I brought a couple and one has 3E....., this does not mean it is version 3. None of mine say version 2 on the box, some boxes do others do not. Only read way to tell is to see the light strip. The thumb pads are also a little more grey compared to the originals but who is really going to look that closely when buying these. Only real way is proper description, proper picture or feedback such as on this website.

Currently the black controller is £37.99 too, so ordered that one. Heat added.

The best way to tell is to see if the light shines through the touchpad, like the picture below.

If it does, it's V2.
