I bought this refurbished laptop as a Christmas present for my son. I am a big fan of dell the build quality is great. I must admit I am overwhelmed with what I received. I am going to post some pictures of the actual laptop I received so you can assess yourself because I was dubious of "refurbished" . I ordered it on Tuesday and received it the next day with free delivery!
It is a intel i5 3rd generation with 8GB memory and a 128Gb SSD. The condition is like new and the battery is great it lasted out of the box for over two and a half hours. For under £200 from a genuine retailer with 12 months warranty I couldn't find a like for like deal with these options at this price.

Still prefer a ThinkPad X230 but they often go for more. Here's the NBC review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Dell-Latitude-E6230-Notebook.83266.0.html
Rather strange that unlike the larger Dell Latitudes like E6430 etc. this doesn't have a trackpoint. The other well-known Dell Latitude think is to have HDMI instead of DisplayPort which is strange for a business machine.
Still plenty of people do not like the classic black ThinkPad look and this looks a bit more modern.
The NBC review says yes.
This is 12.5" extra portable laptop so it doesn't have a DVD where you could add a 2nd HDD. AFAIK the only 12.5" laptop which has an optical drive is the HP EliteBook 2570p.
While this appears to have spare miniPCI slots, googling shows that they do not seems to able to take mSATA (which would be an expensive option anyway): http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msata-ssd-in-dell-e6230-do-nothing.720489/

um, i think dell are a bit over rated. I believe my current laptop is the 3rd gen i5 3230 I purchased it over 2 years ago. for a £100 more. So not sure if this is great value or not. The only merits being a ssd and 8gb
Would the 128SSD drive on its own be enough, would you not also need a conventional hard drive as well?

128GB is fine, thats all i have on my macbook

15 Dec 16#15
Unless you're storing masses of games and movies, 128GB will be ok.
Having a smaller (but SIGNIFICANTLY faster) SSD is much more sensible than getting a very large conventional HDD and using 10% of it's capacity

15 Dec 16#16
Nice spec, more then enough for most. In regards to the space you can pick up a 1TB SSHD for £80 or 4TB external for £100 as it has usb 3.0. Unless you are not storing lots of music and movies, 128gb is fine

You can just get one of them large and tiny usb sticks that sit near flush to the side for additional storage. That's a really good deal for sure

15 Dec 16#19
You can get these cheaper from other suppliers but this is a good price all the same - the Dell E6220/6230 are very good machines.
Think it's also worth pointing out that these cost nearly £1,000 a few years ago before they appeared on the ex-lease market. So you really are getting premium build quality for pennies.

I've bought 2 E6420's and have been really happy with them. Because they're a little bigger they have a dvd drive. I've put a caddy in the dvd bay and put the original hdd in there and then dropped a 128gb ssd in the main slot (undo 4 screws and it slides right out).
I picked up the laptops for about £100, the caddy costs about £5 and the ssd around £25. Super snappy running Windows 10 and crazy cheap

Maybe being refurbished is putting people off, but I've had Dell refurbed laptops before (although not from this retailer) and they have arrived as new. This is a Dell business model so better build quality than the normally cheaper home user Inspiron range, i5, ssd, 8gb ram, W7 Pro and years warranty this is super hot

Well, if the OP had given the model number... Dell Latitude E6230
Dell Latitude are easy to interpret: first digits is 5,6,7 with 5 being lower end (just above Vostro), 6 being the higher end and 7 being the more recent. The second digit shows the screen size: 2/4/5 for 12.5"/14"/15/6". The third digits is the CPU generation: 1/2/3/4/etc. for Arrandale/Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge/Haswell/etc
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with a 12.5" screen. They tend to be around 500g lighter than the 14" versions.

16 Dec 16#53
X220 is not identical spec as it's the previous generation: Sandy Bridge vs Ivy Bridge. The same gen would have been the X230.
But on the other hand they are listing it as coming with Win10 rather than charging extra for that.
They also list it as coming with the IPS screen which would be nice. However... in the specs they say it has two USB3.0 ports which is highly unlikely as only the i7 version of the X220 came with USB3.0 and then only one port according to the thinkwikis: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:x220 http://thinkwiki.de/X220

E6230s were going for £130 earlier in the year, albeit with 4GB and a standard HDD. Think the condition was hit and miss though.

I just collected my laptop but unfortunately the condition is poor with 3 dents in the top of the case and the keyboard / touchpad has seen lots of use. I didn't notice what Grade they were supposed to be but I would definitely say 'B'. Not good enough for a present. Great spec for the price though

Hi, I ordered this deal before Christmas - delivery was great, pretty much next day.
Regrettably, the machine was a mess. No experience of "grading" prior to purchasing but my machine was definitely not a "grade A". Plenty of visible damage to the sides (dents) as well as heavy scratches.
Contacted the company straight away to advise as above. Was informed by the company that the item would have met quality control and certain amount of wear and tear was to be expected.
Managed to get a refund in the end and woll not be taking the same decision again.
Beware.
