitting from the multi room feature

It doesn't! any other £500 sub from monitor audio, kef, Q acoustics, REL, tanoy, BK electronics etc. will blow it out of the water. Looks, wireless connectivity and seamless integration with the sonos system is what you are paying for. In some sence its like Bowers&Wilkins PV1D...

Extremely expensive really for what it is but it does make a huge difference and looks extremely inoffensive sat in the corner of the room.
Watching Judge Dredd last night I briefly unplugged my sub and during that time without it, the sound felt so terribly feeble.

This is a good price for what it is, Sonos prices being Sonos prices. However, if size and multi-room expandability are not top of mind, I'd seriously look at a 'proper' 2.1 audio system at the price that a combined Play 5 with this Sub will cost you (just over £1000).
At this price you can opt for the beautifully detailed Dali Zensor 5 floorstanders and couple these to an Arcam A19 AMP - both these are WhatHiFi 5* recipients and are ca. £1100 at RicherSounds. The soundstage that this kind of 2.1 system will create has to be seen (or heard) to be believed, and yes I've auditioned a few Sonos set-ups as well. The stereo separation, quality of the soundstage, clear separation of highs, mids and lows etc will blow you away.
Heated for what is obviously a good deal if you go the Sonos way, however at the £1000-£1500 price point you will be spoilt for choice given what's available out there today.

Got this last week from very to add to a playbar and two play 1s.... makes a huge difference... before I was pushing all the settings like loudness, bass and full range on the surrounds to get the speakers to have some depth, now I have them all leveled out and the bass comes through excellent. I'm finding myself turning down the bass levels as I go on too as it really does an excellent job ! Pretty happy even at the cost as long as it lasts a while and doesn't break on me. Looking forward to the Alexa update next year too

Jeez that's a serious outlay for a single subwoofer. It'd have to be pretty amazing to compete in that arena.
One thing that does worry me a little with Sonos is their reluctance to detail the spec of the gear they sell. Pretty much every Hi-Fi/AV brand worth it's salt tends to let consumers know the power of what they're buying. The excuse of "Sonos think it's irrelevant" really doesn't wash with me. What's powerful in a small room, might be a rather weedy affair if located in a very large room.
*voted hot on principle around the good price; but I'm far from convinced about Sonos products.

They're a bit like Apple in that respect. However, it's quite difficult to work out for yourself if a speaker suits the dynamics of your room, because there are just so many elements in play. So why not buy it, keep all the packaging, and if it doesn't suit your room, take it back?

Mine didn't want to know until it was in and working. Now it's a great improvement on the big amp, which she didn't understand, and the removal of 7 speakers.
