What are you talking about? The Play 1 is probably the best speaker in the range, certainly in terms of SQ per £.
I own a set of stands with my 2 Play 1's, as WBRacing stated, they help to avoid immediate reflections off of whatever surface the speaker is standing on, which can mess with the sound. IMO they improve the sound in a subtle fashion, they also improve the aesthetic IMO and it stops they getting damaged by spilt drinks :o)

This isn't how Sonos works, there won't be a refresh.
Sonos is discounting many of its speakers until January, then you won't see a discount for probably another 6-12 months.

What's the purpose of the stands when the product is designed to sit on its own anyway?! Raises hardly any height and just can't work it out.
I'd personally prefer to get the Apple Store deal where you receive a £30 Apple iTunes card with each £149 speaker

I have several and everyone who has seen them has said that they look better on the stand, weird as it is only a subtle change but does make a difference. It also points the speakers slightly upwards which helps a little with the stereo imaging.
Most compelling for me though is that I had to buy third party 10m cables and the connector protrudes quite a bit, tipping the speaker forwards. These stands fix that problem.
P.s. If you would want the stand then this is a very good price.

I have 3 play ones, play 5 gen 2 and a connect, I would definitely get a play 5 over 2 play 1s, fuller deeper sound all round, play 1s are pretty poor in my opinion, but I'll keep using them as the Sonos eco system is so good and works excellent
