Here in the 21st century, I can tell a machine to do this for me with my voice.
Shall I strap myself to the stake and wait for the flames? :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm a gadget freak, love my harmony remotes & control loads through wifi.
However I have to play devil's advocate here. Turning the TV over you do multiple times a day or night, a light you tend to switch on or off just the once.
TV's now all come with remotes, so it's hardly fair to compare. You can also get an led bulb for about a fiver, so this is FIVE TIMES the cost to negate standing up once & switching the light on (you pretty much always only switch the light off as leave the room & the switch is almost certainly right next to the door you exit from so that's not an issue).
That's a massive markup to save your legs moving just once an evening imo.
Now if I had this kind of cash to throw away on a whim & a huge income, then I'd of course have them all over the house, but as it's stands it just isn't worth it for me, & I imagine many others feel the same.
As time goes by & these type of products inevitably drop in price then you'll see a much larger adoption rate, but currently I doubt they'll become mainstream or even close.

its good as you can set it to come and off by timer or by remote on your phone, good visual deterrent if away.
or when you come home with shopping ask alexa to turn the light on is handy.
I love mine although i got the multicloured version via amazon for £36.

I'm going to get this for my daughter room, as she's 4 she can't reach the light switch. But she can go 'echo turn on light'. I I know its not a massive things, but its a start. Keeping an eye out for smart switches to control my Christmas lights, so when I'm out and it gets dark I remote control them.

you could get a wireless plug and turn them on and off that way

These are more than just a Wi-Fi light bulb. You can adjust the brightness & kelvin & as someone else said you can set a timer to turn it on & off. All from a handy app on your phone. In addition for the colour bulbs you can pretty much have it output any colour you like, whatever mood your in.

This is true, I bought 3 smart plugs as they were £16 a pop in the sale at one point. However, this wouldn't sort the hardwired lights.
