Decisions, decisions......this package or the 'New 3ds xl' ??
Is there much difference between the models?

this is good value especially if your looking to get yo kai watch as well already but imho the new models have an edge, if you can spend a little more (not much more tbh) on a "new" regular size 3ds where you can change the coverplates.

That's ok I'm the same! I put the question on hoping to get some feedback from members who do know. It looks a good deal to me so thanks for taking the time to share it :-)

The list of differences seems to be:
•Better Controls
•Enhanced Processing Power
•amiibo Support
•Faster Downloads
•More Comfortable 3D Viewing
•Changeable Cover Plates
apart from better controls, I think you could live without the rest. I mean, a game shouldn't play faster and how often are you downloading? I'd rather have this than a non-XL but "new" 3ds at £149

Also only n3ds and n3dsxl can play Snes games form the shop, also only n3ds and n3ds xl can play xenoblade chronicles.
Lastly they have stated yoshis wooly world with have better fps on the new 3ds/xl models.

quite a sizeable list! i'd back this deal but the updates are worth it if your buying close to the mark of a "new" 3ds price wise like this. I had a 3ds xl and now have the newer model and am glad I upgraded but thats just me.
the smal extra oomph I power makes a difference. google hyrule wariors 3ds comparison.

The 3D is a *massive* improvement on the New models. On the older 3DS the 3D effect breaks if you move from its narrow viewing window whereas on the New 3DS you can move your head and the system around basically as much as you like and not lose the 3D effect.
I'd say the old system at this price is awful value and recommend buying a New 3DS for £40 or so more every time.

New 3DS is better, but this model at the deal price is still good.
Yo Kai Watch is great! It took a couple of hours to get my head around the game -mainly because it looks, sounds & feels like Pokemon, but has VERY different mechanics. Once I'd gone past that, I found I couldn't put it down. I've now clocked over 30 hours play time, and am having great fun just bimbling around the game world.

Changeable plates is n3DS only, not n3DS XL.
Amiibo Support is available on the regular 3DS/3DS XL using an external peripheral for NFC, it's around £15 I think, or comes bundled with one of the Animal Crossing spin offs.
The improvement in the 3D is AMAZING, it tracks head movements so you can go around a corner in Mariokart without going blind.
The improved processing power makes a big difference in Hyrule Warriors (the game is playable on n3DS!), improves the textures in Monster Hunter 4 and Generations, and apparently gets rid of some slow down in the new Pokemon games.
@OP : It's not pink, it's Salmon! If he's going to get a job as a high flying commodities broker your boy is going to need to accept this simple conceit now!

i have owned the original 3ds xl and now the new 3ds xl, the old was a great feeling from the small screen but it wasn't perfect as the 3d was iffy especially playing games like mario kart. the new 3ds on the other hand is a dream come true my best handheld, better than my phone(iphone 6 plus) in terms of gaming, it's also slicker too. Would recommend the new over the old any day, really, get the New 3ds xl, u won't regret it! from a owner of both versions.

I have both 1st gen 3DS XL and 2nd gen 3DS XL too... not a real big of the 3D, but no issues with it and its easily activated or deactived of course. I find the 3D on MK7 not suitable on either console, but it is maybe just my eyes not handing it.

+ although the battery is exactly the same size and make, the battery that is include is newer with improved chemistry. So it holds a charge a bit better and gives you a little extra playing time.
The only worthwhile reasons two reasons I can see to buy a 1st gen 3DS XL would be (1) You are getting a really cheap deal and its in your budget, (2) You really want one of the Themed Special Edition ones (the Yoshi one is cracking!).

Shopping around for a 3ds xl, this looks a fab price! Watched an in depth YouTube video comparing old and new models and am sure older model will be more than fine for my little girl...! I know nothing about this game though... Would a 7 year old girl enjoy it?!
