Good standalone price. Got this this morning as part of a package on my TV. If you are getting a new TV too like the Samsung ks7000 then you can get this for £133.

do the discs come in the box?

If you are lucky they do but if they are missing then it is a real problem getting them from Samsung. I rang them 3 weeks ago and still waiting for mine after several more calls. Please note the PRC website says "While stocks last".

Yes only The Revenant and Independence day where in the box. The Martian was missing. I'll have to send off for it.

Bought Xbox one S as it is multifunctional as well as uhd blu ray but voted hot as not everyone wants a games console to play media.

It's nowhere close to what a dedicated uhd4k blue ray player can do (both Panasonic and Samsung). I burnt my fingers already in this and went for Panasonic uhd 4K blue ray player

Great price heat added. I've been waiting for a decent price on one of these but it's bad timing for me at the minute. I thought of just getting a Xbox one S but I already have a Xbox one and I feel a bit cheated having to sell this and buy another if I didn't already have one I would go the X1S route.

Xbox one S has a 4K blu ray player, and added benefit of being a games console, and streamer. Cold.

The xbox one s is a games console with added benefit of a uhd drive!
Not really fair comparison but if you match them both for video playback only you wouldnt buy the xbox as isnt as good and slow to load and pretty noisy when spinning discs! However if only have money for one and also want a games console the xbox one s is the steal of the centuary, great move by microsoft. Ps4 pro should have included a uhd drive.
Atmos audio also incoming early 2017 for xbox one s

And has pretty poor reviews as a 4k player... so if youre into high end its not good but if you dont have an xbox one then it's probably the better choice if gaming > films for you

Disagree, sold my UHD Samsung player and have an Xbox1s now, picture quality is the same, plus the Samsung had issues with various discs and the Xbox has played everything.

Sorry but the xbox s isnt as good especially with panning scenes/fast action and far slower to load, great 2nd player though.
Not had any issues with any discs and must have 30ish including a number of American imports, uhd discs are region free unlike blu ray

Am I correct to say the the xbox one S makes a lot more sense? Virtual life upgrades and also plays games when needed

Yes and no. If you have no intention of using Xbox One S for gaming at all then standalone player offers slightly better performance. Xbox One S does a lot more so will make a lot more sense for some people, but not all.

Yeah i read that, im a preview member but wasnt there when last turned on before xmas and not had chance yet! Pile of games and 2.5 year old dont mix! I take it you have to change settings in sound setup on Xbox?

27 Dec 163#30
Having had both i can honestly say they are very similar interms of picture quality, no panning or judder issues at all, yeah its slow to load but thats nothing to do with picture quality, i found the fan on the Samsung very noisy and the Samsung has noise reduction you cant turn off so you get some artifacts on some movies.
The Samsung is only worth it now as its much cheaper, the Xbox is the better buy as you get so much more for the money.
Each to their own but you shouldnt make stuff up or omit things to try and one up someone.

I did type a long answer but hit delete instead of edit doh!
I didnt say there was a massive issue with judder, but i do feel on panning / fast scenes thst the samsung just looks smoother, to me something just does edge it.
Never heard the fan in the samsung and drive almost silent. Never had an issue playing discs, never had an issue with the small remote or having no display, turn those off on amp when watching in dark etc
When i bought mine the biggest reason already owning an xbox one s was for the sound which microsoft is correcting so the gap is def closing.

same here i see no reason to buy a 2nd 4k bluray player, anyone know any good 4k switch boxes because im running out of hdmi ports fast

27 Dec 16#43
I thought they had almost given up on 4k Bluray? Is that not the case? I kind of expected hundreds of movies by now, but there's not too many is there? I thought they'd kind of decided streaming is most likely where the future lies, so weren't really going for 4k discs in a big way.

That is what they used to say about the ps3 when it came out. Around £350 at the time vs £999 for a Samsung bluray player. There was no improvement at all over the ps3, the Samsung is been obsolete for long time now, the ps3 still gets upgrades for the latest films.
