Just to put this deal into context IPhone 7 plus 256GB £919 Hmmm.

For further comparison with some of what I think are the nearest rivals...
Dell XPS 13 i7 8gb RAM 256GB SSD is £1179 at Dell
HP Spectre x360 i7 8GB RAM 512GB SSD is £1079.95 (-£100 cash back) at John Lewis
iPad Pro 12.9 256GB is £909 at John Lewis
So considering the Xbox is included and the surface is a full computer in tablet form with iris graphics I think it's a good deal, hence why I posted it. Yes you need to get the keyboard separately but they do seem to reduced quite often, plus you could buy it with the money you'd get selling the Xbox if you didn't want that.

Crikey, given the price the surfaces usually go for that is incredible value.
It's the model down from mine and the only thing I dislike is the noisy fan and how hot it gets when I load up the CPU.

look into lowering cpu and gpu voltage with Intel xtu. plenty of posts/ guides online and it really helps things to get less toasty  mine peaks just over 50 with constant load from tf2 for example.

Cool item but still way over-priced for the specs. Cold for that reason.

Its not really - the pen is included at this price and the xbox is worth £250, this is £750 for the i7/8gb/256 version of the SP4. Thats similar to the i5 Dell XPS13 which is already an amazing laptop, but you get the much better screen of the SP4 and all the benefits that come with it.
Even without a keyboard, this is a great price. I still can't quite justify it as I really want a surface book rather than the SP4..but still, great deal

You forgot to add surface book i5/256/8gb dGPU for 1275 with xbox minecraft sell for 200 making book cost of about 1075... that's only about 150 more then i7 pro 4 inc keyboard. Diffrnace is way better keyboard on book and bigger screen, battery life (with keyborad) 40%+ better graphic performance against maybe 10% i7 over i5 that you will never see anyway... Honestly I was all the way to buy pro 4 but when visited JL store and compare both side by side pro 4 just looks like toy.. screen maybe on paper is just over inch difrance but it's really way better feel and look.. Ordered surface book instead!

Both are good deals. I've been weighing up the pros and cons of both too.
Surface Pro 4 i7:
+ significantly better battery life detached
+ Better igpu - HD 540 versus HD 520 in surface book. iGPU is used system wide, scrolling, OS animations etc. dGPU in Surface Book not used for everything
+ Better portability. Can stand on its own with kickstand, saving a lot of desk space if you just want to watch something. Saves space when simply storing it as can be kept upright all the time, much like a photo frame
+ Not so reliant on keyboard (for battery, GPU, USB port) Therefore, effectively half weight of surface book as you're much more likely to take just the tablet portion around with you
- More likely to be refreshed. Surface book already got update with performance base. Another refresh soon less likely
+ HD 540 is the closest iGPU you can get mobile form factor to a dedicated GPU performance in Has less pixels to drive than surface book which makes up for less power
- Toy like. Larger bezels. Less impressive aesthetically overall
+ Less niche than surface book as cheaper, therefore more support from Microsoft with updates
Surface book:
+ Keyboard: Soft, cushioned keystroke, quiet, comfortable
+ Trackpad: rubbish compared to any MacBook force touch trackpad. (as all Windows trackpad are). Probably better than type cover's though.
+ Future: Potentially upgradeable through purchase of performance enhanced bases, if Microsoft sells separately later
+ Better battery life with base.
- Rubbish battery without. Barely an hour normal use.
- Takes longer to charge (with lower wattage power adapter at least. Do the dGPU models ship with the faster charger?)
- Fulcrum hinge limited in how far you can tilt back in normal laptop mode. Kickstand very flexible
+ Significantly better screen. Not just larger, but also much brighter and higher contrast. Difference is apparent side by side. Smaller, neater bezels

Misa: Reasonable comparison but I think you should scratch the less niche point as so far the Book has got more and quicker updates than the Pro.

I've had surfacebook for about a month. Most of the above by misa is fair but I'd say two extra things
Tablet mode, I easily get a couple of hours out of it
You can't connect to a projector when you have removed the tablet from the base, as that connection sits in the base. The only way around that would be to buy the Microsoft wireless receiver as it doesn't seem to use widi
If you plan to use it a lot in "canvas" mode, there is a design flaw, or my unit is faulty, in that it overheats. This is a problem for me as I use it to teach. You have to regularly open it up to prevent the heating
The screen is beautiful and a lot more real estate than the pro as I compared them side by side. Because it's 3 by 2 it is much more than the headline 1 inch

For 60£ pounds more, i7 + Iris 540, Heat ! I'm just hoping the effect on battery isn't gonna be too much.

Think twice if you want to sell the Xbox One S on eBay. There's a crap load of listings for it and the price is getting lower and lower.

For the Type Cover I recommend going to CEX. Not sure what happened in the past but they're overstocked with new black Pro 4 covers and they're selling them for £55 each. I know because I bought one this week :-)
Turned up in sealed Microsoft box. Bargain compared to the £90+ they usually go for

Thanks for the tip. What do you change settings to? Do you just do it temporarily and then change back
It seems crazy to me that we pay for the performance but then gave to downclock the machine!
Although for me it would be perfect as when I'm teaching it's not doing anything intensive so won't be noticeable

I think offer ends today, ended up buying from microsoft store with quidco cash back, £33 for the xbox one and 8.8% for tablet, not quite as cheap but closest i could find, cash back tracked on both items at lower rate which was warned, will update to correct values once confirmed
Arrived today, seems nice machine but windows 10 updates taking forever
I bought a keyboard from cex for £55 did not come new in microsoft pacaking as listed above but was unmarked and working fine
