My mother just back from Saintsbury's. £20 turkey fresh crowns are £4 and whole fresh turkeys £6. Staff said they have a warehouse full was bringing out trolley loads. This is longwater in Norwich. Freezer full, oven on and cats sitting at ovenmalready watching them cook. She bought some for friends as well.

New to this so quick question. I thought you only get the instore price on day of delivery, no same day delivery so could pay normal price if any left in stock on delivery day? Fantastic find

Does anyone know how this works? Just been to my local store and nothing on shelves so If your store doesn't have any stock on delivery date do they just substitute or not deliver it?

It's all local and store specific like all this Xmas deals base do. Stock levels / date and management discretion

They may not actually be doing the picking up from your local. Most of my online orders are usually pick as far as 4 miles radius stores to my postcode.

Sainsbury's will bring something dearer and charge you for it, they won't substitute for the same price. For example if you order a chicken for £3 and they don't have it they'll bring a more expensive one or nothing

Thanks for that - not sure it's worth bothering - my local doesn't appear to have any chickens or turkeys on the shelves reduced or otherwise

Did you follow any of the link above ? May be no excess available around your location
All these chickens are showing up as available for delivery from the Hastings store too. They said yesterday there was loads more to go out today. Might be well worth a trip if you have freezer room.

7.4 Our Sainsbury’s (Substitution Promise) applies to substitutes you decide to keep and works like this:
If we offer a substitute costing more than the grocery item you ordered and you keep it then we’ll give you a voucher (up to a maximum voucher value of £99.99 per order) for the difference to be used against a future Sainsbury’s online grocery order.
We’ll email you an evoucher code and will pop a copy in your online voucher wallet. You can find your voucher wallet at online checkout. The voucher can be used for online groceries only and won’t expire for 6 months
If we offer a substitute costing the same as or less than the item you’ve ordered and you keep it then we’ll charge you for the item we deliver. We won’t consider this item or make any deduction when calculating the value of your voucher for any other substitutes;
We’ll calculate the value of the voucher by comparing the price of the item you ordered with the price of the item we delivered. We’ll tot up the total for the substitutes you keep and send you a voucher for this amount.
We’ll include any multibuy promotions and offers in the comparison so if you order two items on multibuy and we only have one item in stock and we offer a substitute for one or both items, we’ll offer you a voucher for the difference between the multibuy price and the price of the items you keep.
Comparisons based on our in-store price on your delivery day.

The 3kg chicken roaster are going through at reduced price for me but the other chickens at 90p-£1.40 aren't reducing by correct amount , for instance 2 x Sainsbury's Corn Fed Whole Chicken at £1.10 each are coming to £5.50 in my basket.
Anyone else have the same ?
bambam0074 to Lizzie18
28 Dec 16#34
The price is per KG not each so it bases the price on an approximate weight...so it is clearly working on each chicken on your example being 2.5kg

Make a call through to their customers services and file a complaint. Tell them to cancel the voucher and refund your card.Tell them you are no longer doing online order with them due to overcharging you . That's what I just did now.

28 Dec 16#43

i already phoned them this morning and was told it was normal to be given a voucher for subs (probably not normally £150), i can put up with the voucher if they give the actual difference back eventually but feel they should have made it clear how this sub charging actually works.
Thankfully this was for buisiness use so it isn`t that bad for me as long as i get the difference but could imagine it to be much worse for others where 75% off becomes initially full price. i`ll be giving cs a **** if that voucher doesn`t come though...

Online can't be directly linked to shelves in a store so you have to accept that what you ordered may have gone before yours got picked. Its not like they have people live picking items as you add them to your basket.

I placed an order for delivery today added the chicken but made sure I had ticked no substitues for it having had experience of sainsburys substitution policy before. If the chicken arrives this afternoon with the rest of my groceries then bonus if not ah well was worth a try
fubob11 to elephantsoup1
28 Dec 16#49
all of my chickens were subs, even the ones with similar names were subs as the quoted weights weren`t available, giving you smaller chickens and in practical terms paying slightly more per kg, it was still a good deal but could have done without this faff nonsense, lesson learned anyway.

well that`s extreamly misleading and will be phoning to complain tommorrow, neither driver or the person i phoned this morning made any mention of this limit when i had the opportunity to return the goods to my nearest sainsbury. He even wrote a note on my account that i was owed over £100 just in case, very poor when sainsbury`s own staff don`t even know the rules.

My order was just delivered. 9 of the 15 chickens I ordered were substituted so I sent them back. I then realised that I had been charged normal price for the Corn Fed ones (£4.40/KG instead of £1.15/KG).
What a joke.

Just had my fathers delivered no chickens and rude when phoned customer service , I'd love to know who actually got their chicken delivered? Quite awful considering the amount that didn't, I have just cancelled my order and was told my chickens were 3.90kg. Supposed to be 0.90kg Serious let down sainsburys !

29 Dec 16#56

29 Dec 16#59
Well that was a disaster. Ordered 16 chickens, all substituted with small chickens but to compensate they gave me 23 chickens instead. All charged at full price and when I rang up, they said they would refund the difference in an evoucher.
I neither had room to accommodate 23 chickens, nor did I want a £100ish evoucher so declined all the chickens!

just an update, sainsbury is going to give my difference back via direct bank transfer instead, ordinarily an evoucher would be given automatically for the difference but because it was over £100 it required that i email a technical division to sort it out. happy now, but almost gave me a heart attack with these policies.

Glad you got it sorted. I refused Evoucher too and they took my card details to do the refund.
