Taiwan is well known for its high quality steel manufacturing however. Estwing etc. make many of their non made in USA tools there.
The high end custom aluminium case manufacturers are also Tawainese. Lian-Li and Silverstone.
So for tech products and steel Taiwan is highly rated.
But yes, victorinox knives are meant to be great. I've only used their tomato knife but it's very good.
Generally they use thin steel and cheap looking handles though.
So more a no nonsense, sharp knife.
They do much nicer looking rosewood knvies, but they cost more.
The thin knives are just stamped steel I believe, but work well.
Their forged knives cost a lot more.
This block is rididuculous though. Better off getting their higher end blocks, without 6 steak knives added!
Richardson Sheffield Kyu is good value and well rated, and the knives look lovely.

True, I have a couple of Japanese knives and they are excellent, however, by Far East this company means China and Taiwan.

Need a set of knives for new house & kitchen pretty urgently and don't have the money to spend on a very expensive set at the moment, so these will do perfectly for the time being.

I reckon it's better to buy 3 or 4 reasonably good knives that you will use all the time, rather than waste money on cheap knives like this where you won't get much use out of some of them.
I personally find myself using a chef's knife for almost everything. Sometimes I'll use a utility knife and a bread knife.
I highly recommend the Victorinox 19cm Chefs Knife 5200319W, and if you google it you'll find it is very highly rated by all levels of users including professionals who normally use very expensive knives like Global or Wusthof.
EDIT: you can get that Victorinox knife for well under £30 - I think Amazon have it for about £23 right now, which is more than the price of this whole knife set but trust me you won't regret it. The knives in this deal are rubbish.

Richardson Sheffield now owned by Dutch company and vast majority of products made in the Far East ... not the quality they were once famous for.

Not this exact set but I have another style / model of Richardson knives, they're ok, wuite good TBH but the steel on the sharper blades does chitter a bit unless you're very careful in sharpening them, I use a whet stone as opposed to a traditional sharpener. Overall I'm happy with them.

Had mine about 11 months, no issues with them so far countless times in dishwasher and no problems, good collection of different knives and it looks nice. Think I paid £17 from argos in Jan sales.
