This seems like an OK price for a cherry switched keyboard. Its also reasonably understated - I dont like anything too garish on my desk.. :smiley:
Not heard of the Qpad before but seems to get good reviews..

QPad was very big with "professional" mousepads years ago, I spent a fortune on them for CS! :stuck_out_tongue:

I bought mine two years ago at about £90, solid board and good price, can work on both usb/ps2 interfaces though the back lighting actually needs power from the usb, bit of a design booboo there.
CS from q-pad is non existent but unfortunately if you need ps2 connection, think this is the only one out there

Decent price. Had a play with one of their mk-85s and was good for the money. Depends if you like black switches of course.

Was about to buy until I read you have to manually turn on the backlight every time you start your computer.

umm i don't but my usb ports provide perm power even when pc is fully off.

I wish a store near me would stock these to test. I want a mechanical keyboard but I'm not sure what colour switches I'd prefer without trying them all.

I had the same problem... eventually I've ended up buying a few different keyboards with different switches, with the intention of selling the ones I didn't get on with.
The MX blues are my favourite for typing, though they're very clicky and loud for use around others. MX reds are great all-rounders, fantastic for gaming, and I found them good for typing too (though some people apparently find it easy to make typos on them).
I've never tried the MX blacks like this keyboard has, though apparently they're similar to the reds in style, just requiring more force to press them. I imagine they're perfect for gaming, though I'm not sure if the extra force would be ideal for general typing.
The QPad MK series keyboards are solid, and well made. I had the MK85 a few years ago - almost identical to the MK80. I only sold it because I wanted MX Browns instead of the MX Reds on the '85.
MX Blacks are just like heavier MX Reds (requiring slightly more force) - not a bad switch at all.

I had a board at the office with MX Blacks, for years - they aren't too heavy to type on. The slightly stiffer springs are a pretty good choice if you want to learn to touch-type without bottoming out the keys too.

I don't see how to get the MX Blue version of this keyboard.
all true, if those are your reasons you are wasting your money but it does ignore other reasons why you might want to go mechanical.

I dont like mechanical. Still cant get my head round why these are the hottest keyboards to go for.
I got myself a new logitech k800 yesterday for 45 quid new, after I used vouchers and promo credit :smiley:

moron? bit extreme no? the article has some very good points, and yet i still spent a small fortune on this board for a few reasons
1. it's backlighting, very very bright more so than many other boards i looked at
2. it's size, i have big hands and many modern keyboards have little space between keys
3. being in a workshop occasionally things get dropped on my keyboard, i always had to replace membrane units this i just replace the broken keys
4.this has ps/2 interface, essential for my 16 port kvm which would cost a lot more to replace with a newer equivalent.
and yes i do get the problems mentioned in the article, they are just less important than the reasons for the purchase.
ps this has real nkrollover, handy in some games, a pain in others and actually reduces ability to respond to sudden changes in FPs games meaning yes i have to change to a cheaper model to game :disappointed:

This is the internet, through extensive research I have worked out there is no such thing as 'extreme' :wink:
On balance, after 29 years of using PC keyboards, I prefer mechanicals. There are good membrane keyboards and absolutely crap ones. There are great mechanicals and not so great.
As my working life is spent touching my keyboard and mouse, The 'feel' (and design, decent wrist rest, angle etc) is pretty important to me. On balance I have had better luck buying mechanicals when looking for products that fit this criteria...
