I'm sure the quality does vary, but basically this is fizz manufactured very cheaply by a bulk industrial process. otoh Cava is quite expensive to produce, secondary fementation in the bottle, bottle turned each day, sediment popped out when frozen, exactly the same as champagne is produced. To a certain extent, none of that matters really if it tastes great. But i do think there's an element of rip off due to the excellent marketting of prosecco in the uk as a premium product, when it really isn't.

Quality of prosecco does vary tho - perhaps buying in bulk from Groupon not the best idea?
Just saying.
BTW -
This is quite a nice drop for £6

I wonder how many people could taste the difference between Prosecco and cava - I'm not sure I could....

Does anybody actually like prosecco or do they just drink it because it's the 'in' thing?! Much prefer the Asti (good deal if you actually like the dry stuff!)

They'v certainly done a great pr job on Prosecco recently. It's bulk fizz, cheap as chips outside the uk. £1 per litre in the centre of Venice from the big stainless steel Vat, take your own bottle. That surprised me too. Cava is method champagnoise and even the Tesco stuff is quite good. Had a case of prosecco from a groupon deal i think, really disappointed. Voted hot because it's a good price relative to other prosecco prices, but my preference is cava, cheaper and better imv.
