sorry but I'm confused...Is this different to planet earth on Blu-ray which was released few years ago? is this a new series? the box says Blu-ray so why someone here is talking about 4-k?

This is a box set of the original Planet Earth series plus the new Planet Earth 2 series. The 4k thing is just being mentioned as Planet Earth 2 was filmed using 4k technology. This would be high quality bluray from the 4k source but not in the actual 4k format. It was just a way to see it in 4K if you had a fancy Panasonic tv.
A physical copy of Planet Earth 2 on a 4K disc may be some way off if at all.

Planet Earth II has been amazing to watch, loved The Desert and The Jungle in particular <3 Great price for both series. HOT from me

Couldn't agree more. He's an absolute national treasure.
It was amazing watching his 1950s Zoo Quest series in colour recently on BBC too.
Nice. I have the 5 disc blu-ray boxset (series 1 + desert lions and snow leapards) bought in 2011 from Amazon for £12.99.
These are amazing value for education and cinematic beauty.

Short version - Buy a Panasonic 4KTV because that's currently all that can play it.

Good price!
However, I find all the modern wildlife documentaries are all flash, and no substance. Yes their new cameras look great, but there is little in the way of educational content, and the music way too dramatic and overwhelming.
The Life Collection is far superior in my opinion.

Does this contain the special edition of the first series or just the regular? From memory I thought the SE had a better presentation than the regular release (along the lines of 1080i50 rather than 24fps), but might be getting confused?

could anyone please let me know if it is 1080i or 1080p?
thanks
