Deal of the day and cheapest ever as far as I know. Bayonet only but converters are cheap.

If you're happy with HD and not in a rush to throw out all of your blu-rays of films shot in SD to re-buy them in overpriced 4K, then don't worry! I have this version of Hue, they're amazing and do everything I want them to. Not one person has ever commented "if only the colours were a bit richer!"

I hesitated just a bit too long over this or holding out for another reduced price deal on the v3. :disappointed: Had vouchers so it wouldn't even have cost me anything. Damned indecision, should just have gone for it..

This is your best option to get into wireless lighting now. You do need the hub that is included with these bulbs.

Anyone know if i can mix gen 2 and gen 3 bulbs? I have plenty B22 fittings in rooms that I don't mind about the Richer Colour such as hall/landing so thinking could get this then buy gen 3 bulbs for living room etc. But wanting know if all can be controlled by same hub (and also by alexa) ?

26 Dec 161#28
Yes you can mix bulbs and can all be controlled by the same Hub.

Hub is the same. Bulbs are different.

26 Dec 16#23
You need 1 Hub which controls up to 50 bulbs.

Because if you actuslly go Into the amazon link, it says there's a newer version available for 149.99. Click the link and it says that one is richer colour bulbs. ..

What do you mean by richer colours? Are there specific bulbs for each generation? I'm only going to use normal white so what's the difference like?

Interesting, how can you tell on Amazon..? I mean g2 vs g3.
Edit: it says "richer colour" in the description of the general g3

Google it up people rater than asking if there's a difference. If youre not savvy enough for that, you probably shouldn't be getting smart bulbs. Just saying.

Was only looking for 2 of the White Ambiance for outdoor porch lights, but may aswell get these now as at least the colour is there when/if I need it. Be good to create a bit of atmosphere at Christmas/Halloween etc. Now my only decision is 2 of the individual bulbs (at £53.98) or the starter set for £86.99 and sell the hub, effectively giving me 3 bulbs for around £55!

How do these bulbs compare with the Hive ones? I don't have a hive heating system but their pricing seems good and you can integrate control of mains power sockets as well. I'm primarily wanting the system to use with Alexa.

I own a few of each gen 2 and 3 and tbh I don't really have any problems with them they both do what's needed and mix well colour wise for this price would be silly to pay the extra just for a little extra depth I don't even need any more and im thinkin of getting it

I ve had them side by side; difference is obvious. Price is good for these; worth extra £25 when on deal ? Personal choice. I d prefer the richer colour version- reason obvious; mixes colour much better- hence richer colours!

There is; newer model has been around £100 on Amazon. I d hold off. Blue and greens are much richer on newer version. Check out on you tube (Philips hue gen 3 vs gen 2)
