Until yesterday it was selling for £19.14 without any code. App which comes is in Chinese and you have to select Mainland China to setup this camera. Very cheap for the price considering specs. I did some search and found that Xiaomi is going to release an international version. So holding my purchase.

I'd always be worried about these cheap cameras (and other IOT tech) feeding stuff back to chinese servers

Would this work with Poe? And would it work pointing through a glass window or would the infrared get messed up?
nige182 to adamwilko007
21 Dec 16#23
USB power, wireless network and no Ethernet port I believe so no to PoE. Definitely no to behind glass with night mode active, all cameras with IR night vision would reflect off the glass. However, if this can be turned off in the app it would be fine but would not switch to night mode, I'll test this myself when it arrives. Of course you could do what I did on another and block the IR LEDs with some very thick black insulating tape (multiple layers probably needed to completely block it).
nige182
21 Dec 16#21
Any chance you can share your source for that information please? I have two already shipped from Gearbest of these ones but if a global version is coming I won't buy any more, I'll wait for that and then sell these when I can replace them with the global version and get the extras I want then as well.

I had two of those too, sold one and ripped one apart to play with. Taped over the IR LEDs as if you unplug the board it is in permanent 'night mode' giving a black and white image during the day. Not a perfect solution to point out a window but ok.

I think we all he meant this is a product for the Chinese market, with no English instructions, no CE security certification etc.
Just like the Chinese phones, you might say "all phones are made in China" but that doesn't mean a phone in a Chinese written box with a Chinese menu, with no Google Play Store or Apps, emitting whatever emissions are allowed on the Chinese market and so on is the same as the CE-marked phones that are build for the EU market.

Cost 99 Yuan (£11) in China full RRP from Xiaomi so although it's cheaper than the previously posted deal it's not that cheap. Should be under a tenner as there is already a successor.
nige182 to David23
21 Dec 16#44
Yeah, 'cos when you sell overseas, there is no additional paperwork to fill out as a business, no postage to consider, and no risk of losing anything in transit despite changing hands several times. And you know, it would cost absolutely nothing for us to just get a flight to China and buy one over there. Hell, you could totally walk into the local Maplins and find the same spec device for under a tenner too. I mean this is so clearly not a good deal for what it is.
Heat added by the way OP, I am a little gutted my first one shipped a few days ago for a fiver more as well but ordered a second one a couple of days ago for a quid less than this as well. Was going to order two more and then the price rose, tempted to order two more now but waiting to find out if there really is going to be a global version released. I guess I could just buy the extras and replace with global ones if they are released and sell these on for what I paid, it is what I did with the Sricam and Digoo I tried but wasn't satisfied with in the end.

I have the older 720P version, bear in mind that on the older one at least you can't change the timezone from China without scripts, I'm not sure if the new one supports this or if it can be changed. All the footage goes via their server in china which is disappointing, it would be better/more secure if it just used it as a dyndns service then the actual footage went direct. Finally with later versions of the camera they region locked it to only work in China with a Chinese interface, I'm not sure if this is the case with this one.
The camera itself is good though. 4Pda (Russian sadly) is a good resource for these.

21 Dec 16#45
Evidently you don't know how Chinese sellers operate, the real cost of items and the cost of selling goods from that country. It costs like 20p to send it here. Paperwork? they don't 'do' paperwork! They also don't care about lost items, they sell millions and millions of items to their own people compared to what comes here.
nige182 to David23
22 Dec 16#46
Is that first hand experience of the lack of paperwork there? You are right I don't know how Chinese sellers operate, I am not geared up on their merchant culture and customs. I am aware of the real cost of the items over there, just as it is cheaper to buy an American electronic device within America as opposed to buying from the UK to be shipped here. Weird that isn't it? How it is often cheaper to buy a product in the country of manufacture, you know before it has been through a number of resellers, and their overheads and markups applied. I am aware how cheap their shipping is, but even a few pence here and there all adds up. Lost items in transit hit their margin as well and result in another overhead cost to be accounted for and recovered in the price of products sold, yet you didn't address that point. Either way, if you think it is cheaper to fly over there and pick one up in order to only pay £11 for it, by all means be my guest. I'll stick to paying this high markup to save my time searching for a non-existent return flight to China cheap enough to make it worth the trip for such a low value item, plus my time travelling there and back.

Good deal, I've been looking at the uCAM247 but £140 is allot... has anyone used these outside? I want to record the rear of my garden and drive
Nope - just tried now and I can't get it to work. Sure, it detects *something* when you do a network scan, but it doesn't work in the way you or I would hope. It doesn't allow for IPaddress:port mapping via browser like regular IP cams. Bit of a shame really as I was hoping to add it in with my two perfectly working FOSCAMs. there is actually a response from the seller on GearBest to say it doesn't support this either, but hey, I like to give things a try!

Thanks for that, think I'll delve a little deeper before I buy one. On paper though they seem excellent value though and far cheaper than that 720p Foscam C1's I've been using. Just hoping for some sort of web/browser interface so I can view/configure the camera via a PC without the need for a smartphone.
welshblob
24 Jan 171#67
There is a community effort going on to hack this camera and provide standard streams from it. More details in the following links;
Thanks Welshblob, will check those links out. I'm actually using the Xiaomi app that this camera needs and it's actually pretty good. I found a spare 2Gb memory card and put that in the camera and enabled the motion detection. For that, you get an alert to your phone and a 15 second video snippet that you can review from anywhere provided you can get online (WiFi/Data network).
But it would be good to have this in my TinyCam app and configurable like my Foscams. Now if I could email the video feed like I can email my Foscam images when the motion detection is triggered, I'd be very happy.
Cheers,
fish. (from Caaaaardiff!)

27 Jan 17#69
You might be able to get it to email by applying the hack linked to as it does give an option to leave the cloud app running but still gives you telnet or SSH access to install any scripts you want. Be warned though the new release v2 for v3.x of the firmware has bricked some people's cams and the dev is just trying to work out what's gone wrong. So it maybe best to hold off and watch the issue thread.
Still waiting for my first cam, stuck somewhere in a Chinese export depot!

Mine arrived last night. I set it up with the help of a couple of Youtube videos but I have no clue as to what the USB port is for. Im struggling to get mine to save video to the Micro-SD card. Mine records to my SD card continuously, when I've set the app to "continuous recording".
Sometimes it doesn't recognise the SD card, and you can tell this as there's a bunch of Chinese writing where the remaining capacity of the card ought to be (in Camera Settings). Just ejecting and re-inserting fixes it.
It writes a bazillion little .mp4 files to the card, one every minute. At least they're sorted into directories, day by day, but 1 minute is a bit short - 5 would have been better.
