Is Origins purely cosmetic? I think Origins has been lower than 30 before, but the base edition has never been this low.

Pretty much. Skins for five heroes and some goodies for other Blizzard games.

It was £25 before release for a bit.

Yeah. It just came with a bunch of cosmetic exclusive stuff for Overwatch and Diablo.
This non-Origins version was PC specific and can only ever be bought from Blizzard directly.

Tempted! I enjoyed the free weekend a little while back... but unsure I'd have time to make buying this worthwhile.

someone on the black friday thread said that ALL future DLC was FREE and others backed that person up. Can someone explain why the widowmaker DLC isn't free then please?
thanks

All DLC released and yet to be released after the game's release is free. Those 5 skins aren't part of that, they are just a pre-order type of deal.

Cosmetics do not count as DLC, there are numerous skins, emotes, voice lines that can be unlocked via loot boxes.
All maps are free, and characters too.

20 Dec 16#11
it's DLC though by definition and therefore should be free. Shame on Blizzard

No, it's an extra for people that bought the game early. Almost every other video game developer does something similar. You're getting the entire game with nothing locked for £25 for a life time, so there is really nothing you should be complaining about.
Also no, it's not DLC by definition. A skin isn't downloadable content.
iamthebatman01
20 Dec 16#13
You're saying yourself they said all future DLC will be free. How does a pre-release comestic falls under "future DLC" in your mind?
wifi300usb
20 Dec 16#14
it's content that's downloadable. DLC. How else can I explain it. People should just keep their word but strangely others defend them
back on topic it's a good price for a fun game. HOT

All the cosmetics are free as well (except for those five pre release skins). You can unlock everything else by playing the game.

it was ALL DLC not future I mistyped, thanks for that

Love this game.
I think we should get a HUKD group together because i'm sick of being placed with people who leave or shout at me even though I get 4 golds etc.
Or do we already have groups for gaming? Rings a bell. Too lazy to look!

Not for Overwatch. Please feel free to start one.

Honestly if you've played the game you know the crappy loot box micro transaction system is a much bigger deal (and even that is far from being a dealbreaker). As much as I hate pre-order culture I think jumping to "shame on blizzard" for having a single (fairly crappy) cosmetic item as a pre-order bonus and a few other (also lackluster) skins in the special edition is a bit daft. Especially when you consider they have added 2 new characters (with more on the way), a whole bunch of modes, and 1 (soon to be 2) new maps for free; plus of course the insane amount of work they're constantly putting into balance and community communication.
Each to their own of course but if that fairly small amount of DLC is a significant enough drawback to deter you then you'll really struggle to find any modern AAA/ multiplayer games that meet your standards.

I'll do no such thing. I've just explained how lazy I am.

Spark
20 Dec 16#27
Seriously? Are people actually buying loot crates?
Battenberg
20 Dec 16#28
I assume so. I'm guessing virtually no one on HUKD buys them but really the issue lies in how these "optional" purchases affect the game rather than the the money that people put into them; specifically the way that it's a phenomenal struggle actually getting loot crates without paying.
hawksface
20 Dec 16#29
I don't recall seeing anything game changing in the loot crates on the free weekend I played... New poses, voices and skins? Do later ones give new weapons to make it worth actually paying for in addition to the game itself?
Spark
20 Dec 162#30
As far as I can tell everything you can buy in those crates is cosmetic. There is no way to get any different weapons or perks in this game outside of the standard sets that are available to everyone.
If that is the case and remains to be the case then I have no problem with it and if other people want to fund my future DLC access by buying costumes and icon packs then who am I to stop them?
Spark
20 Dec 16#31
I don't believe they do, no.
lomax
20 Dec 16#32
Yep no perk grind whatsoever. You immediately get access to all characters and maps. The only mode you have to rank up for is competitive. But I actually see this as a good thing as it makes sure people at least have a basic understanding of the game before entering ranked matches.
Loot boxes are just for cosmetics only I've never bought one. I don't really bother with skins though so I've got thousands of credits in my account from all the free boxes. Only cosmetics not in loot boxes are golden weapons which you get points for from winning in competitive.
Best multiplayer of the year by far for me. Easily my most played game this year and still not bored of it. Blizzard planned it from the start as a multi year competitive shooter so it should be around for a long while yet. You can tell the developers really care about the game as well. I've neve seen a developer go to the effort of producing a 12 minute video to explain how and why they'be reworked a charachter:
Really hate Battle.net as a website to use. Aside from the emails in Chinese script, as part of the forgotten password procedure they want photo's of my "government issued ID." Can't see anything going wrong with that.
Frustrating as I've wanted this game for awhile.
lomax to tenohfive
20 Dec 16#34
Are you sure you're using the real battle.net site? I didn't have to do any of that...
Although being the cheap **** I am I registered for an Argentinian account as it worked out as 20 quid or so.
Spark to tenohfive
20 Dec 16#35
Something tells me you're either on the wrong site or you were trying to do something that you shouldn't have been doing (which considering how cheap the game is in China is very possible).
tenohfive
20 Dec 16#36
Neither of the above. I've only ever used them whilst being upfront about being UK based; I CBA messing around with Hola et al.
And I'm on the site linked from this thread.
Half the issue is it's asking me a security question I don't remember setting up in the first place - and customer support won't talk to you without a photo of ID (there's actually a box to upload the file.)
Spark to tenohfive
20 Dec 16#37
I can't think of any reason why you would get Chinese script being displayed otherwise.

If you can't remember any of the security data on your account it's fair enough. The accounts can be valuable. I initially got mistyped my email on registration but was able to change it with a support ticket as I could log in. Took about 3 hours for them to respond and make the change.
Currently it's 299 ARS or £15.24 on the Argentinian store. You don't need to use a VPN you just pick Argentina when creating an account. I didn't have an existing battle.net account so it was the same effort.

If anybody wants the extra Origins content then there's also 50% off the upgrade as well now.
Is it full of whiny little oiks who take it far too seriously and spend most of their time dishing out mother related abuse over the mic?

Have played this since launch on Xbox One and it's the best game released for Xbox imo. I want to make the transition to PC as I've built a gaming rig but another £25 for something I have already played for almost a hundred hours kinda stings. Plus you have to start again from level 1 and none of your items or unlocked skins carry over :disappointed:
lomax to BazingaBen
21 Dec 16#43
Not carrying over competitive progress makes sense to me as the game is balanced differently on console vs PC. The unlock status is shabby though. Epic has managed to do it with Paragon no reason Blizzard shouldn't be able to do the same.
BazingaBen
21 Dec 161#44
I don't mind the competitive aspect, for the reasons you say - I agree with it.
However I've unlocked a lot of Summer Games, Halloween and some Christmas event items and losing everything I've unlocked would be hard. I've accrued over 3000 in game credits too and am fancying the Christmas Zenyatta skin, I'd have none of that if I switched to PC. Disappointing indeed, as you say, it's all linked via the same Battle.net account - so WHY????
