To those who are interested in Philips Hue, grab yourself a bargain with £45 off RRP for the E27 White and Colour Ambiance Starter Kit. Starts at 5pm tomorrow (Sunday). Don't know if they'll include the B22 starter kit but here's hoping they do.
To see the deal use the Amazon app and look under the lighting department when filtering search. I can never find it through the actual website itself.
This link should take you to a filtered page showing only this deal.

I am a bit salty that I missed this deal. I went and bought a B22 version out of John Lewis. Got 10% discount on it but still £30 more than this.
I've not got around to comparing the two myself yet though.

Does your phone last longer with just wifi on or just blue tooth on?
Also zigbee is a mesh network so devices are repeaters, I don't think wifi is.

I'm not sure what the OFF power consumption is for any of the smart bulbs but I wouldn't expect it to be any more than up to 1 to 2 Watt per hour. Someone mentioned above about the LIFX bulbs having WIFI. Well so do the Hue ones. Hue uses a wireless system called ZigBee which should in theory be less power consuming but I have yet to see that confirmed. So there shouldn't really be much if any difference in these re consumption. The LIFX colour 1000 are rated 11Watt and produce over 1000 Lumen. The Hue are 10 Watt and produce 800 Lumen. This is all on paper however.

ive always gone lifx find them absolutely perfect and no bridge to set up/keep plugged in so power consumption is not something ive measured.
None, Amazon have had them for £30 twice in the last couple of weeks. I would expect better new year deals.

What's the likelihood of being able to make the money back from selling the bulbs?
Shinoke
18 Dec 161#63
No B22, eurgh. I assume these are far more power efficient than the much touted lifefx bulbs? Given that they don't have a wifi unit built in.
I have no problem with investing in a bridge/starter kit. Makes sense to me.
But shame there's no B22 deal currently. ~£100 is far more palatable.

Any idea if there are any cheaper compatible bulbs that work with hive hub? I've just got a free hub and lights kit for taking out British gas homecare. Surely all hubs and bulbs should work as aren't they all just doing the same job? It doesn't make sense if you have to buy into a certain brand.

Nice alternative to the overpriced colour bulbs from philips HERE
Got one on Saturday, connected to my Philips Hue Bridge without any problems and it works great. Worth noting that it might not work with Apple Home Kit (I don't use it so that doesn't bother me much).
Thanks to OP for posting this deal and to Zarjaz2000 for pointing out that Inner also do coulour bulbs in e27 and b22 (currently unavailable)

as with everything there are good products and there are bad ones. With these adaptors it's the same. Loads of people mention adaptors for £1 or less, but have you noticed that there are adaptors that cost 2 to 5 times more? That is not just because the seller wants to make more money per unit, those adaptors should be safer to use.
The cheap ones are very fragile. This is not just the plastics these are made of but more inportant the metal used within. some have contacts that are so thin that once a bulb has been in the deformation is such of the contacts that the next bulb is likely not to work.
The main problem is that smart bulbs as usually wider and longer to accommodate all the electronics and heatsink features. Now, if you use also an adaptor the whole combo adaptor + bulb are even longer. An adaptor is usually around 50mm or 5cm. If your lamp is shallow then you might see the bulb sticking out or the bulb doesn't fit at all anymore.
For the future to you all out there.... when buying any type of lamp buy them with bulb fittings that are E27 AKA ES. This type of fitting is used all around Europe, so when manufacturers make bulbs it is likely that they will manufacture many more of the Edision Screw (ES or E27) type of bulbs. This is why you see these becoming more popular with deals at Amazon. In the UK and because B22 AKA Bayonet fittings are more common you won't see these any cheaper, why would you?

I really want to get this, to work with my Echo. My only concern is that the lights fitting with 3 bulbs, where I wanto place this, is already on a dimmer switch. Will this make things difficult at all?
Leery24 to allsa001
18 Dec 16#30
An option would be to get the hue dimmer switch and stick it next to the existing light switch. Then get and electrician to move the switch live for where you'll be putting the hue into the main live so it is technically always on.
Then you can still dim the other two lights with the main switch and use the hue one for the hue stuff.

These don't work on a dimmer switch unless you put that switch to 100% and don't touch it
allsa001 to ervidel
18 Dec 16#25
Many Thanks, that may be a bit of a problem them. As it is one of those switches where you touch it to turn on and off, and the longer you touch it for, adjust the dimmer setting.
Maybe if I get one of the hue dimmer switches too, and kind of place that over the existing switch (when set to 100%) it might just work.
