This isn't so much of a deal, but seeing as CEX uk and private sellers are trying to make a profit off re-selling to consumers, and the fact it's out of stock everywhere else in the country; it couldn't have come at a better time, just before Christmas.

PSVR really needs a killer game, to many short "tech demos" so far. Kitchen demo was fantastic though hoping RE7 is that game. Still having the family round on Christmas day and letting Grandpa have a go is going to be great entertainment

your gonna be waiting a long time then for that ''killer app'' as VR as a whole has flopped. There was a dev on some site I can't remember that stated they actually had the most paid for vr game and even they were struggling achieving a profit and that most devs he was in contact with were abandoning the VR bandwagon. It was a fad and anyone who thought otherwise was silly especially with Sony and their track record of abandoning hardware that wasn't their main console.

Gotta love all the negativity aimed at VR, so basically sony, facebook, microsoft , htc, samsung , google etc have invested billions into a fad that's already finished according to some?
PSVR is flying off the shelves quick as they come in to stock. I can't imagine all those companies are just going to write that money off and let it fail. After playing things like batman , res evil and how we soar it's a paradigm shift in gaming and nothing comes close to that immersion you get.
I guess time will tell and whilst it might never replace a TV screen , I honestly can't see VR fading out anytime soon and hopefully it will keep getting better and better with every generation.

Citing big companies as evidence for the projected success of a product is risky; Betamax, HD-DVD, 3DO, SEGA, Neo-Geo, Nintendo (VR Boy, 2DS, Wii U, Gamecube, etc have all had big backers in the past which have counted for absolutely nothing.
VR is a niche market that will likely be around for a while due to full immersion experiences, and theres nothing wrong with that. But lets not pretend its going to be a mass consumer product cause it wont be - motion sickness alone takes out a portion of the audience able to play - and that's those that are already interested and committed to buying.

*You're. The fact that we're on a post about PS VR simply because it was briefly in stock after being OOS for so long, suggests otherwise.
If so, your comment isn't accurate.
VR (or at least this iteration of it) is still very much in its early days and the demand is outpacing supply. Once the install base grows, the market and potential profitability will grow, including for indies like the ones in the link.
This is just the first wave of headsets. The tech will only improve, and people's fascination with VR (not just in regards to gaming) isn't going to die off any time soon, much as you seem to want it to .

I'm not sure about it staying niche.
Price, not motion sickness is the crux here to VR becoming mainstream. I'm not sure how Betamax and HD-DVD's obsolescence is even remotely related to VR. Does VR have HD-VR coming that's going to kill it off. Neural implant VR? Electro-hallucinogenic gaming pills that VR can't compete with?
VR isn't an incremental console generation either. Every console will become obsolete. VR is a new way of playing at the consumer level. Akin to the Walkman, if you're looking for tech analogies. Yes maybe the bulky headset will become obsolete, but portable music players are mass market now. Technologically we're nearly at the stage where VR can be done affordably.
It's not just in gaming. Sports HUDs are about to go mainstream now too and so too will mobile computing.
AR will be ubiquitous on the streets and offices. VR will be ubiquitous in homes. Not just for gaming, but also for movie experiences.
Terribly myopic at this stage in tech to doubt either VR or AR. It was always about processing power and price. Few years to go and it'll be a done deal.
Problems in the short term for gaming are yes, motion sickness and lack of titles. Both very short term problems. You'll see 2017 with a boom in news releases on AAA games for 2018/2019.

Oh and.. VR still has a killer feature for the big consumer push.
Shared VR experiences. Once you can share your experience, it opens up a ridiculous amount of gaming potential. VR MMOs, VR cycling (we know VR is coming to Zwift, they have already adapted a large part of Watopia for VR demos and hardware firms are working on creating a sports-level headset for it with a goal of around three years from now), VR shoot-em-ups.
RPG players love immersion, it's a massive part of what the seek in gaming. VR will hook them again in what is currently a fledgling industry. I'd say six or seven years from now we'll see a VR MMO. Maybe even a VR Warcraft within ten.

If it was really selling well Sony would be shouting it from the roof tops. Its a fact this fad device has bombed in sales. It reminds me how people were claiming 3D to revolutionise technology and that barely lasted 5 mins before it was thrown in the trash where it belonged. The same is happening to VR. You just don't want to admit it because you have buyer's remorse.
darkspace100
19 Dec 16#29
VR will always be something like the Wii without the sales. A gimmick, a fad that will be chucked in the closet once you realise you've been mugged out of a few hundred pounds not including games. It will never succeed because people will always prefer convenience than putting on some stupid headset on. You people claiming its the future are funny. Very funny indeed.

VR fad has already died down. Once the initial fools who have more money than sense who have no life or girlfriends are out of the way there will be no one else buying this waste of space and money.

It's a fact is it ? Even though PS VR (just as one example) has sold out and is extremely hard to get? Source for your claim it has 'bombed', else it can be dismissed.
I don't have buyer's remorse, I haven't even bought a VR headset yet .

Why exactly do you think its sold out so quickly and hard to get? Because Sony is drip feeding stock to make it seem like demand is high to fool people into thinking everyone is out to buy it.

I loved VR but sent mine back in the end, just doesn't seem worth the money after a few weeks, as everything gets completed far too quickly and the novelty wore off for me. Will buy again at some point but got more than my fix in the time I had it!
