Yep I agree. I think though Nintendo really wound down production a while ago and there aren't that many of them left to be sold, so no real reason to sell at a loss.

Don’t forget Smash 4 being ported. And the rumours of GameCube Virtual Console means you will be able to play Twilight Princess and WindWaker on the Switch.
The Wii U is going to become the most irrelevant console of all time at this rate. I say that having owned and sold one. If you spend over £200 on this thing now you are throwing money down the drain.

The Hardware was not cheap to mass manufacturer and they never shifted that many units to bring the price down, shame as first party games are top notch as always but Nintendo really blew it with this Machine from the Naming to the original price point to the second screen game controller.

Switch is available for £198.50 at GameSeek (I decided to go for it and pre-ordered it through Paypal) which in itself is already cheaper than a Wii U.

Some of the greatest games on the planet and people complain about the hardware. It's plenty good enough to achieve what the developers have envisioned. If Nintendo have demonstrated anything, it's that consoles don't have to be super-powerful in order for great games to exist.

Not worth this price.
It's officially a dead console that is discontinued with handful of great games.
the successor Nintendo Switch which appears to be promising unlike Wii U is out in couple of months at will sell for £200 based on leaks.
and most Wii U good titles are likely to get ported to it with superior graphic minus the tablet controller nonsense.

Perhaps because there is so little stock left, they don't need to reduce it. There still is demand for this, mainly the people who are waiting for the price to drop and then realising it is not going to happen.
There's no more being made and stock is slowly drying up from shops (Zavvi and base have none). Black Friday was the last chance for a reduction, and the cheapest was £235. Pre-owned prices are slowly increasing (Cex price increased by £20 the other day).
Good luck to the people in this thread waiting for them to go to £100 (It's never gonna happen).

I can only assume NintendoWarrior241 was taken when you were creating an account on here. I doff my cap to you for your white knighting efforts, but Nintendo have never been great with pricing insofar as price drops etc go. Even when it was doing abysmal and Nintendo were wanting it to succeed, their unwillingness to drop the price hindered the console when it mattered most. I can only assume it's still this price because it's Nintendo being, well, Nintendo.

You have a point. Nintendo are very good at being Nintendo. Some people think their multiple stock shortages over the years with Wiis, Nes Minis, amiibo are tactical, when it is just Nintendo being incapable. But I feel like there is little Wii U stock out there. Fight me over it, I have elite white knight skills after all.

Voted hot for all the salty, salty entertainment Wii U deals bring... Seeing people wait 4 years for "any day now guyyyzz, these are gonna be £100" .. ... 4 years LOL !!!! Meanwhile, they have actually stopped making them, so the chances them getting one at any price will be slim to none soon. Well, they do say too much computer games are bad for your brain... I guess they have a point.

Now. How silly do you feel on a scale of 1 to 10?

9 Dec 16#47
Considering the XBO and especially the ps4 outsold the wiiU by quite a lot, most people are going to have to disagree with you there. For good reason too. I mean if you really want it for Christmas, and particularly if you never got the Wii and want good Wii games with it, then go ahead. But lets be honest, the console was a flop and support will stop. The switch is coming in 3 months for a similar price point as this outdated hardware. It just makes more sense to wait. It is a bit sad that the WiiU has kept its price for so long, but oh well.
Ashley1990

My daughter, 9, wants a Wii U for Christmas so i can't wait around for the price to come down or for the new one to come out as Santa dosnt do gift vouchers. She only wants it to play 2 games - Super Mario Maker and Minecraft. She could get Super Mario Maker for her 3ds but she says she wants to be able to play it on the tv. And Minecraft on the Wii U would be better than Xbox or Playstation for us because of the online subscription cost. The gamepad controller is handy too if i want to switch to tv to watch something when shes playing. I just wish it was a little bit cheaper. I just know im going to pay £250 for something that is going to drop after Christmas. Just like everything else i suppose

9 Dec 16#50
Not in the sense you're putting over. For example, if the likes of Amazon are buying these systems in for £1, they're not gonna ask for £220. The retail prices will be based on what they're buying those units for, so Nintendo will be essentially setting those prices. Something else that's a dead give away that it's not as straightforward as you make it seem, is every retailer more or less have it for the same price. If retailers were setting their own prices, there would be large variations on the prices we currently see. It's in the best interests of almost every retailer to give their customers the best price they can and selling it for the full RRP isn't in the customers best interest. Especially for a console that's been discontinued. The PS2, Wii, 360 etc were more popular than this console, yet Nintendo themselves, MS and Sony still slashed the prices to reflect they were soon to be obsolete.
MadeInBeats
9 Dec 16#52
Wow, you're raising a fine child there
Well, they might actually only get more expensive, not cheaper after Christmas. Shops don't seem to have a lot of stock ATM... the Basic white console seems to be sold out everywhere & Nintendo stopped production of them last month... so stock of the console won't be getting replenished.
Nintendo consoles and games are different to other consoles - there's a large amount of Nintendo collectors out there so if you keep your stuff in good nick, you won't lose much money on it when you go to sell it.
Despite what all the dead-heads habitually post in these Wii U threads, it doesn't show any sign of dropping suddenly in price (it keeps going up and they don't get it yet LOL). It might be worth every penny for your daughter with the amount of time she would put in with those games, and like she says, you are saving on the free online.
Maybe when the Switch is out and her birthday swings around, it might be worth thinking about selling the Wii U and putting that money towards a Switch. I honestly don't think you'll lose as much as you think you might on it... it's becoming a rare console with people who want to collect and play on it.
Just look at the 2nd hand prices for a Basic Wii U on eBay... They are selling for around the same price people paid for them new a few years ago:
Thanks for that. I feel a bit better about purchasing it now. I had looked at ebay prices and was rather surprised at how they were selling for near enough same price new yet people on here were slating them. My daughter loves Mario and can't wait to get her hands on it on Christmas day. She dosnt mind what colour she gets. I just hope i can get one now.

I ended up buying one not long after black Friday after the Nintendo store gave a small discount, but I couldn't see them lowering it any further.
They did an offer in the week leading up to black Friday for the basic version but this quickly sold out. As mentioned, they have stopped making them and I think they wound down production long ago so I don't think there are actually many left in stock to sell. This explains why the price has remained high, low stock and reasonable demand.
If the switch was available to buy I think everyone would be recommending you buy that, however its not going to be out until March. Your daughter will be able to get the games she wants to play on Xmas day and will have a full selection of other games that she can buy if she wants to, many of which are very highly rated. Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon spring to mind. Plus the new Zelda game - breath of the wild is also expected to be released in March, and will be released for the Wii U. Likely the last game to be released by Nintendo for the console.
Over time it is likely to hold its value, only around 10 Million units have ever been sold world wide, compared to 100 Million for the wii. Keep it in good condition and hang on to it :-)
