Someone paid me £21 for a stunt herbert on eBay in the summer, I think people must have been collecting them in the hope they appreciate in value. Guess that's backfired

We did something like this to our daughter once, when she wanted an expensive doll house.

I apologised and said we couldn't afford the big gift this year.

She turned to me and said "It's ok dad, I know you work hard, and the important thing is that we're all here together, and we're all healthy and happy."

Which was brilliant, because it meant I could take the doll house back and get a PS4.

My parents did this to me and my brother.
younger brother wanted a tv, i didnt ask for anything since around the age of 10 i never really asked for anything on xmas.

xmas day comes, i wake up, parents are in my room, and moan at me later telling me to open my blinds in room, go up stairs and theres a tv, little brother crys because he didnt get one, so i been nice said he can have mine, and parents then showed little bro they had infact brought us one each, and because i was so nice to my little brother my mom gave me a WHOLE tub of celebrations. if that happened this year or something id probably laugh at my brother rather than offer it him

That's a douchebag move for a parent to play on their child at Christmas. As amusing as you think it may be, they certainly won't find it funny and it may make them cry. Plus they will always remember how you humiliated them on Christmas day, probably because you captured it on video and think it's hilarious to continuously play it back to them.
