I'll admit this has been on my list to buy and try when I saw it at a good price. Today's price is the lowest ever according to CamelCamelCamel , so I guess now is my chance. This is listed in Ian Buxton's 101 whiskies to try before you die but others will give an opinion on its merits

Yes there are some stunning blended whiskeys, the problem is a little knowledge is dangerous and therefore people assume single malts are the consummate best that whisky provides which is in truth absolute nonsense.
If in doubt then I suggest the naysayers watch this classic whisky video for some education >

Not a bad price. I prefer single malts, but this apparently has a blend from Highland Park and Macallan....so you won't hear complaints from me! Definitely a considerable number of levels above Famous Grouse.

Cracking whisky.
Blends seem to have a bad name these days with the emphasis on single malts. Blends when done right can be incredible and id say this is very close.
I didnt know it was based on Highland park and Macallan last time I sampled.
Going to order a bottle for holidays.

Just because a whisky is a single malt, it 100% doesn't mean it's going to be nice. If nothing else then people own personal preference comes into play etc.
However I can't help but feel that all blends are doing is attempting to resemble a good single malt, and when you think that for the price of one of these decent blends you could go a purchase the single malt of your choice, the single malt will win for me every time

OK where do we start with this. It's definitely true that not all single malts are guaranteed to be good, that should be obvious though. Secondly it's definitely nowhere near true that blended whiskys are trying to be is single malts, this is absurd, they're two different whiskys entirely. Think of them as types of whisky, when a blended whisky works the individual components work almost synergistically to create a fantastic tasking whisky. A single malt is what it says it is, you're going for the exact taste and comparison of single malts shows the unevenness in the quality of single malts, again single malts can be and many are fantastic tasting whiskys. In no sense should a good blended whisky be an emulation of a single malt, it's physically impossible and logically if you actually think about it definitely not true.
What I'm saying is they take a small proportion of numerous whiskies and mix then to come up with one that tastes fabulous. However you'll find many a single malt that does that without the need to be mixed. And speaking from personal experience, I'm yet to try a blend that is anywhere near as good as a decent single malt

Your first sentence is obvious considering what I stated about the perception of single malts. Secondly since you haven't watched the videos I linked to, I refer you to them again.
I see you replied to my long winded effort, the concise version is this one
You are of course right I can't tell you what you taste is wrong, that would be absurd.
Johnnie Walker blue is better than all the single malts I've tried, it's not cheap though. Glenalba 22 and 25 (Lidl) are also far better than nearly all malts i've tried under £50.

Johnnie walker blue is nice but overrated in my opinion.
I grudge giving Diageo money unless its a must, will never forgive what they did to Johnnie Walker plant.

Green is probably the best based on quality for money as it's 1/3 of the price of blue.
It's a blend but made up of 100% malts. Worth a try if you haven't already.

Have now tried . Good dram , really good dram. A fair amount of wood (no bad thing) and hints of toasted nuts. Tested blind you would probably say well aged single malt not a NAS blend (but of course that depends on what went into the blend)
Well chuffed with this for £21.
