I have been watching this AV receiver for a while now, it was £449 for a while, it went to £429 a couple of days ago but when I looked today it was down to £399 !!!
Well I bit on it and bought it to replace a 3 year old Sony AV receiver, this really is a sweet bit of kit
Here are some of the technical specs from the website...
DTS:X™* and Dolby Atmos® Support
Wireless Audio Playback with Google Cast™* and AirPlay
Bluetooth Audio / Wi-Fi® with Spotify and Tidal*
HDMI® 8 In / 2 Out Including 1 Front (HDCP 2.2 / HDR)
FireConnect™ Multi-room Audio* **
AccuEQ Calibration Featuring AccuReflex Technology
I hope I did this correctly, it's only the second deal I ever posted, even if it doesn't get hot I hope it helps at least 1 person
Be gentle please it's Christmas
EDIT: A further £10 off it - down to £389 now !!

Well I have just completed setting up my new receiver, it took me just under 2 hours, I have a severe back problem which limits my mobility, so would take most able bodied people around 30-45 minutes I guess
The time it took me to setup included wiring in all the different speakers, sub woofer and re-programming my Harmony Touch remote control too
First impressions were wow this is way louder and dynamic than my last amp (Sony), I tried it out with my satellite receiver, playstation 4, built in media center and some different music genre examples
I must say I am over the moon with it, it's everything I hoped it would be and more

On a more serious note, all those models you listed are low end av receivers, your speakers will matter more

Very good reciever but had to get a refund due to overheating issues.I got the Pioneer VSX_1131 which is superior imho and £50 cheaper than the Onkyo just now.I got mine from Peter Tyson with a 3 year warranty included.

Would rather have a Yamaha even if it was £200 dearer for same features. I've had to have 2 onkyos fixed 4 times because of their hdmi board issues and it's doing it again now. Terrible quality.

how odd, I am getting rid of my Sony to have this one

26 Dec 162#31
Just a FYI
The HDMI issues were down to the DSP Chip on the HDMI board and is manufactured by Texas Instruments, and this same chip is also on Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, Anthem etc etc.
The High temperatures are also massively over exaggerated, it's all still well within operating temps, and most of the issues people had were when they decided to block the top vents. Onkyo fit fans inside some models to counter owner stupidity
Onkyo put around 200 vents on the top of these units and people stick things on top.... or install it in a confined space.....go figure
Thankfully these fans won't kick in under normal usage

I have the Onkyo 606 from 4-5 years ago it must be, still works fine.
When I tried to put it inside a cabinet the thing overhearts because the top needs ventalation.
Have recievers got any better for this? I'd love one to be a bit more discreet.

mine has been shipped today, well collected by the courier and has entered the system
must say, I am really looking forward to trying this out, the Sony I had was great but a bit under powered for the premium speakers I am running
I had a full test of the Onkyo 656 in my local Richer Sounds in October and was really impressed, however at the time it was still £449, so with my savings and money received for Christmas I decided to go for it once the price drop kicked in
I have had Onkyo products before, speakers built into a Toshiba Regza TV which were perfectly fine and some basic 2.1 speakers a few years back
I will feedback once received and configured correctly (this may take a while haha)
Thanks for the comments and the heat that's been added
Merry Christmas everyone

Heat added because these receivers are really good at what they do. Not sure how many will get round to setting up speakers to take full advantage of atmos though. I'm quite mad and even I can't be bothered. Anyway, where's Loughboro? Do they know it's Onkyo time at all?

All that aside, I believe they have gotten over their high temperatures and HDMI port issues. looks like plenty of bang for your buck so have some heat
