Call o2 when you get the phone and tell them you want to cancel your airtime and pay the cost of the device.
Seems like a cracker to meee!
Step by step guide for this deal
1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the 79.99 + £18*24 tariff.
2) Receive your phone and sim card.
3) Put the sim card into your phone and go onto myO2 (app or website) and from there request the unlock code.
4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.
5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the phone because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.
6) You own the phone from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.
7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.
Hi Jamie,
02 have a different way of dealing with things.
With 02 when you get a contract from them, they split the payments.
One is your air time (text, minutes and internet usage) and the other is the cost of your mobile device.
example:
Samsung Galaxy S6 Like New 32GB Sapphire Black - (One off payment) £79.99 and Monthly payment of £4.00
Airtime Plan – Monthly Payment of £14.00
24 month contract
500MB data
4G ready
Unlimited texts
500 minutes
What the OP is saying, get the contract, once you have received it, cancel the air time within 14 days cooling off period. This will effectively cancel the Airtime plan.
What you have left is the device contact. So you tell them that you want to keep the device, pay off the full 24 months payment which is £4 per month x by 24 months = £96 + the £80 upfront payment, which gives you a total of £176.
I hope I was able to make it clear for you to understand
HOT DEAL! VOTED!!!!

Its a lottery might be pretty smashed up might be a new one someone didn't like. IMO it's a lot of messing about even if you get through their stringent credit checks and manage the cancelling/unlocking regime, there's still the possibility you will end up with a knackered s/h phone and a damaged credit score, not for me!

know the feeling, 5 calls and 3 chats before getting the line cancelled, yet paying for phone was no issue. I managed to cancel on day 13 - even had transcripts of the 3 chats confirming.....with a different reference number each time!!
but still I had a £450 mobile for £250 so it is worth the hassle just don't leave it too long!!!

A quick comment but you sound like you know what you're doing and just need a pointer...
Choose phone you want, the condition, colour and any variation.
Then choose VIEW TARIFFS.
Under each tariff click the MORE DETAILS link. There the costs are broken down and you will see an entry for TOTAL PHONE COST. These vary according to the tariff - so you have to hunt through for lowest. For Z5 Premium (only 'Perfect' availble atm?), a *quick* look indicates best overall phone cost is 383.99 (on any of tariffs with 119.99 upfront).
(The £4 is the monthly payment for the phone - hence x 24 as it's a 24-month term that you're effectually going to pay off early).

how much would the Sony experia z5 cost in the o2 refresh deal? Sorry, I don't really understand how the device plan works. How did the OP get the equation of 79 + (4*24). what is 4?

This is my 5th 02 Refresh deal via HUKD, most of them I have had a problem with the final bill amount
however I have never had any silly amounts taken out of my bank account
I've got to say though 02 must have the worst system going for these things to continue to happen where people post about large amounts being taken out of there accounts (early termination fees) I usually do a live chat if only to get a copy of the converstion via email, then follow it up with a phone call to 02 to get things ironed out once and for all
as for credit rating, as I said this is my 5th refresh deal, my credit rating file was excellent before I started these deals and to this day it still is with a high score (via Noodle) and with no bads marks etc

So I think I understand how this works, however once you cancel the airtime under the cooling off period why not just continue to pay the monthly 4 quid for the phone over 2 years? Interest free credit phone, bonus!
Also that way there is no way they can put a mark against your credit rating, in fact it should improve your credit rating as it will show a loan which you will be paying on time each month, even if it is a small amount.

all cancelled now, just paid off the Device plan (£96) and cancelled the remaining Sim part
asked about my pending bill of £14, was told that will go out as per normal but I would be refunded that afterwards
what I will do next is go on live chat (after 24-48 hours) get it confirmed the account is closed and the balance is Nil, going by previous deals they will tell different things but at least I will have it as a record
all in all and apart from a delay in the unlock code, another bargain thanks to the OP and 02 refresh

Just cancelled the airtime and paid for the phone. Took less than 5 mins from dialling 202. Very easy.
Some naysayers on here saying it's too much and you should buy off eBay. I disagree entirely. Even disregarding the inherent risks of buying from a random off eBay, I think it's unlikely you'll get a 32GB for this price anyway, certainly not 1 with 12 months warranty like this has. I've been looking for a while on there (and Gumtree) and it's very rare to see good condition used S6s advertised for less than £230+. You might get one with a cracked screen for this price.
With reference to unlocking: I couldn't do it using the app or online so I used live chat. After 72 hours the unlock code hadn't turned up so I contacted again and was told it could be up to 7 days, but within a few hours I had received an email with the code in it (no text).

I'm not doubting what you say about 02 taking large sums out after deals getting canceled
after all I'm on my 4th or 5th deal now, so I've read about others being stung shall we say
I can only speak for my personal experience, yes I have had 1 or 2 hefty bills
however they have always been sorted with a quick phone call and probably a follow up call to ensure it was done

It sounds like to me you have spoken to a foreign call centre agent
either call back and speak to someone else, hopefully you get someone who knows what to do
or call back tomorrow during the UK working hours once you do follow No.5 above
5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full - once this is done and they ask is there anything else then say you want to cancel the airtime.
You are well within your rights to do this
** if you read earlier posts in this thread a number of people have done this and had no problems what so ever

That's interesting, the world of myth and reality around credit scores is bewildering.
Yes, they auto generated an email which forewarned me of the payment to be taken.
First time I saw the email, called up, told to ignore it, and £570 was then not taken. I got another refresh deal, saw the same email when i cancelled, ignored it, and it did actually come out that time. Luckily I had enough in my bank overdraft for it not to take me beyond my agreed o/D limit, especially since I'm applying for a mortgage. It took a while to sort, quickest way was asking my bank to sort it, as o2 would have taken days.
When I the bank, the lady said she had the same thing happen with her with o2 also, they took £900 odd out of her account. Gotta watch for o2 random payment process.

they wont allow me to cancel airtime, they are asking where it states in terms and conditions of cancelling airtime
i explained, i have not yet used the airtime , and found its not of good value to me -
please can someone help me
BignRed84
13 Dec 16#117
it has been suggested that doing that may effect your credit score
i to have had excessive bills in the past from 02 after these Refresh deals, however a swift phone call often gets it sorted before actually getting taken from my bank account
part of the problem with these deals is what has happened to me today, I have received ny first bill (don't think its due for payment until 27.Dec) by which time I would of cancelled my contract
and hopefully this payment will be either cancelled or refunded
one you cancel, it is quite common for 02 to generate some sort of bill under an early termination fee (its happened to me several times) however a quick phone call followed by a live chat with the details recorded usually sorts this out
again I have never had any mega amounts of money taken from me
bizzargainhunter

**TIP**
If you want to avoid the risk of o2 mistakenly taking hundreds of £ from your account - after you've paid off - cancel the direct debit with your bank to block further payments being taken which might screw you and your credit rating over.

This is my 3rd refresh deal - WORD OF ADVICE - Do not cancel your direct debit - Thats the mistake some make and end up with a black mark against them. O2 may bill you for the first months but will send a credit by the 2nd bill. IF you cancel the DD you will end up with more problems.

I use noddle and my score was around 870 after 2 refresh deals its about 650.
That stopped me being qualified for a particular credit card offered by my current account provider as I went through a precheck and was told I may be refused.
Didnt apply as I was concerned I would do more damage :disappointed:

So if you got it last year in Dec for that price it was only 8-9 months since release?
Hope the S7 goes that price now Ive stopped buying on release when 8 months later the current model is around half price or £300 cheaper!

It wont **** your credit score, granted theres a shift from limits to defaulting a bad debt managed correctly always looks good on the companies books. You have DSR 7 days thats your statutory rights anyway so if you take them to the small claims courts rather than stop paying. O2 tends to be peopke whove looked at it and sent it back pretty safe. To be honest just picked up a second hand xperia z1 compact for 30 of ebay phones this good are overkill cold from me

Just done the same myself on another O2 Refresh Deal. Used online chat (took 5 minutes) and requested unlock code. Code came 2 hours later. Called customer services the next day, requested to pay off phone and cancel airtime (took 5 minutes.) Didn't even get question by O2 why I wanted to leave. Very simple process and no hassle.

"Perfectly Fine phones have been a bit more loved, but are still working well.
They might have superficial scratches on the back, sides and screen but there will be no more than five deep scratches or chips up to 2mm in length. And you'll get a 12 month warranty to put your mind at ease. "

If the phone is damaged in any way or theres one too many scratches, can you send that back under the 14 day cooling off period and cancel the whole thing too?
Also, does it come in its original box and how it would normally come if brought brand new?

hi,
thanks for reminding me about the 14 day cooling off period.... just totally didn't occur to me!
as for the split contract for mobile & airtime I am aware of that as I already have o2 as one of the isp's in the house (somehow I ended up paying for everyone Inc the kids lol).
thanks again.
Worth a shot as my son needs a new mobile for his birthday just after Xmas!!

Hi Jamie,
02 have a different way of dealing with things.

It works, did it three times, though it does reduce your credit score, not because you terminate early, but because o2 refresh works as a loan on your credit file in the first place.

I believe agreeing with the company to stop the monthly payment will not affect the credit rating. If you are a defaulter, a different game altogether though.

hi, very interested in the idea though does it work?
these phones are subsidised by the carrier so I can't see them allowing you to just stop the monthly contract and only pay the subsidised phone cost.
also, what exactly is the 4*24?
another thing, as you get credit searched for a mobile contract, if you come out early - how does affect your credit rating as I wouldn't expect the carrier to say it is "satisfied"
if it works it's an awesome deal!

Heated, Ordered. Thanks OP. See what happens. I wish it was a gold colored one.
Opening post
Select 500mb tariff with 79.99 upfront.
Total cost: 79.99+(4*24)=175.99
7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.

but still I had a £450 mobile for £250 so it is worth the hassle just don't leave it too long!!!
Haven't used the code more than three times, used a different network sim and now banging my head against the wall!!!
(The £4 is the monthly payment for the phone - hence x 24 as it's a 24-month term that you're effectually going to pay off early).
however I have never had any silly amounts taken out of my bank account
I've got to say though 02 must have the worst system going for these things to continue to happen where people post about large amounts being taken out of there accounts (early termination fees) I usually do a live chat if only to get a copy of the converstion via email, then follow it up with a phone call to 02 to get things ironed out once and for all
as for credit rating, as I said this is my 5th refresh deal, my credit rating file was excellent before I started these deals and to this day it still is with a high score (via Noodle) and with no bads marks etc
Also that way there is no way they can put a mark against your credit rating, in fact it should improve your credit rating as it will show a loan which you will be paying on time each month, even if it is a small amount.
I got that sorted and my original bill of £3.61 refunded
another great deal thanks to OP
Now - where's that crystal ball time machine gone...
today I received a text message followed by an email stating
My account is overdue by £10.39 (its not) also if its not paid within 4 days a late payment of £3.50 will be added to my "NEXT" bill
strange as the account has been closed
I'll be on to them tomorrow via phone and Live chat to clear this up
O2 already suck in my book.
forget the £10 a month, you are paying the £4 (Device Plan) x 24 = £96
*** you also need to look unde "Perfectly Fine" and not "Perfect"
select any £79.99 upfront and bingo
which is probably my final balance, (Intresting no early termination fees/charges) going on previous 02 refresh deals I usually cll up/live chat to get this wiped as I haven't used anything to be charged for, I'll see what happens though
also just checked my original number issued with this phone is now dead
Some good ones, some bad ones
Yesterday I paid off the device and cancelled the sim part etc
Today I was still able to make a call
So I phoned up to check, I was told that she could see the cancellation note
But would put another note on the account as of today
I'll keep an eye on this over the next few days just to be sure
My
now the test will be on how much and follow on bills will be and what gets taken of bank accounts
as long as you keep on top of things you should not get any excessive amounts taken out though ( i never do)
asked about my pending bill of £14, was told that will go out as per normal but I would be refunded that afterwards
what I will do next is go on live chat (after 24-48 hours) get it confirmed the account is closed and the balance is Nil, going by previous deals they will tell different things but at least I will have it as a record
all in all and apart from a delay in the unlock code, another bargain thanks to the OP and 02 refresh
I now had two emails, one from 02 referrals with my unlatching code which has worked fine
2 hours later I received another email from mycare, telling me I failed there security test therefore I need to reapply
very strange, previously when I've asked for my code in 2 different options the 2nd one comes teling me its already been done
anyway its unlocked now, I'll phone up tomorrow to cancel
Can't do nothing though for a few hours
Dam
1 via my online account
&
1 via the 02 unlock link (as provided above) I also did this via live chat
When you read other 02 Refresh deals/threads there's never such a delay for the unlock codes
I've only ever waited either less than 24 hours or no more than 48 hours
Wouldn't mind but I'm going out shortly for the rest of the day
If I don't get it by tomorrow I'm going to cancel anyway regardless
I still should get the code as the request (2 of them) is in the system
I was checking eBay last night you get get an unlock code for the S6 from £5 anyway
I used the above link to unlock my phone... It's an online form basically.
Hope it helps someone.
I went on Live chat earlier and was told there is a service level agreement (SLP) which states it should take no more than 7 days, I was assured I should get it hopefully within 24 hours
as Ive said before this is my 4th or 5th refresh deal
all my previous unlocks codes have arrived with 24 hours from request, he said as he checks his emails every 5 minutes
talking of other issues with 02 refresh deals, I've just got an email off 02
I'm sure others will disagree with the comment on the bottom
For the 7th year running we've been awarded
Number 1 Network for Customer Service Satisfaction by Ofcom. ?????
to avoid any issues in receiving the code after cancelling
still awaiting mine despite requesting yesterday evening
after all I'm on my 4th or 5th deal now, so I've read about others being stung shall we say
I can only speak for my personal experience, yes I have had 1 or 2 hefty bills
however they have always been sorted with a quick phone call and probably a follow up call to ensure it was done
but I've never had any mega amounts taken out
you know whats going to happen now with this deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!
what time did you call ??
It sounds like to me you have spoken to a foreign call centre agent
either call back and speak to someone else, hopefully you get someone who knows what to do
or call back tomorrow during the UK working hours once you do follow No.5 above
5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full - once this is done and they ask is there anything else then say you want to cancel the airtime.
You are well within your rights to do this
** if you read earlier posts in this thread a number of people have done this and had no problems what so ever
Hot deal. Tnx
Gotta watch for o2 random payment process.
i explained, i have not yet used the airtime , and found its not of good value to me -
please can someone help me
i to have had excessive bills in the past from 02 after these Refresh deals, however a swift phone call often gets it sorted before actually getting taken from my bank account
part of the problem with these deals is what has happened to me today, I have received ny first bill (don't think its due for payment until 27.Dec) by which time I would of cancelled my contract
and hopefully this payment will be either cancelled or refunded
one you cancel, it is quite common for 02 to generate some sort of bill under an early termination fee (its happened to me several times) however a quick phone call followed by a live chat with the details recorded usually sorts this out
again I have never had any mega amounts of money taken from me
If you want to avoid the risk of o2 mistakenly taking hundreds of £ from your account - after you've paid off - cancel the direct debit with your bank to block further payments being taken which might screw you and your credit rating over.
THEY TOOK £500 FROM ME FOR NO REASON, BY ACCIDENT. Doh. Bladdy O2...
you shouold get it within 24 hours
Ive just requested mine via my online account, I expect it tomorrow
you will receive a 4 or 6 digit code, you will be told to insert a non 02 sim then enter the code provided
then hey-presto phone unlocked
then phone 02 to cancel the airtime
Result
Not a mark to be seen anywhere, battery flat, currently charging up
will request unlock code later today, and cancel airtime tomorrow
Thanks to OP and 02 Refresh another great phone
Check the damn Equifax file and prepare for some shock.
O2 is there friends. You're a long way from understanding the credit score galaxy.
O2 does not even know who is Noddle.
You're warned.
or try live chat
or phone up tomorrow (not sure what time the phones close)
which ever option you try it will work, its worked for me each time on my previous refresh deals
it stands at 671 points (which has actually gone up) since last time
today I ordered my 4th or 5th (I've lost count) so its made no difference to my credit score at all
there is no record of any credit check today, the last one was 5/9/2016
Is it me or does anybody else have the message of not being able to get unlock code when using the app. I havent made any calls from the phone/sim so wasnt sure
then enter the code given by 02
and theres no credit checks showing from 02 either
voted cold this is terrible and if people are thinking about applying for mortgages in the next few years i wouldn't touch it with yours.
Does the unlock come OTA or is there a code to input?
Then bin the no credit ee sim, you know you're definately disconnected that way.
I use noddle and my score was around 870 after 2 refresh deals its about 650.
