Yes, I'm considering the same however I read John Lewis price match up to 30 days from purchase I believe. Richer Sounds looks like £999 is their boxing day sale price and they aren't open until Monday which means any price match request to them may well be rejected if this goes oos by Monday. I dunno

John lewis has 28days price match guarantee. If you find cheaper elsewhere, you can make a price claim at john lewis to match the lower price. Better secure your purchase. Just bought mine 5 mins ago. Been aiming since Black Friday.

I hope so too. Although I had a conversation with a member of staff at Richer Sounds after the Black Friday price was over and he mentioned that there was very little margin in the ks7000 series and the manufacturer had to support them and other retailers to get the product out at that price so I'm thinking they will match but probably won't be looking to beat it. Extra years guarantee would be welcome though.

I bought this tv a few weeks ago for the bedroom, it's fantastic! I believe what they say about the margins at this price - I think it's a marketing thing to get quantum dot out there at basically half the price of OLED.
I noticed juddering at first (with sky q) - solution was (ironically) to turn off all of the motion settings (which are basically anti-jutter).
Comparing this to the F8000 (which cost us over twice this originally and was a flagship model) in the living room, this blows it out of the water!
Just hoping for a Boxing Day sale on the oleds now!

Does anyone know what broadcasting standard will be used when they the BBC (eventually) start broadcasting 4K over DTT? And will the tuners of the 4K HDR TVs on sale now be compatible when it eventually happens?
Got told in currys that the current 4K TVs with Freeview HD tuners would become compatible with 4K HDR DTT through a software update (which I am sceptical about).

I got this TV in November and haven't had any issues with judder. It is amazing. Perfect picture and loads of cool features like streaming from the pc and being able to link the sound bar with the Xbox and Playstation so the smart remote controls all the volumes. Maybe the judder is the soap opera effect people tend to leave switched on auto in options. It's under auto motion plus in picture settings. Set blue red turn to 8 and judder reduction to 0. Led clear motion off. It'll make everything look better.

Hmm, good point, but I've never had a TV break, ever. If it lasts 5 years it'll probably last 10. John Lewis is closer and more accessible should I need to return it in the first week though, and the sound bar deals JL are offering are better than Richer Sounds deals for the same sound bars when ordered with the TV.
RJUK
24 Dec 16#61
Do Richer Sounds have a price match guarantee like John Lewis? At least the JL purchase is "protected" if another retailer offers a cheaper price on boxing day or in the Jan sales. I should mention that I live Richer Sounds and have bought loads from them in the past, but I've never had a guarantee over 1 year on a TV and still never had an issue, so 5 years is fine.
The Currys deal is making me think though. If the 6.6% cashback on TCB is applicable to this TV, that's another £60 off. Question is, how do we find out if this TV is included?
Hiltron09
24 Dec 16#62
Richer sounds have a policy to 'beat' other competitors by an amount. In this case that would be £20. They do specify they will only do it with a retailer with a comparable guarantee. As for Currys, they have only just jumped on the bandwagon with the guarantee and personally I don't like dealing with them. So for me, I'll stick with JL for now.
LazyDonkey
25 Dec 161#63
Personally I'd never buy a TV from anyone else these days, as the customer service at JL is superb. I've just had the panel fail on my Sony set with less than a month of the 5 year guarantee remaining. As there is nothing of an equivalent spec, they have given me credit to the value of what I originally paid (£849). By adding just a £1 to this I will qualify for a new 5 year guarantee. So....I can get this for £50, but the judder issues do concern me, as I watch tons of sport.
conrad77
27 Dec 16#64

I keep getting tempted by this tv but then I look on the user reviews and it puts me off. I know if you buy from JL they will take it back, but still a bind having to box it up etc and I've found they do take a bit of pushing these days to take stuff back. Decisions decisions!

The only problem at the moment with this set and other makes is it does not support HLG unless a software update will cover this. From what I understand HLG (hybrid log gramma) is needed for viewing HDR with upcoming BBC broadcasting ( there may be others ). I think at the moment some Panasonic TVs support this ( I may be wrong) so HDR platform is developing very quickly.
afzzal
28 Dec 161#67
according to this article: http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/hybrid-log-gamma-what-is-it it sounds like HLG will be achievabke via a software upgrade. Samsung were the only manufacturer willing to commit when asked to comment.
At the end of the day, you can wait and wait (another 6 months by the sounds of it for HLG). I pulled the trigger 2 days ago and can't wait until next week for the delivery

Bought this tv, as soon as this thread was started, been into currys whilst out shopping and drooled over it, knowing it will be in my house on Friday, but all that aside, you can never please all the people all of the time, there will always be somebody with a negative comment about the item you might want to buy.
so just to sum it up, if you like it, do not worry what others say, be brave, be independent, and make your own mind up.
but whilst you are still deliberating, i will be watching a great tv

how do you know it's great if you haven't got it yet, you might have problems like all the other 'negative' reviews, £899 is a lot of money to some people and they want to get it right like myself. constructive reviews to help people would be better.
Jaybeam

Yes I read that but it also summed up by saying:
"When it comes to HLG on 2016 screens, the watch phrase has to be caveat emptor (or buyer beware)".
Just making the point things are a changing and 2017 seems to be pivotal to HDR, as said before I am considering this set, but been caught out to many times before by buying something that's been the best thing since sliced bread only to find out later it wasn't that great.

I've been deliberating buying a new TV since LAST Christmas! Every time I think "that's the TV I'm buying", I read a few reviews and something always puts me off. It's either some flaw in the TV, or some new technology that's just on the cusp of being released.
At this rate, when I finally bite the bullet, I'll be getting an 8k ultra hdr holographic OLED for £399 in about 3 years ☺️
Buying a TV is a nightmare if you're even a bit tech minded, and also fussy & OCD...
LazyDonkey
28 Dec 161#72
I was in JL on Christmas Eve as they have given me credit of £849 for a faulty Sony that died 1 month before the 5 year guarantee ran out (as mentioned in a previous post). I was looking at the S8000 in the 49" for £1199 and talking to the Samsung rep. I mentioned judder, motion handling in sport and also whether quality control had actually improved at Samsung - based on the number of issues with trim falling off, inconsistent panels etc..., as I'd always chosen Sony in the past. He was very honest in his response and said that due to the actual number of sets sold (massively more than Sony) there will always be some QC issues, but no more % wise than any other manufacturer. He said he'd never known any issues with motion handling in sport and that if the TV is calibrated properly (basically by switching off most of the motion handling settings) there won't be a problem. Every person is different though and settings need to be set accordingly. Gone are the days that the 'vivid' settings out of the box with every processing tool switched are in any way acceptable'.
He then said 'you're looking at the 49" S8000, but the best TV in the shop bar none for spec and bang for your buck is the 55" S7000. There is no way that I can recommend the S8000 for £300 more when it is smaller and performance is equal. You will not get a better TV spec wise at £899'. We were then joined by a JL partner (as they call them) and he asked him 'best TV in the shop for price'. The response - 'the S7000 no question'. The guy from JL then said 'the price is crazy and JL don't want to sell it at that price, but it's a price match that started Christmas Eve. Get one whilst you can'.
The rep then said - 'the Sony range this year has been blighted by a glitchy android operating system that is still not fixed.....no one will recommend Sony at the moment. The LG OLED's are amazing but so pricey and the rest of the range is average. The Panasonic sets look superb, but the panels are 8 bit and not as future proof as Samsung'.
I'm still undecided myself, it's like a minefield out there as every TV these days seems to have some issues. I've always avoided Samsung in the past due to the number of QC problems they always seem to have, but I still keep coming back to this TV. The only problem is that at 48" wide (for a 55" set) it's a little big for the room and it's footprint - the wide feet are an issue.
Interesting to note that in Currys the S7000 was hidden away from the main Samsung display and the rep in there was pushing me towards the S8000. It was as if they did not want to sell the S7000 at that price. On paper it looks to be an amazing bargain - just a shame about a number of poor reviews.
ADVICE from users with this TV. I went into Currys yesterday to see this and noticed on a movie clip in dark scenes the picture is very blocky in places. I mentioned this to a member of staff who said you will get this and pushed me towards a Sony. Has anyone else noticed this and can this be removed / improved in the picture settings?

Samsung already said publicly and to review sites that their 2016 range will be updated to support HLG via a Firmware upgrade, then again how quickly they do this... Although they've been releasing new firmware for KS7000 quite often.
It's HDMI 2.1 and Dolby Vision I'm more concerned about... Then again, allot of manufactures are shying away from Dolby Vision due to needing the chip / not having control (One of the mods on avforums had spoken to the TV manufacturers about it).

Haha yeah. TReviews already spoken to Samsung, who were quite forceful in saying that they would upgrade this TV to support HLG, so i think we're ok.. Other maufactuers not being so willing to state it publically.
The hope is that for HDMI 2.1 / Dynamic HDR that a firmware upgrade should be possible as no physical hardware changes are needed for it, will just have to see though.
