I think it was a Food Unwrapped, or a similar program, where they did a test on which fat makes the best / crispiest roasties. Vegetable oil (/rapeseed oil) actually came out as the winner.
Probably wouldn't last long on a cross-channel swim, though, if that's what everyone's buying these for... :man:

That does seem weird. Interesting fact, though! You'd have thought there'd be issues with it going rancid over time - perhaps it did, but I guess this must have been used for machinery in the times before synthetic oils, perhaps.
