House is fully wired for CAT 5, with 72 outlets around the house. With so many devices having an Ethernet connection these days (consoles, TVs, Blu-ray players, multiple computers/laptops, R.Pi's, NAS boxes, homeservers, printers etc) you can easily fill a switch.
Bear in mind, wi-fi is not always suitable or the best option.

I had one of these. One of the cooling fans failed so returned it. Bought a d-link and that's been perfect since installation.

Yeah these don't have fans. I have used a lot of them, no failures. I think this price is pretty common though.

I have a big old victorian house with all solid walls, before family moved in i fitted an 8 port switch and ran 4 cables to the lounge, 3 for man cave, 2 to bedroom, I'm kicking myself now for not installing a 24 port as all laminates are now installed and dont want to take them off again. hardwired connection is so much better than wireless with dropping signal.. especially for gaming and hd movie watching.

Yep, it's the way to go especially in an area with huge amounts of wireless traffic where you can't get decent speeds past the room where the wireless router / AP is on any channel. 25 APS visible from where I am right now, my 24 port cisco with fan consumes 10 to 15w idling so I imagine this netgear is even less.

Cheaper than the 24 port one! Nearly bought one until I remembered I bought two 8s for just over a tenner each. If a 16 ever turns up for 20ish quid I'm in. Until then this is as good as it gets. Hot.

Pretty solid deal, anybody who is gaming remotely competitively or streams over their home network should avoid wireless at all costs

Just refurbed our old 1930s house and cabled it for various things including network.
I think every new house should be fully wired for networks. Can't understand why you would buy one that wasn't. Especially with regard to speed and security.

Its a shame it's unmanaged. I currently have a GS724T in my home server room but I require some additional ports.

Thanks OP! Renovating a house and needed a 20+ port switch to replace a really noisy 100Mb/s temporary switch.

There is a question mark......but.....it reads like a poorly constructed statment. Maybe the first word(s) which contained the capital letter got lost on the way. Hopefully not caused by this switch jumbling up where the data packets were being sent.

I had the same situation after renovating the house so I installed one of those plug connectors that uses internal electricity cables to transmit data around the house. I can stream movies over Netflix using them but I'm not sure what would happen if I tried to have multiple devices connected to say 6 plugs, but it does offer a solution.

I had the plugs but they heat up alot and dont offer full speed as giggabit does. I actually have a powerline with wifi built in. Havnt used that yet.

Would this be suitable for a small B&B? Renovating and putting Cat5 throughout.
